i absolutely love this time of year, and the warm feelings, and the general feeling of good will emitting from people, but, not really having a faith in christ or religion, i somehow find it difficult to use the word christmas, as it denotes a celebration of christ... .
for those of us who enjoy this season, but aren't really firm believers, can any of us think of a name that could be used instead of the word "christmas", that would have special meaning for believers and non-believers alike, a word that evokes the same emotional feelings?
i have spent the past week decking the halls, and setting up the "christmas" tree(s), getting ready for this holiday which i enjoy so much, but it is that one word "christmas" that somehow makes me feel as though i am contradicting myself, because i no longer have a faith in that higher power.
We're Star Trek fans, and decorate our Tree with all Star Trek ornaments.
We're not religious, and we just celebrate life and good friends and family.
Hey we even have one of those fish symbols that Christians use on their Car, only ours says Trek in the middle of it and it is the Enterprise shape. LOL Praise the goddess there is fantasy. LOL

Goodness, altercation at a blockbuster. Just the thought of that makes me uneasy. I understand that it came from one or the other dinging the side of the other ones car. Words insued and hitting then a gun was pulled. Stupid senseless violence.
As for the refusal of blood that JW and his wife were doing what they were conditioned to do by the WTS. Can't help but wonder what provoked the JW fellow hitting the other guy over the head. Neither of them might not survive. My other thought is that blood might not saved their lives anyway, it depends on how injured they were. The guy with the gun should be prosecuted for shooting both the man & his wife. Why didn't the guy just call the cops rather than pulling a gun?
Don't pay to make a big deal out of someone dinging our cars that is for sure.

have you made the same effort investigating the history of how scripture was written down, compiled, redacted and selected as you did reinforcing your jw doctrines week after week at the kingdom hall?.
if you have; then you know it cannot be factual.. there have always been agendas.
the people with the agendas needed to wield power and using an invisible backup agent was a great device for controlling others.. somebody is always insisting they have an invisible and mysterious source of divine information and selling it like hotcakes and syrup.
Have been reading some of Thomas Paines writtings from the 1800's, the man could be speaking to today. Very interesting.
Personally it is liberating to not have the religious dogma hanging over my head not that my research has convinced me that the bible is a book of fiction.
so i suppose i should give a little background here first, since i am not very regular here.
i was in "the truth" for a number of years, my wife with me, progressing nicely and was even a ministerial servant.
however, after a while i just couldn't do it anymore.
Just tell her to come and enjoy, and if any of her friends ask what she did, she can tell them my husband insisted on us going together to share time with family and eat turkey. She'll enjoy if it she just lets herself. Let her blame it on you, it will give her an out with the JW's.
Shoot lots of JW families had turkey on Thanksgiving and invited others over just to have time to share a meal togehter. After all Turkey is the cheapest meat available during this time. LOL

i was a regular pioneer for six year, thanks god now i don't.
i'm still a jw, but you know why, yes because my friends and family.

I think everyone tries hard to give support and you can read some great advice here. I am currently in conact with a JW fellow in Belgium. The Elders are really putting the screws to him because he questioned the blood policy and did some research in the bible himself about it. Well they removed him as an pioneer and stripped him of privledges in the congregation he valued. I told him reaching out to those outside who are ex-jw will help him. He is struggling with what is truth now. He hasn't read COC, don't think he is ready for that, but he sure is doing some thinking. It is such a shock to find out that the religion is not what it claims to be.

I was a JW for 30 years, raised my sons in it and when I left their Dad and the religion they left with me. They are finding their way.

Glad to meet you. Good for you drifting out, have met several who have sucessfully done that. I was a JW for 30 years. Raised my sons in it and when I left the JW's my boys left with me. Their Dad whom I left has remained in and has remarried to another JW gal. I've got a wonderful husband of two years who is simply the diamond of my eye.
So how does your sister and Mom treat you, and is your Mom really very active?

Yes I got to thinking after I left the JW, Jesus didn't mean he came to make the obscure name Yahweh know, but what Yahweh represented as a God. Makes much more sense.

Welcome to the group, makes no difference you've never been a JW. There are lots of folks out there that deal with Jehovah's Witnesses that they have come to know. It is good to understand how they think and why they do the weird stuff they sometimes do.
Tell us about your friend, you don't have to us a name or anything. Is he an active JW? By active, I mean does he go to the Kingdom Hall, go in the door to door preaching work.? Stuff like that.
