JW tour bus crashes in Florida, with fatalities-
by moshe inmiami - a bus carrying 32 members of a church group hit a concrete overpass at miami international airport after the driver got lost, killing two elderly people on board and leaving three others critically injured, officials said saturday.. the large, white bus was too tall for the 8-foot-6-inch entrance to the arrivals area, said airport spokesman greg chin.
buses are supposed to go through the departures area, which has a higher ceiling, he said.. chin said the passengers told him they were part of a group of jehovah's witnesses headed to west palm beach.
police said in a news release that the group had chartered the bus to take them to a church convention there-.

With elders like that, who needs Pharisees!
by 00DAD ini'm sure you're all familiar with the quip, "with friends like that, who needs enemies!
a recent thread got me thinking about how this easily applies to the organization in general and to many of the elders in particular.
now i know, there are some few good elders out there (god knows i tried to be one).

The elders at my JC were certainly the Pharisee type. One shook the Bible at me and said, "we don't have to tell you what this says. You know the rules". He was the same one who told me that since he personally could not work as a musician without "sinning" he assumed I must be the same. The appeal group was like night and day - but when they asked me if I wanted to share anything about the original elders I said no, afraid to criticize them and thinking that somehow Jehovah would do the right thing by me.
Then there was the nasty elder on the committee I had to deal with after I moved. He used to beat his kids senseless in the bedroom at the book study every time for reasons like not having bowed their head during the prayer. He was just mean for the sake of meanness. He got killed in a farm accident before the committee ever got around to reinstating me. I found it hard to feel any sorrow.
When I was younger I recall one elder who would pick at everything I did and criticize me. After I had kids, one meeting he told me to take my 2-year-old daughter to the back because we were sitting in the front row and she was looking back at him and making faces and laughing.
Then there is my brother the uber elder. So holy and righteous that he tried to take my kids from me because I wasn't attending meetings. When my youngest daughter attended her cousin's wedding he made her leave the area where "family" was seated. My daughter isn't baptized and has had nothing to do with JWs since she was 10 years old. He just judges her through me.

"the mess in the west"
by Hortensia inlast night the folks on the weather channell were referring to our rainstorm as "the mess in the west.
" they always have to have a catch phrase, don't they.
i understand oregon is getting dumped on, up to a foot of rain in some areas, but we're closer to the southern end of the storm and they say we're just getting a few inches.. anway, isn't rain glorious?

Many years ago I was visiting LA and it rained. The freeways were jammed and we missed our flight out. The airline was understanding, explaining that everything in LA comes to a standstill when it rains. Now, I live where we have winter 8 months of the year (sometimes snow in June!), and our roads can be a deadly mix of snow, ice, wind, fog, whiteouts. One year I drove from Montana up through the border in a complete whiteout. Thought I was going to die (and I had my four little girls with me). So I found it a bit funny that LA would be so challenged by a little rain. Guess it comes down to what you become accustomed to. Weather extremes challenge everyone.

you guys make me soooo jealous. I would LOVE to see Annie Lennox, Roy Orbison, Joan Baez...and all the rest you list.
Let's see - I'm not much of a concert goer in my adult life, so most were in my younger days:
- Santana,
- Blues Magoos,
- The Who (when they were still an opening act)
- Hermans Hermits,
- Iron Butterfly,
- Procul Harem,
- Neil Diamond,
- Journey,
- Van Morrison,
- BeeGees,
- Crowded House
- Moody Blues
- Foreigner
- Jose Feliciano
- Los Angeles Negros
- Victor Borge
I had more personal encounters and met the musicians:
- Loverboy (Mike Reno hung out in our hotel room after the show),
- Beach Boys (they picked me and my sister out from on stage and send their manager to get us for later (haha), but we left!),
- Heart
- Burton Cummings (very sleazy guy)
- Johnnie Winter - I hung out all night with his guitar player after the show
- Chilliwack - met them at a truck stop in the middle of the night

Leonard Cohen was in my city a week ago, but I was working and couldn't go. Heard he was amazing, though.
I was at Journey last week, an all-time wish list fave, except Steve Perry was not there, so it was a mixed pleasure. Muse is coming here soon. I'd love to see any of these artists, I just find the ticket price so prohibitive. I would have loved to see Paul McCartney, but not at $250 minimum.
I did get to see Procul Harem when they recorded with the Edmonton Symphony - amazing! And OMG if I could have seen Janis....

Is Your Life In Ruins Because You Were A Jehovah's Witness?

I would hope that no matter how badly our lives were ruined by being a JW, that we have the strength to turn things around IF we have the strength to leave a cult that, for many of us, represented our lifetime of thinking and belief, then we have the strength to make our lives better.
I may not be able to have the career I would have had 30 years ago, but I can still follow my dreams.

A Journey without Steve

...is still a pretty good trip. But how I wish Steve had been there.
Enjoyed a Journey concert tonight, but sans my favourite male singer of all time - Steve Perry. I rarely go to concerts, so this was a treat in itself. STeve's replacement is good, and he's got a heart-tugging backstory. But he's no Steve. I came home singing "na na na na na na...na na na na na..." and "Don't stop believing...hold on to your dreams". I actually had tears on my cheeks at "softly you whisper...you're so sincere. How could our love be so blind? So now I come to you with open arms...nothing to hide, believe what I say." But how I missed Steve.
For Canadians - Loverboy opened and they came close to outshining Journey. Amazing classic rock band that can still fill a huge stadium with people screaming "turn me loose!"

No. Not in ruins. I lost a lot of productive years and I would be much better off financially if I hadn't. But I believe in looking forward, not back.
I went to university the year I turned 42. Finally graduated with a masters when I was over 50. Now I'm trying to start my career, but I'm hitting a lot of ageism walls. Lost most of my family, but not my kids, thank goodness. I don't have many friends, nor do I have a network of support. But I'm okay with that now. I take my negative events and turn them into valuable lessons for my future.

He brought her INTO MY HOUSE!
by WuzLovesDubs inim stuck in hell here...im stuck in a house i cant get sold, to get the money so that i can get the divorce and get away from this cheatin ass jw im married to.
i know every single time he goes out he goes to be with her ("but only in groups") and even though he was told by the elders to not have contact with her because its inappropriate he continues to do so unabated.
last week i went across the state to attend my sons final state marching competition as a senior...which he never went to ever.

Wow, WLD. I was married to a serial cheater, so I understand and share your outrage. And he has the gall to put the blame on you and find ways to excuse his behaviour? Unbelievable. It is most certainly an affair, whether or not "sleeping together" is involved, and for him to flaunt it in front of everyone, including your daughter, is unconscionable. I hope you are getting some legal advice as well.
