  SAD news about OOMPA......

  just recieved the news a couple of hours ago, and have almost no details.

  it happened today or yesterday, he took his own life.

  well if someone came to you saying they were going to sacrifice one of thier children to god because god spoke to them telling them to do so what would you conclude?

  would you tell him to be faithfull to the voice and do it so they can become god's friend like abraham was?.

  We actually had an interesting discussion on this topic at work today. There are many examples of people who have heard voices and taken action as a result. Joan of Arc, Joseph Smith are two that come to mind outside of those in the Bible. So where are these voices coming from? From a purely psychiatric perspective, we might be inclined to diagnose a mental illness. Or is it a religious experience and the voices come from some other place? How to know the difference?

  i ask this, as some fools at the kingdumb hell seem to think it is because the "bulletin" refers to weapons of aggression.. it actually originates with the latin bulla, or notice (hence all the papal bull).

  in italian, this became "bulletino" or little notice, fastened to a door or wall.. somebody in the witchtower hierarchy is talking a pile of bull if they really did say it was to avoid reference to weapons.... hb.

  I was always taught that the best friends were family. Then my family turned on me.

  I've had good friends both inside the religion and out. But JW friends will not stick with you if the elders tell them not to.

  Given that their counsel is generally to break up such a relationship, I could see them going in that direction. REinstatement wouldn't have to be conditional on divorce, just on sufficient "punishment" time passing.

  well.....i am now officially on the precipice of divorce.

  it started last tuesday night.

  my wife brings the kids home at 10:00 pm after the meeting....then dinner....then ice cream.

  outsmart - take care of your mental health, but do it in a cautious way so that it cannot be used against you later. In other words, get help but don't tell your wife you are depressed. The stigma is alive and well, unfortunately, and you are right to be concerned.

  you are right about kids being smart. But you can also talk honestly with them during your "dad time". When they come out with the Satan remarks, just tell them its not true. Don't let your wife answer their questions because she will just reinforce that crap. I grew up in a home where my dad was not allowed to speak or be a father because he was not a JW. He could have stood up for himself but he chose not to, instead he just let us be indoctrinated. Don't let that happen.

  Your wife is bribing the kids, too. Meeting night is a big treat with the ice cream. Perhaps rather than arguing about that one, counter it with a special non-meeting family night.
