man, i had to read at the book study tonight (which is still at my house btw).. this was the first of the real "meat" of the daniel book (spam more like it, actually).. anyways, for those of you that don't know i am trying to get up the nerve to explain to my wife what i have been learning.

i watched a tv show last night on tlc.
it was talking about noah's ark and all that stuff.
the thing that stuck out in my mind and made me laugh out loud was this....they interviewed many scientist and they all said the same thing, ''there is no natural evidence that a wordly flood ever took place.''.
Further to tetra's point -
Not only does the WTBS argue that belief in numerous cultures proves the flood is true, they also argue that the belief in an immortal soul in numerous cultures proves they have all been lied to by Satan.
Now go figure..

now to cover a point of a different nature but one i feel very important, a point in which the society has deliberatly tried to gloss over in their manipulating of scripture.
we see in rev.
1:7,8 a mention of the alpha and omega, the one who is, who was, and who is to come.
Actually the WTBS does not know its ass from its elbow on this one.
If you look up the discussions of these verses in the "Revelation Grand Climax at Hand" one section 'proves' the Alpha and Omega to be Jesus, and another Jehovah.
How that contradiction got through in the first edition (the only one I read) is beyond me. Sadly I threw the book out during the darkest days of realisation so I cannot provide page and para references.
Incidentally shouldn't we feel sorry for poor lonely unloved Revelation??

some critics (here) of intelligent design theories claim that it is "self-refuting" to invoke design and / or complexity, as evidence for an intelligent designer explanation for things such as the origin of life, other complex biological structures, etc.
since this claim comes up somewhat frequently, i thought it should be given its own thread.
I think tetra wins.
Most of the scientists I have met who believe in creation are astronomers and physicists innocent of biology.
The WTBS constantly trundles out Fred Hoyle who did not accept the theory of sudden inflation in the early universe.
He invented the pejorative term BIG BANG for this. His lamentable lack of comprehension of the new cosmology, and non-biological discipline does not make him an authoritative pro creation witness. (not witless!!)

i was reading the recent posts on 2034 and was wondering... .
the 1975 debacle left the fds scrambling for explanations for the mass exodus of r&f who were disillusioned by their bs.
the pat answer has always been, "those people didn't keep pace with god's chariot" and they weren't "strong in the truth" and allowed something so "minor" to "stumble" them.
Compare the previous years peak publishers with the following years peak publishers: subtract one from the other.
then add in the baptisms. The remaining discrepancy is how many left in that year interim.
eg
1914 peak 1000
1915 peak 1500
difference = 500
number baptized in 1914: 35
500 - 35 = 465
Dammit how does this work? I did it correctly not long ago to find that over 100 000 left in one year in spite of baptisms and deaths.
