What about Christian Rock and Roll? Is that bad too?
omg, that's the worst.
and i'm sure satan plays his licks a hell of a lot better than god. god only plays harp. -

GRACE (undeserved kindness)
by TheListener inthis has been bothering me for some time now and i'm hoping that some here will shed some light on the subject.. paul goes to great lengths to tell us that we can't earn god's grace (undeserved kindness).. the wts also says that.. but, the bible does give us some do's and don'ts.
the bible does tell us about individuals who would be bad association.
it also tells us about some sins that would cause the sinner to be ineligible for the new kingdom.. so do we in fact have to earn the undeserved kindness?

maybe most moved on and don't believe in any ransom sacrifice anymore, thus are considered bad a$$ociation by paul?
jesus: "you are my friends when you do what i tell you to do". interesting kind of friendship. lol.
there are too many theological concepts of salvation, all based on the bible... some say, faith alone, not works. some say works manifest faith. some say all will be saved. some say all will be saved but some will be saved after some cleansing. some say some will be saved this way some another.
i don't know if it's worth bothering. not for me. anymore. -

How did they dare?
by Narkissos in.
this is a very simple question which came to my mind shortly after i broke free from the jw/fundamentalistic mindset.. assuming (1) that "god" didn't do and say everything that the bible texts record him doing and saying, and (2) that the writers were not cynical, machiavelical atheists forging a "god" for the sole purpose of mind control, but really believed in their "god", the question is: how did they dare make their "god" speak and act?.
this question, of course, is pointless to you if you believe (1) that "god" did do and say everything that the bible texts record him doing and saying, or (2) that the writers were cynical, machiavelical atheists forging a "god" for the sole purpose of mind control.. but if you are somewhere in between, as many of us are (i think), this is a fascinating question which can help us get a better idea of the true nature of faith, between passive "fear of god" and the audacity of literary creation.. any taker?

hi tophat,
i didn't respond to your last post in a while, because i wasn't sure what position you take in your comment. but i think you agree with excluding this text from the bible.
this is a common strategy of bible-christians, searching for strange sounding parts and making them sound "cookoo".
but consider the following two things: it only sounds strange, BECAUSE it wasn't included in most canons. if it were, our culture would have become used to it and it wouldn't sound strange to us at all.
second, there are lots of strange sounding stories and sayings in the canonized books. like donkeys and serpents that talk, jesus offering his flesh and blood, paul destroying his body, not to mention revelation.
that said, i didn't feel comfortable that some long gone bishops selected the books i would have to accept and they didn't even agree about them.
my experience is, that if some bible-christian finds a strange sounding canonized text, they say it's "metaphors" or "symbolic language". but they usually don't apply the same standard to non-canonized or other-canonized texts.
i just can give you the advice to really look into who really wrote the different books included and excluded from the bible, who compiled the different canons, when all that happened and why it happened (and please don't use one of those pseudo-scientific bible-lexica, you might as well use the insight books). it's really really interesting. -

Do you vote?
by MsMcDucket ini was just wondering if anyone here votes in the elections?
considering how badly that some of us did on that test, i wonder if anyone is even concerned with politics?
do you care who your congressman is for your state?

i don't until someone worth a vote comes around. i rather don't vote than vote for a clown.

JESUS B-day
by I-CH-TH-U-S indec 25?.
oct 1?.
i have even heard some recent speculation on jesus possibly being born in march which is interesting.. october seems reasonable with the rational of "shepherds watched their flocks by night" and in the december months it would be too cold for them to be out?
