A show on the science channel was interesting. A scientist was able to trace human DNA back 50,000 to a bush tribe in Africa through the male line. Very interesting show. Now way man existence is only 6,000. Bible thumpers need to wise up.

The 7000 year "Creative Day"
by Fe2O3Girl inwhen i was a youngster, the creative days of genesis 1 were always referred to as being 7000 years long.
i believe the 1975 hoo-hah was related to this teaching as 6000 years since adam's creation plus a 1000 year reign neatly wraps up a 7000 years seventh day of rest.. in another thread narkissos quoted a wt article from 1983 that repeats the 7000 year day teaching.
i don't think anyone much younger than me, or anyone who bacame a jw in the last 10-15 years is aware of this belief.

Lawrence realizes his daughter may have died in time, but the policy on blood hassened her death prematurely. I agree his sign had nothing to do with his case. He is very angry at this point and is lashing out at the whole organization because he feels it betrayed him. Much the way we all have felt over the years after leaving the JW's. Learning the WTS is teaching bogus dates and much more, and he spent years preaching the end is coming really has him riled up.

Well, I've given this subject a lot of thought. I had never felt I was in love with my 1st husband and we remained married for 30 years. It was a marriage of comfort, companionship, and the JW religion held it together long past the part when it was any good.
It wasn't untill I was 49 that it happen to me. What I call falling in love with a high school sweetheart or boy I had a cush on in JR high and High school. Well as kids were too young to do much with it. But we found each other ater 30 years and sparks flew. I left my loveless marriage and so did he. Now my new husband and I are experiening a very different kind of relationship with each other than our previous marriages. Its been over 3 years and it is still very very strong. We still feel a very strong love that I fully expected would fade, but hasn't.
It is unlike any experience of intoxication we're ever know, and it has not faded, but gotten better, which is something we could not say of other so called love experiences.
Personally it is brain chemistry, and just like a puzzle piece that just fits in the right place when it finally happens. I know most people don't experience this kind of relationship, but when you do it is extra-ordinary. And I am grateful to have found it in this life. For it is so very good.

NWT Scholars
by homme perdu in.
the book, reasoning from the scriptures does not inform the reader on who are the nwt scholars nor their education background.
could someone provide some information concerning the nwt scholars?

I still use the NWT in talking to witnesses. There are some changes in the scriptures like the addition of the name Jehovah and those scriptures that sort of hint at a trinity are reworded. But that aside JW used other translations to come up with their own. I don't thing there was anything scholarly about it. It is basically their version borrowed from others that they liked. If I run across a scripture that has been changed, I point out other translations. Of course they believe their translations is the only god approved bible there is.
If they used one of the modern translations life the NIV they would cause less of a stir, because no one outside of JW use the NWT. Why would they?

Did you read the book "1984" of Georges Orwell?
by Nicolas inthis book is one of the best book i've ever read.
it describe well the technics that the watchtower use to manipulate their jehovah's witness.

I think it is one of those must read books. I picked up the movie of it too by the same name with John Hurt in it. Very good. That is a story that can apply to religion, or government or anything by which powerful men try to fool the public.

JEWS KNOW NOTHING ABOUT DE BIBLE!!
by Mary ini was invited over to some witnesses' home for supper the other night.
these are nice people even though they still are blinded by this religion so i accepted their invitation.
anyway we got talking about the bible (naturally) and his wife commented on the scripture where that one guy asks jesus about waiting until he had buried his father before he becomes a follower of his.

That final comment by the witnesses gal was so typical of the ignorance that used to just irritate the heck out of me while I was a witness. The snide superior attitude that only the WTS knew at all. My ex-husband who was a JW too would say such thinks too while acting all special. I would just shake my head with the incredible ignorance. Funny how I tolerated it as long as I did. With the JW frowning on education it is no wonder they viewed people with education with a negative attitude. And Jews even more so for not believing in Jesus. It is funny this jw women did not even ask if the Jewish man was a Christian or not. Jewish predjudice still affect people thinking everywhere even in the Churches today.

They did that at the Kingdom Hall I went too. Here I was nursing babies and trying to quite them down and here was a brother giving the talk loudly in the bathrooms. I complained about it being too loud and was causing the babies to cry. They did turn it down but they till left it in there. The speakers were in the room where the toilets were. No speaker though in the sitting area for moms, but it was so loud you could not hear yourself think. Besides it was so darn irritating.
I am so thankful to be able to laugh at this stupid stuff that happen to us as witnesses. Thank goodness we all had sense enough to see how stupid it was finally.

My wife has joined me in leaving the Watchtower!!!
by AlmostAtheist ini had posted a few times since my awakening asking how best to talk to my wife about my new take on things.
i was very afraid of handilng it poorly and chasing her deeper into the organization.
instead, she basically said, 'i've been feeling the same way!

I tell you there is nothing better than being able to help your family get out of the borg. Until they realize though they are in the borg is is painful and sad. I know when both my sons left the witnesses after I left I was so happy and pleased. Today we all are living happy ever after.

Yep a cult because it fits perfectly from the guildlines given about cults.
Its weird but it still feels weird to say it is a cult. I remember one time at that door being told it was a cult, and I said why is that? Well the householder said because we didn't believe in a burning helll and the trinity. I said is that the definition of a cult? "YES" they replied hotly. I said that sounds more like an an opinion rather than a reasonable outline of a cult.
I went home and looked up cult. Found Steven Hassan list and shamed to realize that yes JW were certainly cultish.

Brenda,
My Mom lived with me the last 10 years of her life from 75 to 85. Well the last 5 years she was not able to attend meetings, and she gradually drifted away from the JW thinking. She was quite funny about it sometimes. Calling the Elders Stuffed Shirts, and telling me not to let those boring men in to see her. I think the more they are away from the baloney and the mind control, they soften. I hope you can visit your parents more, it will enrich your life and theirs before they pass on.
