Jesus was an apostate of the Jewish religion.
I am an apostate of the Wacktower religion.
Monkey see monkey do.
what i learned/derived from steven lett's dc talk (thanks again, ynot, for providing access to the .mp3 files!).
brother lett - or the committee that produced the talk - really loves food metaphors.well-dressed people, especially children, produce a good witness.if you're an apostate, chances are bad conduct/secret sin/moral depravity made you that way.
apostasy is usually founded on sin and rarely on conviction.the bible is an insufficient - or overly cumbersome - guide to godly conduct.

Jesus knew that his followers would face hatred from unbelieving relatives
The only hatred that happens is the hatred of the JW towards the unbeliever of the WTS.
No one enjoys being accused of something he has not said or done.

having an increased share in the preaching work. That will likely produce in us a deep happiness.
Yes, yes the preaching work, the panacea to all mankinds problems.
JW's look so miserable because their happiness is sooooo deeeeep. LOL
Thanks blondie
this is actually wt's real name.
wt has become actually a social club and nothing more.
jws are in a "religious" club with activities that includes picnics, staying in hotels(assembley) going out for leasure, excursions in the "holy land- brooklyn".
Definitely a social club for older retired dubs.
My parents and my inlaws and other older relatives wouldn't know what to do with themselves without the meetings.
Dinners, cute babies, respect as an older faithful one, family members are usually there, and all the friends, oh boy, oh boy!
I think they are actually disappointed the book study was consolidated.
They are clueless as far as the bible and the jw doctrine mix.
Hey, who cares the fds tell us everything we need to know.
a close relative recently called me verbatim, "a bad, bad, bad apostate and a sinner against the holy spirit" .. the apostate remark didn't bother me, actually it's a compliment when you think about it.. saying i was a "sinner against the holy spirit" that did bother me.
this got me to wondering about all the names, accusations and labels given to people who don't want to be a jw anymore.. doing a quick search in the insight books i came up with a list.. apostates pg.126, antichrist pg.116, man of lawlessnes pg.

Honesty
Those who fight Jehovah’s visible organization, upon which his spirit is manifest, sin against the holy spirit, unforgivably so.
That's just f'ed up !
Mainstream Christianity teaches that the Pharisees attributed Jesus' healing to Satan's power rather than to the Holy spirit.
The unforgiveable sin was - attributing to Satan Christ's authenticating miracles done in the the power of the Holy Spirit.
Makes sense to me.
22 Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see. 23 All the people were astonished and said, "Could this be the Son of David?"
24 But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, "It is only by Beelzebub, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons."
25 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. 26 If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? 27 And if I drive out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. 28 But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
29 "Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man's house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can rob his house.
30 "He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters. 31 And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.
33 "Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36 But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned."
Mark 3
20 Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. 21 When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, "He is out of his mind."
22 And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said, "He is possessed by Beelzebub ! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons."
23 So Jesus called them and spoke to them in parables: "How can Satan drive out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26 And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. 27 In fact, no one can enter a strong man's house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can rob his house. 28 I tell you the truth, all the sins and blasphemies of men will be forgiven them. 29 But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin."
30 He said this because they were saying, "He has an evil spirit."

those of us who leave for reasons of conscience
I don't think I've ever heard this given as the reason for a disfellowshipping, but yet there are many out there who have done this.

If you don't like being a JW just leave....
And yep, just walk away, stop going is the best idea. Don't argue, dont' justify, don't debate. Dont play by their fucked up rules, they're all stacked against you. Just leave and ignore all the hoorah. If you can.
This is what I did. However the harrasment never ends because of family, and who wants to have their name dragged threw the mud with all these derogatory stereotypes the WT gives anyone who leaves. It's just another tactic the WT uses to keep people from jumping ship.
The Dandroid
Surely if you cant marry at 15, you shouldnt be allowed to get baptized into something that will ultimately affect the rest of your life?
Welcome to the board The Dandroid
Excellent point, I remember reading or hearing from the WT that baptism is the most important decision of your life.
Guess that's why Jesus waited till he was 30.

If you're thinking of becoming a JW,
these are some of the labels you will receive if you ever decide to not be one.
btw I'm not even disfellowshipped. I simply stopped practicing being a JW.
i've been away from jwd for a month or so.
i've just been busy in life and am trying to rebuild, or should i say, make new friendships but it is slow-going.
missinglink and i haven't been to any meetings since april and have no plans in going back.
I'm not good association......
Me either....been there done that life goes on.
My jaydubeeya relatives favorite thing to say when they shun us is,
we are trying to do better, we want to do what Jehovah wants.
sick-o's
i was pmed this excerpt from the final talk by r. clark at the new york special assembly day by a newbie whom i will keep anonymous for confidentiality purposes.
it is full of spin control, and damage control which shows how nervous the watchtower society is getting about " negative talk ", " independent thinking", and " internet use " by the rank and file jehovah's witness members.
title of the talk : .
The faithful and discreet slave does extensive research on every article , so we have good reason to trust them, just as Jesus trusts them.
Hey, if the fds is good enough for Jesus who are we to argue. LOL LOL
Chief Joseph
On a visit to Washington, D.C., 1879
At last I was granted permission to come to Washington and bring my friend Yellow Bull and our interpreter with me. I am glad I came. I have shaken hands with a good many friends, but there are some things I want to know which no one seems able to explain. I cannot understand how the Government sends a man out to fight us, as it did General Miles, and then breaks his word. Such a government has something wrong about it. I cannot understand why so many chiefs are allowed to talk so many different ways, and promise so many different things. I have seen the Great Father Chief [President Hayes]; the Next Great Chief [Secretary of the Interior]; the Commissioner Chief; the Law Chief; and many other law chiefs [Congressmen] and they all say they are my friends, and that I shall have justice, but while all their mouths talk right I do not understand why nothing is done for my people. I have heard talk and talk but nothing is done. Good words do not last long unless they amount to something. Words do not pay for my dead people. They do not pay for my country now overrun by white men. They do not protect my father's grave. They do not pay for my horses and cattle. Good words do not give me back my children. Good words will not make good the promise of your war chief, General Miles. Good words will not give my people a home where they can live in peace and take care of themselves. I am tired of talk that comes to nothing. It makes my heart sick when I remember all the good words and all the broken promises. There has been too much talking by men who had no right to talk. Too many misinterpretations have been made; too many misunderstandings have come up between the white men and the Indians. If the white man wants to live in peace with the Indian he can live in peace. There need be no trouble. Treat all men alike. Give them the same laws. Give them all an even chance to live and grow. All men were made by that any man who was born a free man should be contented penned up and denied liberty to go where he pleases. If you tie a horse to a stake, do you expect he will grow fat? If you pen an Indian up on a small spot of earth and compel him to stay there, he will not be contented nor will he grow and prosper. I have asked some of the Great White Chiefs where they get their authority to say to the Indian that he shall stay in one place, while he sees white men going where they please. They cannot tell me.
I only ask of the Government to be treated as all other men are treated. If I cannot go to my own home, let me have a home in a country where my people will not die so fast. I would like to go to Bitter Root Valley. There my people would be happy; where they are now they are dying. Three have died since I left my camp to come to Washington.
When I think of our condition, my heart is heavy. I see men of my own race treated as outlaws and driven from country to country, or shot down like animals.
I know that my race must change. We cannot hold our own with the white men as we are. We only ask an even chance to live as other men live. We ask to be recognized as men. We ask that the same law shall work alike on all men. If an Indian breaks the law, punish him by the law. If a white man breaks the law, punish him also.
Let me be a free man, free to travel, free to stop, free to work, free to trade where I choose, free to choose my own teachers, free to follow the religion of my fathers, free to talk, think and act for myself -- and I will obey every law or submit to the penalty.
Whenever the white man treats the Indian as they treat each other then we shall have no more wars. We shall be all alike -- brothers of one father and mother, with one sky above us and one country around us and one government for all. Then the Great Spirit Chief who rules above will smile upon this land and send rain to wash out the bloody spots made by brothers' hands upon the face of the earth. For this time the Indian race is waiting and praying. I hope no more groans of wounded men and women will ever go to the ear of the Great Spirit Chief above, and that all people may be one people.

this is my take on the whole inherited sin thing:.
let's say your parents committed a crime and were sentenced to life in prison, let's say 140 years.
now, they died 90 years short of their sentence.
