ok. so you say you have to accept [the Bible] as authority because the Bible says so. would you accept me as authority, just because i say you have to?
People like me think they are false. But they are written in a "God wrote this" style. aka - a religious holy book!
the bible is written in the same style. where's the difference?

... you have to accept it as authority.
says who?
it's what they think, not what God thinks.
says who?
you have wisdom writings in all kinds of religions like Buddhism. But this is just someone's opinion.
says who?
the Bible was written for instructions from God.
says who?
The Koran and the Book of Mormon are of this kind of book too, but I don't believe in these holy books, obviously.
what's so obvious about that? -

so you think a "non-religious" point of view is problematic? as for your illustration: i always learned the bible would have been written for everyone... that's also the reason why it was translated.
the SAB is not stupid at all. and it's got nothing to do with moral opinions. it just shows how flawed "god's word" is. you wouldn't disagree on that, would you? -

At what hour was Jesus Crucified?
by gumby inmark 15:25 ......and it was the third hour, and they crucified him.
john 19:13-14 when pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the pavement, but in the hebrew, gabbatha.
and it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the jews, behold your king!

Two types of elder?????
by chuckyy inits my experience after actually being an elder for a number of years that there are in fact...two types of elder.. type 1....genuine, actually cares about the people in the congregation and wasn't actually bothered too much if he became an elder or not.. type 2....very legalistic, cares more about organizational laws rather than people and lacks compassion and empathy.
this type is more of a spiritual policeman.
he wanted desperately to be an elder and now that he is, he loves the sense of power and prestige.. this has been my experience and if there are more type 2 elders on a body, the results can be disastrous.. what has been your experience???

i found that some of the born and bred type are even worse than type2. especially when they come from a "split household"(TM) background.
and they need some type1 elders to play the good cop/bad cop game. -

thanks narkissos and euripides. especially the reference to jesus as the "firstborn" made me think of a parallel.
the comparision of the gospels with 4. maccabees is interesting. i'm not sure if i'm confusing later christian theologies or even the watchtower with pauline theology, but what about the ransom doctrine? at least some versions of this dogma, including the WT one, suggest that jesus was sacrificed to god (other versions suggest, that the ransom was payed to satan).
so god required a human sacrifice. that would fit into the old baal rites, doesn't it? -

the whole demon stuff always was pretty scary. everyone always had shocking stories from "reliable" sources... yeah, those things REALLY happened ;-)
one story was about a brother who wanted to go up a stairway but some invisible power didn't let him move, until he said the "J" word of course. after hearing that story i sometimes was afraid of being in a stairway alone... -

@narkissos/leolaia/euriphides... and whoever else researches this kind of things
do the jesus stories/pauline theology directly mirror any of these human sacrifice accounts?
and do you have any book recommendation about canaanite religion compared to OT texts?
