  I told someone that the JWs were a cult

  don't know how to start this... the other day, i was at work talking to the fellas there.. somehow they mentioned 'cults' - and i blurted out something like "jehovah's witnesses are also a cult.".

  they quickly said "don't let p**** hear you say that.

  he's a jehovah's witness.".

  Is Global Warming a Myth?

  i've been reading about global warming recently and to be honest its getting more confusing by the minute.. some say there is so much evidence that it is caused by humans (burning of fossil fuels etc) but some say that it is a natural cycle that we shouldn't worry about.. http://www.junkscience.com/news/robinson.htm.

  what is the truth?

  ...plants take in carbon dioxide and water and, with the help of a little sunshine, convert them into complex carbon compounds - that we either eat, build with or just admire - and oxygen, which just happens to keep the rest of the planet alive.

  Ok, now add the fact the the world is depleting it's forests at an alarming rate. The Rain Forests in S. America are being deforested at an estimated 1-1/2 acres per second for timber, mineral, metal, and big oil exploitation. Rain Forests in the congo, and elsewhere throughout the world are being raped equivellantly (sp).

  The Amazon Rainforest has been described as the "Lungs of our Planet" because it provides the essential environmental world service of continuously recyling carbon dioxide into oxygen. More than 20 percent of the world oxygen is produced in the Amazon Rainforest.

  So, what if our oxygen producing capacity is greatly depleted, then what happens to this excess CO2?

  All of this stuff ties together. Wild salmon runs, spotted owl, cheetahs, florida panther, Hawaiian crows, Global Warming, Rainforest deforestation. Each a symptom.

  Mom earth is very capable of recovering. Mt. St. Helens has shown scientists/biologists how the earth can recover from extreme devastation.

  Kevan (spousal unit) sez "the solution to polution is dilution". That's all fine and dandy, until we run out of the ability to dilute or convert.

  Ok. I'll step down off my soapbox (for now).

  Need Help: Braun or Sonicare?

  ok...i got some bad news from the dentist...and am in dental "therapy".....lol...they highly recommend the sonicare line, but i am so confused.

  anybody out there have a good powered toothbrush they would recommend?

  i am deciding between the two below: .

  I love my Sonicare!

  I used one 8 years ago but had to leave it behind with that husband, and really missed it. I couldn't afford one myself. Kev (spousal unit) bought us one last Christmas. He doesnt' like it cuz it tickles. I love it.

  Tip, spread your toothpaste around before you turn it on. Keep your mouth closed or you'll spatter.

  It still doesn't replace flossing. And I HATE flossing. And I have to floss because of a crown that likes to trap food. My hygenist says "you only have to floss the ones you want to keep". She's lucky I like her.

  There is so much about earth's long-range natural cycles that scientists can only guess about. They've just learned about El Nino in the past 20 years after a devestating cycle in the 80's. And it cycles every 7-10 years!

  I personally believe that Global Warming is probably 2-fold: A natural cycle, and aggrivated by man. As so many other natural occurances that have been influenced by man, including species extinction.

  Are we going to suddenly see tidal waves or storm surges washing over and burying Manhattan? Not likely. The process is much slower than that.

  A couple years ago we did see the largest ice floe in recordable history break off of Antartica! World wide, glaciers are receding at an unprecidented rate (hence the discovery of the iceage man in Europe).

  Locally, here in Portland, we used to get a week or two of snowfall annually. 2-3 inches, a couple times during the winter. this has become more and more rare. We actually had 5" of snow that stayed around for a week this last winter. I loved it!

  Just because there is a "normal" and "natural" aspect to global warming, and other world issues, doesn't mean we shouldn't stop doing our best to treat the earth with respect. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Buy Recycled. Purchase fuel efficient vehicles. Plan and combine your errands so that you're not running to the store just because. And so on, ad nauseum.

  Christopher Reeves Dies...

  i was just watching some television show and they were advertising a movie directed by christopher reeves about a young girl that was paralyzed, and overcame many obstacles.

  i thought that was just awesome that he had directed a movie.

  then i got a mail on cnn breaking news that he had died... how very very awful.... <sob>`superman' star christopher reeve dies .

  It was the first thing I saw on Yahoo headlines.

  I was so impressed by him. He worked so hard with his injuries and disability to prove they weren't permanant. He was an awesome person and will be greatly missed, especially by the spinal cord injured and medical people. He gave hope where there was dispare.

  Unfortunately, I understand his thinking....

  I blamed my 1st husband - who, when I married him was a good JW, albeit from a family rather looked down upon by his congregation. I soon found out why. His alcoholism was developing, and he also developed into a wife abuser, just like his (late) father.

  Since I have alcoholism genetic propensity, I drank right along with him, and my alcoholism kicked in. When I was finally able to leave (after a couple rounds of russian roulette) I blamed him for my disease. It took another 8 years to own it myself and get treatment.

  It's always the "easier softer way" to blame someone else. "The devil made me do it." But I learned when one finger points, there are three pointing back.

  I hope this guy applies himself to the help he is getting.

  Years ago when I did my AA thing of making amends with my parents, my dad brought up what I would do if WBTS was right and Armageddon happened (or some such thing).

  I told my dad that I would stand before Jehovah and be judged accordingly for my deeds, both bad and good.

  (I still stand by this today. IF they're right.)

  That was the second of only two times I saw my dad speechless. The first time was earlier in the same conversation when discussing my alcohlism as being a physiological and progressive disease, not a moral problem. I likened my body not processing alcohol normally just as his body does not process sugar normally (he's diabetic).

  jw's have got to be wondering why there hardly any new jw books coming out anymore.and most of the newer ones are just edited versions of old books.
