Facts and nothing but the facts

lets start a topic thats states the facts about wt, nwt or jw's in general.

i will start off with an easy one.

Fact: The WT society 'buys and sells' what they consider to be holy.

Fact: The WT society worships an imaginary monster.

Fact: The WT society don't do as the samaritan, but prefer to travel to far away places and make another proselyte.

Fact: The world hasn't ended, they lied (were mistaken?)

Fact: They claim divine authority without having any.

Fact: They go against heartfelt kindness to further their own ends.

Fact: They have caused much harm.

Fact: They aren't considered well my both man and God. Men think they're nutjobs for sprouting about the end of the world all the time.

Fact: They're kept bound up in the dark, while gnashing their teeth at the rest of the world, waiting for vengeance with a smile - sort of, maybe, they're not sure, what's really going on, God must love me, I've been doing what He said haven't I, see how I'm better than some others, am I, I'll look on the internet, oh shit, it was all crap, I fell into a pit, no I was pushed, what's going on?

the "blame the victim" thinking that ex-members experience is common among all victims of trauma.

in fact we live in a society that is filled with this mentality.

and we were a part of an organization that reinforced this thinking every time they blamed the rank and file for the borg's mistakes.. the effective use of mind control techniques is not dependent on a person intelligence.

It's normal to hear about "what happened to me", but I rarely if ever hear about the act of indoctrinating others, and particularly when it was done after knowing that things were amiss.

There's a difference between not really deserving any punishment and not having done anything at all wrong - in fact those who examine their response-ability naturally attract less punishment, and those who emphatically deny having response-ability attract condemnation.

With so much external input, it can be harder to be humble (i.e. the down to earth view) and accept what really is true.

what does the watchtower teach that is right.

could you please bear with me for a second here.. this organisation cant be all bad even though overall it is.. .

most of you may reluctantly hold the opinion that every thing the watchtower currently teaches isnt all bad so could you please give your honest opinions as to what you think is good about the org.. so what is there that can be said about it and its teachings that is good.. especially about prophecy.

I don't believe it!

i got reading that jw board, the one quoted in the post about fred hall.

first of all i was gaging some of it was just stupid.. then i read some other stuff and thought - god how could i have been taken in?.

i keep coming back to this over and over, i can't understand how normal thinking human beings as i was can be taken in by these lies and fantasies.

Candidate: I kinda know there is a God. He can do all this, so I'd like to know more.

Motivated facilitator: Yes your right, and you've come to the right place, we know about Him, just look at the others (scoff scoff).

Candidate: I wonder if I have to simply give up everything, and help those in need as best I can, like He said, or can I just stick with the rules and receive His favour, if they're the right rules.

Motivated facilitator: We know the rules, do as we say, He told us. Stick with us and you'll be on the right track. See how wicked everyone else is.

Candidate: Yes, your right (forgetting the basics). I'm satisfied now (I have enough).

Motivated facilitator: You see; just don't think of other things anymore, You are important, God loves You ... see?

i would like to ask ew-jws jw a question.

when you read the book crisis of conscience how instrumental was that book in getting you to leave the organisation.. i have a gf who is an active jw.... i by the way am wordly.

this religion thing is putting strain on our relationship.. she condems me for obtaining information about the watchtower from apostates or just about anyone who has something yo say about the org.

A particular complex sort of person had a conscience, and they didn't really care about others, or God's well-being either. Their soul, once spouse of the Holy Spirit, would 'cry' out to their conscience "help me against the desires of the flesh, to do what is right". For a while their conscience wouldn't, but then gave in, primarily over self concern, even the unpleasantness of the 'crying'. Now, if your unjust judge will do what's right, won't God help you to, and speedily, if you ask Him? Even so, will you then just think light of the help?

Ask her if the WT society teaches her that sort of stuff - does it affect her conscience to know they don't, can't ever - doesn't listening to her soul prompt one?

NWT translation

i have been doing a lot of research lately on jws and the new world translation.

through history, i found that king james, in 1604, ordered a commitee to accurately translate the original scriptures, from hebrew and greek, into the english language.

this took 47 people 7 years to do and thus came up with the kj bible.

During the door to door exercises, people should be told that JWs have many differences in their bible because of their superior integrity - knowledge, ability and honesty.

It might save people going any further.

years ago, i had a pet-hate bible story, and it was this one story that actually started me on the path to freedom from the borg-org.. it was the story of lot when he was living in sodom and the 2 angels visited (dressed like men of course).

and the crowd of sodomites were yelling "send out the visitors so we can bonk them senseless".

Hi. My background? Not a JW, not now, before or ever. Close relatives were abused by them, not within their religion, but actually abused. I find that I can be quite indignant at everything they stand for; that their study and learning is the epitome of what is dark and in the dark - the ways of modern day pharisees.

A bit caustic? Well, maybe; I often try not to talk down at people, but when it comes to JWism I can be up-set, and it's particularly upsetting to see how people have moved on from the org. but remain in the same mind-set, unspiritual, even afraid or defensive of teachings.

The JWs here are referred to as jovies, de-scribing a smiling people interested in fine things for their own, but about others they couldn't really give a shit; in fact, a personal gain stemming from hating, lying, or shunning etc. is welcome.

waiting, the red tent is a modern romance/drama story, maybe good for teaching but simply not the history of Dinah.

And pope, if you're 'not of this world' you'd know your children were going to be ok.

And tyydyy, didn't the JWs ever acknowledge that Jesus descended into hell? For some people, Easter Saturday is perhaps the most holy day they know, important to revelation of the paschal mystery.

No wonder people end up as Jdubs,

Check the Lot story Pope, did it ever occur to you that the men seemed like unfortunate street bums. "No; we will spend the night in the street". Lot took them into his care (as could have anyone in the city) and so couldn't allow them to be taken to harm. Jdubs are waiting on angels that are mighty in Their eyes, world destroying and all. The angels are already here. They're the underpriveleged, the poor, the oppressed, etc. They're sorting out the sheep from the goats everyday.

And tyydyy, the Jonah story, Jonah was pissed that God didn't destroy the Ninevites because that's what he understood was going to happen. Try and tell devout dubs that God changed His mind (Jonah 3:10); I've seen some pretty pissed looks from them too. It's a teaching story, like a parable. The Jonah story tells of the dark night of the soul, about Jesus descending to hell. I don't think that the WT society understand along those lines.

"The Red Tent" is a modern fiction, and I can't recall 'Jehovah' approving vengeance over Dinah.

And for the Philistines, the foreskins were about conversion.

The fig tree would be better for other use.
