  Do you think a 7 and 9 year old kid should have a cell phone?

  okay...so many of you know that i have two stepdaughters....great kids, 7 and 9. currently they are living with us.

  now, when they, or one of them is with their mom, it is like pulling teeth to get her to answer the phone or call back when we leave a message to talk to the girls.

  there was one period of time that my husband went almost 10 months without getting to talk to his oldest daughter when she was with her mom.

  No, they are WAY too young. Its not just the responsibility aspect. Cell phones create very independent children - their friends don't call on the land line, you don't know where they are when you call them...7 and 9 are too young for that kind of independence.

  But cell phones seem to be the least of the problem here. I don't envy you, Eyebrow - I had to deal with a difficult mother when I was bringing up her child (me the stepmother), and it was a nightmare. I don't like what this woman is doing to you - but you didn't ask for advice on that aspect, so I won't give it!

  Please Keep whyamihere & her little son in your thoughts today

  hello everybody...my daughter (in-law), whyamihere/brooke, has been at the hospital all day with her little boy, 1 yr. 4 months old...who has had such a bad case of the flu that they had to hook him up to an iv for fluid.

  he was sick all last week and then was getting better...then took a turn for the worse yesterday.

  can't keep anything down.

  Are we really free or are we just kidding ourselves?

  hope i can get some positive feedback., and i really mean it, don?t want to offend anyone but .. .

  reflecting on your own experiences are people on this website mainly open to new points of views, new ideas, or is this mainly a site for criticizing even when there?s no concrete evidence just for the sake of it.

  reason why i?m asking this is because i?ve been a member here for just under a week here and already had unpleasant experience of being dragged into pretty nasty argument just because i dared to disagree with someone.

  There are some strong emotions here, and like any community, there are people who can be abrasive or rude (I encountered one in chat the other night). You cannot be part of a forum like this, engaging in heated topics, without having some occasional conflict.

  However, I do think you've raised an interesting point, cyborg - as JW's we were extremely intolerant of other viewpoints. I do a lot of self-reflection to ensure I'm not still suffering some of those lingering effects.

  There is nothing wrong with having a good argument, we just have to try not to take it personally.

  What Was Your Greatest "Privilege" In The Organization?

  As a "sister" and having a non-believing father, privileges were pretty scarce. I did pioneer for 4 years and gave a talk at a circuit assembly once. I was also the KH pianist for many years, something I really treasured. One day a high-profile, rich elder & family moved in. His daughter played piano, so I was immediately replaced. After that I would be invited to play piano for the odd wedding or funeral.

  Making new friends after fading

  what are some good methods for finding and making new friends after fading away?

  i know this is critical to help myself and my wife to move on, and we both have suffered from depression partly because we are isolated to each other for now.

  we are good friends, but we both feel the need for others also.

  Volunteering is a great suggestion. Join an organization that you are interested in - a non-profit group or a group working towards a cause, an ethnic society, community league, even a political group. Take a course.

  Don't be discouraged if it takes time - friendships don't come easy. you are fortunate to have each other, so even finding more activities you can do together will help.

  Get involved in things you weren't allowed to do before!

  #1 worst: That all other religions and people who are outside of JW's are unworthy and deserving of destruction. To me, that's the same thinking that leads to terrorist attacks like 9/11.

  I did, at least one year that I recall. It actually gave the whole thing some meaning, and as I tried to visualize what Jesus would have gone through, it affected me deeply. If we believe that the whole story is true, it was pretty profound.

  Dunno if I believe anymore, though.

  Their Deeds Make For A Good Counter Witness

  last teusday, i made a decision to start my life anew and without bitterness.

  my first deed was to call my ex girlfriend.

  my second deed was to tell the jw's who bullied me as a child that i forgave them for their stupidity.. i swang by the kingdom hall on my bike, donned with my blue hair and multiple ear peircings and black clothes.

  Does disfellowshipping work?
