Golden Age Goodies

recently i had the pleasure to examine a stash of 1920s and 1930s golden age magazines, among the rarest of watchtower publications.

i thought it would be a fun idea to have a thread in which i share with you some of the amazing, ridiculous, hilarious things contained therein.

hence, this is the first post of a series of excerpts, scans, etc.

Thought I'd throw this in.

My son had his appendix removed a few years back ther were two operations and there were complications he spent 17 days in the hospital, simple procedure turned into a fiasco.

Only reason I'm bringing this up is after it was all over and we got back to normal. I found this gem, I sent the article to my mom and she said (get ready for this she's 75 years old) boy it's to bad you didn't find that sooner you wouldn't have had to go through all that.

I'm not kidding!

It is known that only about three out of every one hundred operated upon for appendicitis really have a diseased appendix needing removal. We give below a simple cure for appendicitis symptoms. The pain in the appendix region is caused by the biting of worms near the junction of the transverse colon with the small intestines, low down on the right side of the abdomen. This remedy is recommended also for typhoid fever, which is also a worm disease. The medicine is Santonine dose, 3 grains, an hour before breakfast; repeated for four mornings, or until all the symptoms disappear. Then one dose per month for three months to eradicate all germs. This recipe is of INCALCULABLE VALUE. Not only will it save the surgeon’s and hospital fees of perhaps $200, but it saves weeks of ill health, inconvenience, convalescence and loss of salary.

Appendicitis: Take one ounce each of elder blossom, peppermint and yarrow and simmer in three pints of water .. take a wineglassful every fifteen minutes.. Do not be afraid of the perspiration caused, or if you vomit. You will be better off with an empty stomach.

What are the most insincere things JWs say?

it really makes me angry when they say i love jehovah.

they don't know what they are talking about.

if they read with an open mind the carry-ons of this cruel mesopotanian god they would feel ridiculous and embarrassed for putting this god before their family, their children.

The applause would at least get your blood flowing again. BTW why did we need to applaud for the public talk but nothing else?

We love all of mankind so much that is why were doing this work.

reading this scripture was important to my original willingness a couple of years ago to reconsider my religion.... john said to him: teacher, we saw a certain man expelling demons by the use of your name and we tried to prevent him, because he was not accompanying us.

I hate how they brag about themselves, the whole article is one big back slapping aren't we great festival.

I noticed anymore they seem to brag more about the number of cong. then the number of publishers, I wonder why?

Rev 19 :11 The context shows this is Jesus returning as warior, messiah, king.

Rev.6:2 I don't think the context and sequence of the horses indicates Jesus as the rider

why isn't there a record of annointed ones through history?

why weren't they preaching and teaching jehovah's kingdom and all that.

In the Rev. book there are pics of some of the supposed historical annointed.

Does anyone have an idea who they are supposed to represent.

The rider of the white horse held a bow and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest. Notice it doesn't say he had arrows. the WTBS illustrations show him with arrows. Why does the rider of the white horse need to be someone we know none of the other riders are? I think the horse and rider simply picture the spirit of conquest.

If there is, was an unbroken line of JW annointed isn't this the same as the Apostolic succession they condemn the Catholics for?
