New member, question thats been asked many times, but how do you feel ?
by Greyeyes ini came across this site, and while still my upbringing says i should stay away from such site, i had to join.
a bit of a background about me.
i'm 31, my parents became witnesses when i was born so they could give me the best upbringing they felt possible.

One thing that I learned from my experience with getting the boot, was that no one wants to shun you. All that have stopped talking to me have hated to do so, and all do care for me.
they still have respect for those that are JW's.
this is exactly why it is hard for me to respect many active JWs. i was never disfellowshipped, i disassociated myself when i stopped believing that they have the true religion and was shunned by EVERYONE (actually, truth be told, i was shunned long before i technically DAd myself. if they shunned me when they weren't required to, it's hard for me to believe they didn't WANT to.) but in any case, i do believe that my family would rather not shun me if given the option. the fact that my family WANTS to talk to me (at least in principle) but won't because a group of men they haven't met before tell them they can't, is exactly why i can't respect their actions. it would be different if deep down, on a fundamental level they hated me and my actions. but i know that they don't.
as far as the UN stuff, what got to me was how the JWs were always going on and on about how they were DIFFERENT than any other religion in that they had no ties to government. if the argument is that the JWs are no different than any other religion in this regard and the UN thing is no big deal, then they are simply no different than any other religion and the JWs are no big deal. simple as that.
just wanted to throw that in. for the record, i feel that the witnesses are as deluded as any other religion and in that respect i don't denegrate them MORESO than any other religion.

Answers she says she has searched for her entire life, from all major religions. Just from what she's seen, heard, and read, she looked at me the other night and said, "If this isnt as close to the truth as possible, then there is no truth."
maybe the best place to start a search for god is not with organized religion but with the book of fables that they have been built upon.

Complaining for the rest of your life about race and what happened in the past will never allow you to grow as a person and will only harbor resentment, that's not to discount the evils of slavery and treatment of blacks, but that they can rise above it all and they have shown that. There will always be poor and better off, but it should have nothing to do with color. The more we dwell on a persons skin color the longer it will be an issue in years to come. We should see people for who they are or their actions not the color of their skin. DL76
i agree and i'm sorry if i misinterpreted your thoughts. it appeared to me in your initial post that you were referring to people that are CURRENTLY being discriminated against, not those whose ancestors were. if that was not what you meant, then again, i apologize.
to me, if someone doesn't get a job (or whatever) because of the color of their skin, i would expect them to boohoo straight to the courts to hold the bigot accountable. but on the other hand, if someone dwells on the misfortune of their ancestors to the point that their own life is damaged, that's a different story.

I wonder about cat leash laws in the state of Wisconsin. If people kept their pets confined and not roaming loose there would be no problem with someone's pet being killed.
my mom used to try to put our cat on a leash and take him for walks. i swear, that cat would try to kill itself when that leash went on. he would flail around and throw himself into things. i didn't even know it was possible for an animal to move like that. he looked like a dying fish. maybe if everyone put leashes on their cats, the population would kind of naturally thin itself out.

I personally dislike to hear people of whatever race boohooing over being discriminated aginst.
...umm...
and do you think that rape victims should quit their bitchin and moanin? just because you don't LIKE to hear it doesn't mean anything. if people are upset about being discriminated against (god forbid...) then it's completely normal for them to air the complaint. you can't tell people to smile and be "classy" about being discriminated against.
so I have chosen a path of education, decency and class and I believe that's all you need to better your situation
i hear what you're saying and for the most part i agree with your post, but just because you have found a successful way to break free of discrimination doesn't mean that others should not be allowed to voice their frustration ("boohoo") with this unfortunate facet of ignorance. -

i've never been one to back away from a fight. if the situation demands it. but i don't think i'd go and search one out just to have some fun, but that might be because i've fought before.
i have a feeling that lots of these fight clubs that i hear about are more about being a part of the culture espoused by the movie rather than actually seeing what it feels like to fight. Fight Club (the movie) is such a cult hit with young guys and a lot of people try to emulate that spirit. it's ironic though, because the whole point of that movie was rejecting pop culture and finding yourself. not jumping on the band wagon with a bunch of followers. in this case, followers of a movie.
