VM, I believe that is a copy of the card the authorities confiscated. Here is a link to a news video that someone else posted that shows the card.

Never trust brothers you don't know!
by 5thGeneration inwell, i broke it to my super devout parents that after this i don't believe there is any reason why i should trust any 'brother' i don't know around my kids.. no way, no how!.
they had to admit this was pretty shocking and enlightening but they still ended up making excuses.
the society will soon have to drop the 'we are better than everyone else' argument for sure.

slip of the tongue of elder
by DannyBloem in.
this morning the speaker was late and they had to change the wachtower study with the public talk.. the young elder introducing this, was maybe a bit nervous of this happening (although it is certainly not the first time this year), and told that the public intercourse of the wachttower study would be held first, instead of the public discourse.

Once heard a speaker ask the audience to "turn with me please to Jack Daniel chapter...verse...". Never did hear the chapter and verse.

Shocking Announcement: Society feels Armaggedon coming this year?
by truthseeker ina rumor alert indeed, but it could be related to the distribution of kingdom news no.37, "false religions end is near.".
the following is posted from e-watchman's forum.. make of it what you will, but in light of all the rhetoric about "deliverance at hand" and "independent thinking", nothing would surprise me anymore.. http://e-jehovahs-witnesses.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1502&st=0 we posted about an announcement it was only local to our cong.
however we have found out that there is going to be an announcement sometime in september and it is supposed to be shocking.

who so desperately want it all to just END already! God almighty, let it end
JEHOVAH PLEASE JUST LET ARMAGEDDON COME!! they scream in their prayers.
So yes...the R&F cling to every little possibility that might mean their misery will end...even if it means dying
lol...your description of the psychological state of the r&f jw is one of the most accurate and dead-on I've read.

Do you think that JW's are integrating more into society these days?
by JH indo you think that jw's are integrating more into society these days or not making any progress?.
i went to a rock concert in a park on satuday night, and i saw 2 young jw's there.
their parents are jw's and the father is an elder and they go to every meeting and go out in the service regularly.. that concert was to raise money for ex-alcoholics and ex drug attics and people following therapy for this.. i've been going to that concert to raise money once a year, since over 10 years, and never saw 1 jw there in the past.. i was very surprised to see them there.

Its not so much Watchtower changing, but that their own members are changing.
I agree that this is the point. Any kind of reform, or whatever you want to call it, from the top will never come. If it is coming, its way to slow in coming for the R&F. Also, there is no one with the juice at the top to initiate that kind of change. They have created a system whereby they have landlocked themselves, and anyone who dares talk of change will find himself being shipped out with the latest batch of ex-bethelites..
On the other hand, many of the rank and file, while nodding there heads in agreement, are by there actions showing that they are much more willing to pick and choose what they are willing to swallow. They are going to college, they are not giving up the internet, some being deprived as kids themselves are enrolling there kids in ...hold your breath...the YMCA, brothers are not reaching out (and not feeling guilty about it), brothers are resigning and planting themselves in their seats (and not feeling bad about it), etc. etc. etc. The JW of today is still compliant, but still a totally different breed than what was common 20 or 30 yrs ago.
The JWs are changing, but in an unexpected way...from the bottom up.
(They will never change enough for me. The more I think about what they took the more I despise them.)

District Convention Resolution?
by TheListener ini've seen some threads here on the dcs this year but i don't remember reading about a resolution that may have been passed.
i saw this on another discussion board and have no idea if it's accurate or not.
it is posted that this occurred on sunday during the last talk.

not getting involved in chat rooms....Entertainment,
I would like to know the exact wording of the resolution, as I am sure that every line has been strategically worded. In particular, did they use the exact phrases chat rooms and entertainment? and how exactly were these words framed i.e. worldly chat rooms of just chat rooms in general?
It almost seems as if they are trying to renew their own version of a mission statement...sort of like a backhanded apology.

Met a Laid off Bethel Couple
by doinmypart ini met a married couple caught up in the recent bethel layoffs.
they are a fairly young couple in their mid to upper 30s, i didn't think to ask which department they worked in before being laid off.
the couple was driving cross country from new york to california, and stopping overnight at jw homes along the way.

Sounds a little disgruntled/shafted to me. I expect there will be more of the same in the future.

Do you think a JW childhood is abusive?
by Konrad West ini had a long discussion the other day with my new flatmate, who it turns out has studied with jws and thinks they're wonderful, about my view that being raised a jw is psychologically abusive.
being indoctrinated with the concept of jehovah killing people who don't do what he says and being scared of losing your friends and family if disobedient is, in my view, a very unhealthy thing for a child.
any thoughts?

dilaceratus ...there is little I could add as much of what you said says it all. Many of us lived a life so full of pretense on so many levels, some of it unconsciously, that dishonesty became natural. Even being dishonest with ourselves.
To believe that this playacting an interchangeable role is the best part of you is too sad to speak of.
Believing that its not necessary to playact, and breaking the cycle and inclination to playact through life is one of the biggest inward battles...even though we desperately want to live authentic lives.
Some who really tried to live the jw life, need a nudge to really believe that their authentic parts really are their best parts.

Double Standards?
by OpenFireGlass intalk about a dysfunctional family life.... did anyone else experience growing up in a dub family that had a double standard for siblings?.
my younger sister was allowed too: have new kids on the block posters on her wall, as well as gotten taken to a nkotb concert... have & play a keyboard.
pick her own music, & have a boom box in her room.

I was also the firstborn...with everything that came with it. I was the example, the one with all the expectations, the one cursed with the burden of carrying the family flag. So I do understand and I definitely think there is something to the idea of birth-order. There are definitely double standards, but that's not necessarily just a jw thing.
