Classless American Behavior
by Pathofthorns ini was watching the hockey game yesterday and i thought i heard 'booing' during canada's national anthem.
earlier in the week the same thing occurred during the raptor's playoff game.. as some are aware canada has been mourning and burying their 4 dead soldiers due to the incompetence of an american fighter pilot who dropped a bomb on them while they were carrying out training exercises.
flags are flying at half-mast as canadians try to make sense of such a careless mistake.. i find it hard to believe any civilized person would show such disrespect to another country to 'boo' them during their national anthem at any time, and more so during a time of mourning because of death caused directly by american hands.. i sincerely hope american media chastised their countrymen who showed such insensitive, classless, ignorant and disrespectful behavior to their neighbours.

I tell you something that made me think the other day. Our scrap heap challenge program has an American version. The other day they had two teams firing rounds out of home made cannons at brick walls. And as one team's shot failed to knock out any bricks, the other team seemed to wallow in the failure of the other. I was quite taken aback by this and at the time a friend of mine said "that is the American way". But I certainly don't judge a whole nation by this incident.
Perhaps us British are just particularly good at patting our opponents on the back and saying "well, bad luck old fellow, you gave it your best shot" rather than cheering their failure and disadvantage. -

I've heard there are French and German versions of boards similar to this. I wouldn't mind looking into these out of curiosity even though I couldn't read very much. -

How much $ did you give for CD's, books etc?
by expatbrit innow i know money is a touchy subject, so if you feel discomforted by these questions, don't answer!.
remember those articles that basically said "some have asked an appropriate amount to contribute for items such as the cd, bound volumes etc.
this crap usually sells for $x in the shops."?.

Here in the UK, the arrangement of "contributing" for literature instead of buying it only went out about 10 years ago when I left, therefore I had to splash out continually for new products.
When I was a pioneer, the literature was free or discounted but we had to contribute any takings.
It's the hours spent, not the money that makes me go ballistic. Hour after hour after hour completely wasted for a lost cause. It makes me feel sorry for those who spent their whole life doing this. I really can't tell you just how frightening and sickening this is to me. -

What are the chances I will make a Jedi tonight (in GMT time)? Place your bets please. :) -

Xenu, and the danger of his UFO cult posts
by seven006 inbefore i go into the explanation of what xenu is trying to do on this board and presenting the information about his cult i would like to express my agenda up front and absolutely clear.
this board is now just shy of 5000 registered users.
i'm sure the amount of unregistered lurkers drives that figure up much higher, possibly more than double.

Refiners, just one thing;
"Being ex-dubs WE are very unlikely to be joining up with new age cults" - you are correct. But I remember back 9 - 10 years to when I was going through disfellowshipping and divorce at a very young age, I was approached and went for a session of auditing with the Scientologists. I obviously escaped by the skin of my teeth and it scares me now, just thinking about it.
What I'm saying is this; you really can be vulnerable to cult attack (whether on the web or elsewhere as I was) having just left the witnesses, depending on your situation. I would imagine there is a percentage (and not a tiny percentage) that are at that stage here. God help them. -

You know, I always thought the magazines were over simplified and talked down to it's readers. They use the milk and meat metaphor quite a lot which is ironic considering I never saw any literature I could really get my teeth into.
