Do you and your significant other share religious beliefs?

sometimes, i think my husband is much more church oriented than i am.

i still get upset when i attend church, but lately he has been putting the push on me for us to go back to his church where he grew up in.

he would like to start taking our daughter so she has a somewhat structured religious belief.

one of the things jws pride themselves in as that they know their bible (new world translation).

someone once asked me about why jws don't celebrate birthday... i tried to respond, but the arguments were so senseless, that i couldn't respond. she told me, if it's that hard to answer, you don't have to answer. that got me thinking...

Should I teach my kids about Santa Claus? (Lie vs. Harmless Fantasy)

my wife and i got on a discussion about something i never would've guessed we'd need to.

she wants to teach our new baby about santa claus, easter bunny, & tooth fairy, but i don't.

of course, as witnesses we never would have taught that, and i have to acknowledge that i may only be reasoning using that old set of values.. i don't want to look into my kid's eyes and tell her something that i know for a fact isn't true.

children simply want to learn. about everything. if people would teach their children real, intelligent things, instead of teaching them bout santa, god and paradise, this world would probably be a much better place...

well... i'm a skeptic and my better half is a hardcore beliefer... not the hyperactive JW, but really believing it all, you know. no chance to talk about anything faith related.

it's a doctrinal question.

of course the gospel of john may have been written by someone who made this conversation up.

but let's assume it really did take place between pilate and jesus christ.. john 1837"you are a king, then!

i would have probably asked "which truth?" and wouldn't have left so quickly... but then, with the rioting crowd outside and a jesus who according do some gospels didn't talk to pilatus at all, "quid est veritas" sounds like a valid reply...

What age group is more prone to become JW's?

when i attended meetings years ago, the only new faces i saw were brothers and sisters who moved to our congregation from another congregation, or children growing up.

i rarely saw new people who came because someone knocked on their door.. do you think that there is an age group more prone to become jw's?

i don't think it depends on age. it's more about the social environment.

i don't expect that i'll write it perfectly as it needs to be articulated in different ways for different people...but i will do my best.

and worst of all, i am not expecting any kind of response that will satisfy me.

no offense/offence intended, really. if there's really that religious part in our brain it might as well be interpreted as a "prove of creationism". i just wanted to show that some scientists are following the tracks of spirituallity. and i simply find it interesting that a specific form of epilepsy makes people more religious than they would normally be.

i've read about a place in our brain, where the "spirituality" is located... i only read german articles about it, so you probably have to search yourself, here are two links in english:

there is the opinion that epileptic people would be more religious, because this specific part of the brain would be more active then... thus the prophets, the apostle paul and the like where probably all insane in the brain.

An allegory: The Twelve Brothers

when i first was beginning to see the light, i wrote this allegory as a spin on the old "what if you found a house in the middle of a desert" illustration witnesses use all the time.

i wrote it to explain in non-threatening terms to my witness friends the way i was seeing the universe.

i hope when our annointed LT goes to heaven and rules along with jesus and the governing body over us ignorant atheists/agnostics/skeptics, he wont be too rigorous with us... LT, remember us when thou comest into thy kingdom.
