Do JWs give you the creeps?
by sonnyboy ini'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but i've recently begun to get the willies when i'm around an active jehovah's witness.
this didn't happen until after i started posting here.. when i stop by my parents' house on a saturday morning and the witnoids show up, i get a sinking feeling in my stomach....a mix between sickness, fear, and anger.
i used to try and put on a happy face and be sociable when they came in, but now i just wave goodbye and as i'm walking out.

Yes.I never socialize with them now. (Not that they invite me). Wierd stilted conversations. (DOES ANYBODY FEEL CREATIVE ENOUGH TO DO ONE)
I realized how far I've come, a couple of years ago. For once I went to the group study (the elders were gettin' pesky) and a woman was there who had been out for 20 years. We shared mutual memories and chatted and laughed after, she was the only normal person there. No rictus smile. No did you read in the latest magazine?
Lots of them walk past me these days with a curt hello, even tho I go to the meeting every 2 or 3 weeks to keep the peace.

by GetBusyLiving ina christian friend of mine had a melt down this weekend and screamed at my roommate about both of us being "preachy atheists".
he also said, in talking about me, that "i can see it in his eyes, he think's he's right!
" it was after a bunch of drinks at a bar and my roommate said that he was nearly in tears.

He' s terrified because your arguments are convincing. The same reaction I get when I point things out to dubs that they can't deny.
If you were arguing creepy jesus talk he would not even remark how convinced you eyes looked.
As for spirituality. This is a state of human consciousness or being at a particular moment. I don't see it as less real than other states of mind. It has produced beautiful music poetry and art, and does not depend on the existence or other wise of the tooth fairy or Santa claus.

the reason why i didn't answer you back is twofold: (1) i'm at work and they kind of expect me to do other things besides post on jwd; (2) my husband chris (big tex) answered your question sufficiently for me so i didn't see a need to respond.. nina i am curious as to why you didnt finish our discussion and respond to my answer?
was raised as one of jehovah's witnesses, and i am very pleased to be able to offer my children the respect to make their own decisions about what to believe .

I am driving along and in front of me is another car.
I read the registration, and nearly skid off the road.
This is incredible - even though the odds against that sequence of numbers at this point in spacetime being where I can see them and they are made by intelligent beings who breathe oxygen like me, not hydrogen - even though the odds are so huge!!!
I hold my hands up in humility. There must be a God. Or maybe I'm dyslexic - in which case a Dog. But, in that case, how do I know the letters are in the order I think, oh I know, having just felt the divine presence I wait for another human to reveal it to me in his name....
Oh the riches, oh the depth.

One of the biggest defects in the JW way of bringing up kids is that the parents do exactly what df says:
As long as they are children the parents decide for them what to believe, what to do how to think what to wear who to play with what they can't believe or think.
Then: BANG! The child is grown up and "You're on your own now. Make your own decisions. But if they aren't what we want then you'll be disfellowshipped and we will never speak to you again because you are bird food."
Parents need to help kids to reason for themselves as to what is right or true or good, and hope and trust that they have done their best without stunting the childs own moral and spiritual development - even if as adults they make a reasoned choice opposite to what we would ideally wish.
Witness kids are so controlled that the idea is actually planted in their head that out of sight, they will do bad things because that is what unsupervised children do. I know. And I read the the WT so don't even attempt to deny it. When they are adults they are often badly developed socially, legalistic on right and wrong, sniffy around "worldlings" and unable to fit into the real world. (Of course that's what the WTBS wants. No sane parent would want tocripple their child like this.)
Incidentally - if wordly parents all did such a bad job the world would be far far FAR worse than it is. The world in so many ways is truly better than say 1000 years ago, and it happened without the help of Crooklyn Brothel.

I am quite happy to hear from a being called God.Since he has never been posting on this board, we have only the poorly argued contradictions of various posters, who do not always agree on major doctrines, never mind details so dear to the heart of the self righteous.
As for Romans 2 : The scripture quite clearly states that these people of the nations are accused or excused, by God in the judgement.
This is not my interpretation, but is quite clearly stated in the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church. I don't see how Shining One can argue successfully with what the vicar of Christ on earth has endorsed for instruction of the faithful.
