“We need to examine, not only what we personally believe, but also what is taught by any religious organization with which we may be associated. Are its teachings in full harmony with God's Word, or are they based on the traditions of men? If we are lovers of the truth, there is nothing to fear from such an examination.” [The Truth That Leads to Eternal Life, 1968, page 13]

A fair and reasonable question for Jehovah's Witnesses
by Gregor inyour organization has always been intently focused on "witnessing" and this includes going right up to strangers homes, knocking on their door attempting to engage them in a discussion of their beliefs.
you come prepared to point out the error of whatever faith they hold.
doctrines such as immortality of the soul, the trinity and eternal torment in hell you declare as false teachings and can back up your assertions with scriptures and skilled argument.

I know what you mean about long posts, Nic. I write my share too. What I've found is that long posts that present an interesting story, however, often do get read by a fair number. And even though perhaps not as many as other, shorter posts, the emotional response from those who've committed the time to reading them can be quite strong.
I wholeheartedly agree with your comments on hierarchy. I get a kick at how much effort is spent by the organization to demonstrate that no human really has any authority or prestige. But they so obviously do. I really did try to hold this view while in, but would always hear comments like...
"Did you hear where Brother Bethelite was assigned?! He's working directly with the Governing Body!!!" (Spoken with big eyes and an excited face.)
"Yeah, he's a real heavy hitter in the organization."
"I tell my girlfriends that unless he's an elder, you shouldn't even date him. You just never know--even about Ministerial Servants. Gotta look for elders."

Vasectomy Horror Stories- Have Any? Or Normal Vasectomy Stories ?
by flipper inwell, i know you all pretty well now after 9 months of being on board , so i feel o.k.
to approach this subject.
this subject is a pretty touchy one for most of us men, especially those of us that have been put under the " knife" , and got to the point where we did not want any more children.

What do ya know? Just had mine this past September 1st. Here's my experience...
The initial shot was a little painful. As the doctor said, "It's gonna feel like a little kick in the nuts." After that there were some unpleasant sensations, but nothing major. I think it only took about 15 minutes or so.
My daughter drove me home. I too walked around with frozen peas in my underwear off and on for about a week. I will tell you this: my healing took a looong time. I have no idea why. Yes, it did get better and better, but very, very slowly. I was still in a fair amount of pain for two months afterward. (Sitting down remained a slow process during this time.) The truth is, now, more than three months after, while I'm fine...I do still feel a very slight bit of soreness. Nothing that causes me any problems, but it's definitely something I feel.
I've read so many internet experiences (as well as the ones here) that mention "some soreness for two or three weeks afterward." That would have been lovely, but mine took much, much longer.

Randy Watters, thank you!
by onacruse inthis may seem like a shameless plug for www.freeminds.org.
but it's not.. randy has been a source of significant information for me (and countless others) over the last decade(s), and very recently sent me (at his expense) some additional information about the wts.. now, one thing i must say is that randy and i do not share the same ideologies about religious perspectives.
but, ya know what?

Confession
Doggone it; I can't help but pile on myself... I realized the WTS wasn't what I'd always believed on September 15, 2004. But in July and August of that year, I was really reading his site. While I didn't accept all of his perspectives, I did appreciate the history and discussion. AND...the recounting of his early realization that the WTS had become a bunch of "Judaizers." (Read "legalistic" and "authoritarian" entity.) Somehow it struck me how absolutely true that was. I called him up, he answered, and I just sputtered...
"Hi, Randy. Um... I just wanted to thank you. Just thank you... y'know. That's all I can say right now...just thank you..."
His reply? "Okay..." (click)
LOL! I can only imagine how many calls such as that he receives. Later I actually went to see him at his Manhattan Beach home, and spend an hour and a half or so, talking with him. He was the first "apostate" I ever met, and it was extremely helpful for me.
So, at the risk of repeating my former clumsy call to you, Randy. Um...thank you. Just...thank you. I mean...thank you!

Anyone out there use Airborne?
by lovelylil ini just picked some up today.
i work in health care so i am around lots of sick people.
right now is the worst time of year with flu season and all.
-
Confession
Since I travel about 48 weeks per year, living out of planes and hotels, I've found Airborne helpful. I also use Emergen-C. Sometimes I'll even make an Airborne/Emergen-C super-mega-double-whammy cocktail. I think they definitely help. Actually I've been using the Walmart knock-off of Airborne--and think it works just as well. (Less expensive!)
Like Hortensia, I also believe in Zicam, because I recently used it when I got a cold. (I hadn't been taking my Airborne.) The Zicam unquestionably shortened the duration of my symptoms.

Gentlemen, Ladies and Muslims!!!!
by Gill ina very good friend of mine is in charge of plant maintenance at a local factory.
there are 300 people working in this factory and two of them are muslims.
the muslims have requested that they require special toilets just for themselves.
-
Confession
This is surprising (to say the least.) I'm trying to understand it. Is it that they aren't supposed to sit down at all--even while defecating? Or is it a strict "No Sitting Whilst Defecating" rule?
And, if they're to stand, why not straddle the toilet while standing? Why in thunderation do they actually stand on the seat? Is there a minimum drop height requirement?

Yep, I Gave A Public Talk
by mavie incan we see the fulfillment of this today?
these are just a few of the prophecies recorded in the bible which have seen their fulfillment.
another evidence of divine authorship can be found in the practical guidance the bible gives.

Mavie, I had that very outline--and gave the same talk too! Bizarre reading through those opening portions. I could finish the sentences even before reading them.
