I Do Not Think Everyone That is a JW Wastes Their Life
by Magwitch inmy 97 year old grandmother died last week.
she was actually born and raised a jw.
her mother (my great grandmother) was a russelite.

Mag, my sympathies on your loss. I've had similar thoughts about my mom and my aunt, both of whom spent seemingly happy lives as JWs. They didn't perceive it as a waste, even if others did.
I think there is some validity to the argument regarding personal responsibility for having brought people into the religion. I feel some guilt myself for having done that. But we all unintentionally do things that could potentially harm others, so that's a whole other argument.
The thought I do have regarding people like my aunt, for example, is that she sacrificed many things for her future hope, such as having children. My mom sacrificed things on behalf of her children (i.e. our education). That makes me sad, because they gave up those things for nothing.
But I think there is something admirable about experiencing life to the fullest regardless of your belief system and being able to die satisfied with how you have lived your life. Your gran, my aunt, my mom - they all died believing they were fulfilled and had been faithful. That's a good thing, IMO.

Thanks for starting this thread, Jam. I actually learned something I did not know before, which surprises me because I always did a lot of reading and research when I was a dub. Numbers 13:33 is quite an eye-opener. If descendents of the Nephilim were still on earth after the flood, where did their lineage come from? Anak/Enak was not a descendant of Noah, was he? Does that not prove either that the flood is a myth or that it was localized? Or as KS says, the angels continued to procreate with humans after the flood, which negates the point of the flood.
I'm still only halfway through the Atheist book of bible stories, but clearly that should be an addition if it isn't already there!

AnnOMaly - I'm a bit confused by your rhythms. "Strewn o'er all the nations" fit perfectly into the musical syntax. You are adding an extra syllable and extra note. That's the whole reason the Society always used apostrophes. They could eliminate words, i.e. "o'er"

A New Language
by mamochan13 ini remember years ago cos telling the congregation how important it was to know the "new language" because we would be identified by it and it could save us when the end came.
they gave examples like "rendezvous for service" which was popular at the time.
lots of others.

Here's my first. I"m not that good at this and may be missing some things, so feel free to add:
1. Borg. Fictional droids against whom resistance is thought to be futile, since they can implant themselves into unsuspecting brains. Resistance, however, is possible through scientific advancements and technology
2. Borg. A term for a high control group that uses mind control methods to keep members in subjugation.
3. Borg. The governing Body of JWs

doesnt everyone have one of those little male/female symbols they can attach? Although I admit I debated identifying myself as male initially - borg mentality as a way to create credibility

Getting Back In (yes, its for family) What do I Say on 3rd Try?
by Meadow36 inin my last meeting to be re-instated they said for next time figure out which person from the bible i'm most like.
and be ready to tell them what i pray about and how i feel about what i did to jehovah.
being honest , speaking from the heart about jesus forgiving peter and having a hard time answering the prayer question didn't work getting hysterical and nervous-breakdownish at the end didn't help, nor did running out of the hall after saying i could never do any better.

Quendi - five years while three men tried to tell you you could be a person different from who you were born to be. Wow. Thank you for sharing - it helps reinforce the blindness under which judicial committees operate.
Fear of shunning is definately at the heart for many who have doubts, even if they don't realize it on a conscious level. I look at members of my family - they are so intertwined with the religion - friends, work, support systems. If they were to leave they would be completely bereft. They'd have me, I guess, but they have learned to see me as an evil apostate. So destructive.
I do hope Meadow can draw strength from knowing that so many of us share her pain and have successfully escaped the cult.

Actually Audacity is really easy to use. It's a nifty little program. You could dub yourself singing with it, too.

I'm also one of those who find myself puzzled when exJWs strongly embrace another religion. There does seem to be a common philosophy across all cultures that spirituality is necessary for true fulfilment and happiness in life, and many people confuse spirituality with religion. Perhaps that is one of the reasons.
Personally I navigated the spiritual void for many years, but going to university helped me resolve some things. In learning the logic of science and technology I realized that my leanings were towards athiesm. I've been quite comfortable staying in the void up until now. However, my grandchildren are starting to question things like the existence of god and what happens when you die, so I'm beginning to think perhaps I need to crystallize my belief system.
What'shappening - I felt the same way in many respects. Recently I've started to resolve what I believe about death, though, and it helped mitigate the sense of loss. I don't believe in resurrection, but I do believe my loved ones are still with me in different ways. I guess it comes down to needing to believe in something, rather than nothing at all.
