My name is [blank]. My job is long term planning. This is a difficult job because we teach our members the end is near, and therefore there shouldn't be any long term planning. So this is what I do... I pretend the end isn't coming and work out what I would do with regard to beliefs which may become impossible to defend in say, 10 or 20 years. Then I work out a strategy for changing or watering down these beliefs, or simply preparing the members for possibility of changes.
The danger is to allow one self to actually believe the end isn't coming so I have to keep praying and reminding myself that it is.
Examples of why my job is important can be seen throughout the history of the organisation, such as when the Governing Body had not expected the numbers to rise above 144,000 and suddenly had to introduce the great crowd, which now actually makes up nearly all of the witnesses.

What would they say?
by Stealth inabout a year ago there were parts given on the service meeting to introduce the various members of the elder body and exactly what they did in their role.
i am the congregation secretary and as such i am responsible for bla bla bla bla bla....... i was thinking, why stop there?
i would like to see the same kind of article published in the watchtower magazine written by each member of the gb.

"Do Not Irritate". Total Dub Garbage.
by Englishman in"you fathers, do not be irritating your children but go on bringing them up in the self regulating mental blah blah blah".. good grief, how many times did the wtbts trot out that old chestnut?
as a kid it drove me nuts, as a father of several children it did indeed irritate me beyond measure because of its appalling mis-application.. you want to know why it was so irritating?
because the boyz n' brooklyn interpreted it as follows, something like this:.

welcome unbap1,
Surely you don't believe that "ark" stuff about there only being one org do you? You talk about getting back to basics, well for me that is "God is love".
For God to have one group (obviously led by hypocritical as well as imperfect leaders) and for salvation to depend on finding this group is just far too small minded for an omnipotent God.
God is too big to fit in any one church and our presumption that an organisation (or financial institution) can own the rights of passage to God I find distastefull and blasphemous. -

Governing Body... YOU ARE THE WEAKEST LINK
by ballistic in"who tells their members they have the truth, but keep changing the truth?

...who tells their members not to join political organisations and joins the un?

They are rich with the blood of the innocent Fred for a start. That is far worse than the fact they gamble their profits on the stock market.

Fred
What money?
That is what the GB will be saying when thier membership in the 3rd world which is rising exceeds that in the Western World which is dropping. -

Who tells their members they are open minded, but don't allow them to hear alternative views? ...Who tells their members not to join political organisations and joins the UN? ...Who has the audacity to presume they have a monopoly on the true God? ... Well it's votes that count and your membership is crumbling, you are the weakest link, GOODBYE!

WT-UN: The Bottom Line
by comment inwhen the watchtower society applied to become a un ngo, they had to agree to support the un.. it *doesn't matter* what their purpose in applying was.
it could have been to further the preaching work, to be more like all the other religions, or to get lloyd barry's wife off his back because she'd been bugging him for weeks about how much fun it would be to do something with the un.
it doesn't matter.. they had to agree to support the un.

I can't quite remember the scriptural basis for this, but do you remember that JW quote about Jesus removing the holy spirit from a congregation because of something he was agrieved about?

Count Time The Apostate Way
by ballistic inthe other post on counting time got me thinking.... if we can get some field service report forms, we can all fill out our time we spend preaching and either send them or put them in the report boxes at kingdom halls.. after all, i've seen at least one witness admit to reporting time which was spent on-line, so why can't we?

Counting Time... Is It Part Of The Rot?
by ballistic inhow many here have pioneered?.
be honest, what was predominantly on your mind, telling people this wonderfull good news or was it counting time?.
an elder once said to me, "you know, it's strange how when pioneers quit pioneering, they're hours don't stay the same, they don't gradually diminish and they don't even drop by half... they drop practically to nothing.".

Sheri, that's an extremely valid and good point. Do you know I hadn't even thought of that. It's obvious now.
