but you still didn't touch the main portion of my question. How many constitute a congregation? and please show where this forming of congregations was 'directed by jesus'.

if 2 or 3 is acceptable (as apparantly it was in the 1st century) then why is attendance at a formal kingdom hall mandatory?
Dont you want to be apart of something that Jesus directed and is the Head of by means of the Holy Spirit?
where did jesus command his followers to form congregations? they DID form them, but was this required by jesus?

NOT FORSAKING the gathering of ourselves as SOME have the CUSTOM to do............................ Belonging to the Christian Congregation is an important part in our relationship with God and Jesus. After all Jesus is HEAD of the Congregation is he not? He is the Shepard of the flock is he not? If so, if your not in his PEN how can you be sheparded? Just a thought
how many people constitute a "Christian Congregation"? the 1st century congregations met in peoples homes and sometimes consisted of only a handful of people. plus, i remember something about Jesus saying that 'where 2 of you are gathered in my name...'

my wife is getting baptized on the 19th.. i wrote her a letter today.
basically i asked her why she isn't coming to me to find out my concerns.
i am the person who has the most invested in her.
I asked her what happens if the children join and then leave. Are you going to shun them? She said that it doesn't work like that. She wouldn't have to not talk to them. She said that isn't how disfellowshipping works. Everything I have heard says that is EXACTLY how it works.
my parents haven't spoken to me in over 3 years despite continued attempts by me. and i wasn't even disfellowshipped. i found out my little brother was getting married 2 weeks into the honeymoon. you're right, that is EXACTLY how it works. i'd be interested to see the article she read that says otherwise.

i have NO problem with your beliefs as long as you have no problem with mine.
recently, at the prompting of another poster, i began to look into the similarities between jesus and other man-gods of ancient cultures.
i was shocked!
not so much by the minute details shared between the gospels and the stories of krishna, osiris, zoroaster, mithras, dionysus and others, but mainly because i had never heard of this before.. things like: being born of a virgin, espousing the redeeming power of baptism, turning water into wine at a wedding, having an entourage of 12 close followers, those 12 sharing a final meal with the god, instructing his followers to eat of his body and blood to benefit from his sacrifice (the blood usually symbolized by juice or wine), sacrificing his life by crucifixion on behalf of mankind, being dead for 3 days and then resurrected, he will return at some point to cleanse the world, and much more.. now, i know this is probably nothing new to most of you, but i was amazed.
For many diaspora Jews in contact with the Osiris, Mithra or Attis myths, such myths certainly struck a familiar chord: this was not really "foreign".
on the flip side, somewhere i read the comment that this similarity was used as a selling point for early christianity; "Come worship our God...He's so much like yours'." i always thought that was kind of funny.
