One elder at my congregation had the term "the new system is so near, you can almost reach out and touch it!" that was about 20 years ago. I often wonder if he still uses it.
The other thing he used to say was... "we are allready in paradise, a spiritual paradise".
I wonder if this is some way of consoling people, making them feel like they have some kind of paradise even if the real one's not coming.

Gleaning work now, not harvest
by eby inthe public talk speaker today said that some countries like the us are no longer in the harvest work but are now in the gleaning work.
hmmm.
sounds like a creative way to rationalize the lack of increase.. eby

Can you answer this?(scientific question)
by sleepy inhere is and interesting question which touches on some points raised in other posts.. can things really move?.
if you haven't thought about it before it may seem like a stupid question, but i'll try to explain.. one of the principles of quantum physics is that things do not get infinatly smaller.there is a granuality to objects so at some point things don't get any smaller.. the same holds with energy if you take energy out of a system you can not go on forever .eventually you hit absolute zero were every thing is still.. in the other direction , the speed of light is an absolute limit.. so what happens if you make smaller and smaller movements eventually you would stop.but what is the next smallest movement between being stopped and moving?.
if we put some figures on it it may make it easier.. if to be stoped is 0 and the next possible amonut of movment is 1 you could not move say 1/2 as that is smaller than 1 and if you could keep dividing forever like this you would never reach absolute standstill.. so like the particals in the universe movment has to be granular as well.made up of definate jumps though very tiny.. if this is the case then there is a problem how does one object , if we imagine the smallest to be a quark jump from one place to another is it technicaly the same object or a new one ?.

Purpose of life
by ItsJustMe inthe ageold question that i'm sure we have all given some degree of thought to...what is the purpose of life?
anyone have a theory/opinion they would like to share?.
my personal opinion on this is not solid enough yet to be considered a belief.

I think being brought up a witness actually made me dwell on the purpose of life to such an extent, I wasn't able to enjoy it. Kids shouldn't be forced to contemplate these issues so early in their lives. While it is important, I think this is something which can often be depressing by it's nature.
Now I am no longer a witness, I am starting to enjoy life for what it is, and what it is, is what you make of it. -

The tent of God represents a computer network. His peoples are the participants in a multi player dungeon game.
"And God himself will be with them. 4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes," self explanitory - the players will be really happy.
"and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."- is a kind of cheat mode where you have infinate lives.
"5 And the One seated on the throne said: "Look! I am making all things new." - the imminent release of a new hard ware platform.
"I am the Al'pha and the O·me'ga," well, I preffered the Amiga.
"To anyone thirsting I will give from the fountain of the water of life free."- well this isn't quite true, you need to get to the end of the game to get to the fountain of the water of life. At that stage you get 10 million points and some extra ammo. -

No, they seem to have played down the idea of not having children as well - maybe that is all that is keeping the numbers up.
Of course, any thing which wastes money, such as a pet or a nice car is still frowned upon.
You guys in the States sometimes forget that in central Europe and England the numbers are actually dropping. The areas of biggest gains are in poor, developing countries. Ouch.

Because the society uses the cheapest method of selling: millions of hours of members time which costs them nothing.
And unlike at the turn of the last century when the lady of the house generally didn't work and numbers of children per household were larger, people now days are never home when they call.
In most households, the same person always answers the door.
Most of my associates have also never spoken to witnesses. Especially the ones that live with me; I'm a DO NOT CALL!
I shudder when I read the service report and see the huge amount of hours put in by so many people, all going to such waste. -
