  The Governing Body, FDS, "that slave". . . claims AN INSIDE INTIMACY with Almighty God for ADDITIONAL (extra-Biblical) refinements of teaching!

  For the JW's, the Bible is only a warm-up.

  In the same manner as the Mormon Church uses their APOSTLES and Pearl of Great Price/ Doctrines and Covenants to FINE-TUNE daily life,

  the Governing Body, FDS, "that slave" have taken the steering wheel on behalf of Christians everywhere.

  THE ORGANIZATION is the MEDIATOR between Jehovah and the OTHER SHEEP--not Jesus Christ.

  This is the justification for being Baptized into ORGANIZATION.

  Greek Mythology influence on New Testament

  a few days ago, i was in a book store, and i picked up a book providing a brief overview of classical mythology.

  as i examined the opening pages, i read about tartaurus (place of punishment) and hades (god of the underworld).. it seems so odd that tartarus and hades would be mentioned in the new testament, and yet they were part of greek mythology which predated the new testament.

  why would bible writers have used such terms?

  I have a lot of reading, researching, and thinking to do. I want to make a definite decision as to whether to believe the Bible. Again, thanks to all ( fulltimestudent , _Morpheus , Terry , Phizzy ). And Snare , it does seem that I'm at the beginning of the end of my belief in the Bible. Right now, that's depressing to me. I loved having a hope for the future, but now that hope is fading fast.

  Every intellectually honest investigator of Christianity has to go through the same stages of grief.

  My big shock was in discovering there were NO ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPTS in the whole wide world!

  Watchtower materials I had used for research had NOT prepared me for that.

  .. consider the difference between taking a poll about an upcoming election and the actual vote itself on the day of the election.. the information gathered about what the vote will be is provisional.

  the vote on the day of the election is actual and official.. it is the one that counts.. now, carefully ask yourself what the specific difference--if any--there is between the poll information and the election result as an identical knowledge of.

  1. The historical decline from independent congregations to a bloated Organization with hundreds of silly rules. Can you say: Catholic Church?

  2. Failure to present even a moderately well-argued explanation for how LIGHT is transmitted so poorly by Jehovah to the Org ending in the need to CHANGE teachings into polar opposite explanations.

  3. The silence on Dinosaurs.

  4. The hubris in not making a specific apology for all past errors in doctrine resulting in stumbling and DF-ing many fine people.

  5. The ambivalence about jury-rigging the NWT by inserting words in [brackets] on again and off again. (And on).

  6. The failure to abandon the Blood policy nonsense and take their blows once and for all.

  7. The atrophy of teaching skills at the congregation level as evidenced by my few encounters with JW's in the last ten years.

  What were the calculations used to arrive at the 1874 date of Christ's return?

  we all know the calculations used by the wt to arrive at 1914. fall of babylon in 607 (false year), gentile times, no zero year, ta-da, 1914.. what did they use before that?

  i know it wasn't russell who came up with it - he just adopted it.

  i'm just curious what they had to explain away when they made the transition.. .

  Think of all the confident words lavished on dates in Watchtower history!

  The enthusiasm for and eagerness to embrace false proof is astounding.

  It occurs again and again and again with the insanity of NEVER LEARNING THE LESSON of caution and plausible deniability.

  Going in there is absolute certainty. Coming out there is waffling and blame-shifting.

  Jehovah is guiding them and suddenly it was all merely a 'suggestion' others read too much into.

  What a tired dance!

  Stupidity OR cunning?

  Or, maybe just bad habits and amateur nitwittery.

  1. Matt 24: 44, 45: a parable or prophecy?

  2. Why would such a significant revealing of this prophecy come through A WOMAN?

  3. Why wasn't Maria Ackley "that servant?"

  4. If such a revelation came through a female, why can't women be on today's Governing Body?

  A Statement from Morton Edgar Regarding Rutherford's "Organization."

  Morton Edgar, a prominent writer amongst the Bible Students even in the days of Russell, wrote the following either in the latter 1920s or early 1930s, in response to Rutherford's new "organization" doctrine. Edgar's statement reflects the sentiments of many Bible Students living at that time, as they were appalled at what Rutherford was doing with the Watch Tower Society that had been formed for different purposes.
  
  

  The word “organisation” does not occur in the Bible, and its use is apt to mislead. The Scriptural word is “kingdom”; and our Lord distinctly said that “the kingdom of God cometh not with observation”—with outward show— Luke 17:20 . Therefore there is no “visible organisation of God on earth,” as is claimed by some to their undoing.
  
  How often Brother Russell warned us against this very thing, and how foolish we shall be if we do not heed his warning. We shall indeed be foolish if we claim that “only through our system or organisation will the heavenly Father accept praise and service”; for this would make it appear necessary for every spirit-begotten child of God to “bow the knee” to the few who have constituted themselves heads of the organisation. The apostle shows that it is only the carnal, fleshly mind that is deceived by such unscriptural claims— 1 Cor. 3:1-6 , 18-23 ....
  
  I for one entirely repudiate this talk of “God’s visible organization on earth” during this Gospel Age. It is dangerous talk, and gives rise to all kinds of persecutions and ungodly claims, as anyone who has consecrated reasoning powers can see.... If there was one thing that our dear Brother Russell warned us against, more strongly than any other, it was this very thing. Brother Russell never made any such claim for the “Society” when he was here in the flesh and amongst us, for he knew better. But Judge Rutherford, apparently, does not know enough to keep himself clear of it. In the very first chapter of the first volume of “Studies,” Brother Russell speaks of this “false idea that the nominal church, in its present condition, is the sole agency” for the recovery of the world from sin. -- Published in "Gleanings From Glasgow"

  23 years later: 1950 issue of The Watchtower assigned to the "mother organization"—in reference to the Watch Tower Society—the task of feeding Christians "meat in due season."

  1951 the magazine defined the "faithful and discreet slave" as a class of people whose teachings were imparted through a theocratic organization.

  Until 1971/1972, the person who was the PRESIDENT of the Watchtower Corporation was the de facto leader of the governing body.

  However, a kind of coup d'etat suddenly occurred. On the eve of a very important END DATE of 1975--leadership was wrested out of the hands of just one man and given to an elite rotating group of leaders instead.

  Why? The one leader--Nathan Knorr--had allowed a crazy prediction to go viral as an inevitable public embarrassment. 1975 might well

  destroy the entire Organization! Attorneys, advisors, company men alike scrambled to prepare for the damage.

  The Governing Body voted in December 1975 to establish six operating committees to oversee the various administrative requirement of the organization's worldwide activities that formerly had been under the direction of the president; furthermore, each branch overseer was to be replaced by a branch committee of at least three members.

  The change, which took effect on January 1, 1976, was described in the Watch Tower Society's 1993 history book, Jehovah's Witnesses—Proclaimers of God's Kingdom , as "one of the most significant organizational readjustments in the modern-day history of Jehovah's Witnesses." (

  By 1980, a frightening PURGE began to strike fear into the heart of the headquarters as all non-Loyalists were hounded by an Inquisition and banished from the new arrangement.

  By the year 2000 Governing Body was described as the representative and "spokesman" for God's "faithful and discreet slave class".
