  would you be an active witness or even an inactive one if you could change a few things?

  for example: let's say the blood issue could be resolved, would you stay?

  or if 1914 doctrine was dissolved or the disfellowshipping/ shunning view changed?

  Hardline on disfellowshipped ones

  once again a hard line is being taken on shunning disfellowshipped and disassociated ones.

  perhaps this is some sort of backlash against the recent adverse dateline publicity in the us, the forthcoming pananorama programme in the uk and problems with a number of influential ones leaving the organization.

  the text below is from the august km insert and the meeting part is to be handled by a "well qualified" elder with the paragraphs being read by a "capable reader".

  generally speaking, the trust factor that most rank & file jws have for their elders is very high.

  like silent lambs post shows, most brothers take what the elders say as the last word in most matters.

  say bang, you don't know too much do you

  the church did not cave in ....they finally obeyed the law of the land, a law directed at them specifically.

  I'll admit that I didn't know that God released them from the pledge (and please excuse me for remaining suss on that one).

  So what your saying now is not that it's "better to obey man than to obey God", but rather "better for God to obey man", albeit new light.

  But hey, it was the full power of the government, right?

  this was a bi-fold leaflet given out at the uk district conventions (and only available at the dc).

  i guess the throw-away size stuff is handier to ... well, throw away).

  What should young people do? - Be wiser than serpents !

  The serpent begins by repeating God's own words : "don't go after riches" , and we identify the good advice (Indeed, has God said, 'You shall not eat from any tree...).

  Then to inject the poison; "do not be an educated professional, all they really want is money ".

  Serpent to English translates as, "We're not supposed to like money, and people who are professionals are given quite a bit of it. Instead of working hard to be a professional and helping others out by giving them the money, we'll just hate and accuse the brainy professionals instead. Nevertheless, not being able to read and write has been an obvious embarrasment in front of the world, so finish high school so you can run a small business and other people won't call us names."

  he mentioned that the jw's use to believe in the rapture of the saints, a belief commonly held by some mainstream christian sects.

  i started to wonder "why and when did they change that belief" and "what other beliefs were held by jw's that were held by other christians, but have now completely changed?

  It's great that they don't have the cross. They don't want it. The torture stake is the appropriate symbol for them to use.

  Are they open armed? Do they say that their labour (hands) are above all else? Have they not tortured the natural Christ? Does their doctrine extend much wider than their own "stake"?

  "that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge"

  Never been proven wrong?

  "The Latter-Day Saints submitted to the decrees of Congress (1904) in regard to the anti-polygamy statutes, unwittingly admitting by their submission that the divine command in the revelation of their founder and prophet, Joseph Smith, to "re-introduce plural marriage and restore the polygamous condition", either did not come from God, or for them it was better "to obey man than to obey God".

  Sometime after receiving the divine command, President Joseph F. Smith (April, 1904), endorsed by resolution and unanimous vote, officially stated. "....I hereby announce that all such marriages are prohibited...."

  So much for the divine command - please explain.

  my encounter with a jw today

  i started a new job today and there were several odd coincidences.

  my new employer and co-worker were outside in the breezeway on a smoke break when a woman meandered by (yes she was meandering) she asked very casually in passing "would you care for some bible literature today?

  " holding out a watchtower and awake as she passed.

  "Would you care for some bible literature today?" holding out a watchtower and awake as she passed. We all said no and she continued her casual pace.

  You passed up the opportunity to witness to your work colleagues.

  "That's not Bible literature is it?", would have really helped everyone out a bit.
