"No Apologies is no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses"
by No Apologies insometimes i just don't know when to keep my big mouth shut.
today i think finally said enough to get da'd.. for those of you just tuning in, a recap: about 2-3 years i came to realize everything i had been taught as a jw was a load of steaming turds.
since then i have managed to fade away more or less, without incident.

do you have any family/friends still in the borg?
i also had this question "do you still consider yourself a JW", but the elder asked me without a second witness. i told him i wont answer that question. later he asked if he could stop by with a second elder, i told him i don't see any reason for that and i'll have different answers ready, so it won't be any useful for them either... -

JW's are they really a cult?
by Evanescence inmany people would say they are a cult, what are your reasons for thinking they are a cult?.
a created a thread a while ago on an idea of what a cult is http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/96309/1.ashx.
do you think it is the jehovah's witnesses as a whole a cult?

The Dangers and Morality of Science
by Big Dog inwith all the discussion here about the dangers of religion, its morality issues, and so on i thought it would be interesting to have a discussion (especially given the large population of science oriented folks on this board) where we discuss the same issues with respect to science.
now this is not meant to be some i want to go back to the dark ages thread, but more so that recognition that there are moral, ethical, and hell survival issues with science that need to be addressed.. michael crichton as most know is both a famous author and an extremely bright individual who attended harvard medical school, in his novel jurrassic park he raised some issues with science and its dangers: .
"jurassic park was intended to warn the general public concerning the inherent dangers of biotechnology first of all, but also science in general.

You are saying no knowledge is inherently "good" or "bad", it just is knowledge, the problem is in the application and method. I would go with that to a point, except, I'm trying to see how I can be neutral about say, atomic weapons and the knowledge to build them, I'm trying to see nukes as a neutral thing and I'm having a hard time with it.
nukes are already an application, not scientific knowledge. the knowledge is how to split atoms. this knowlege is neutral. nukes are "bad" (for me). maybe that's just because i live in a country without nuclear weapons (and even enegery). nukes seem to be "good" for the us though, as they got lots. -

creationism in the us of a
by googlemagoogle injust read in the newspaper that some 54% of americans favor creationism and diss darwin.
.
i know, never trust a stat you haven't faked yourself, but... is creationism (especially yec) really that wide spread in the us?

"ID-ots" looks awfully close to the word "idiots."
LOL!
well, i've thought about it, and if it's not 99% xians who want ID in school, then i'm all for teaching it, but in all it's variety.
for example:
in the beginning the big manitu created the human race. he prepared the paste, put it in the oven and waited. but he waited too long, and the humans came out all black. he prepared another paste, put it in the oven and said: "i'll not wait too long this time", but he opened the oven too soon, so the humans came out all white. finally he prepared another paste, put it in the oven, and this time he was waiting not too long and not too short, just right. the humans came out in a beautiful shade of brown. this is where the different colors come from.
(if anyone can read racism there, it's not my invention, ant less racist than the bible actually)
ok, tell those stories to the children. if you want to sell this as "science"? i don't know... -

but what exactly would a teacher tell in school? i mean... ID is about "poof, everything's here", or is there more connected to it?
