  ellen white, who founded it.

  It should be noted that there is a tremendous difference in theology between the historic Adventists of which are quite cultic and the progressive Adventists. Even though both groups attent the same church each group have there own separate ministries. The progressive Adventists are supported by the scholars and the younger generation.

  Im the SDA on this site smellsgood is mostly right about the church. Just a correction though only about 20% are vegetarian.

  The worst doctrine in the SDA church is the investigative Judgement doctrine that sprung from the events of 1844 and in a nutshell promotes the doctrine of perfectionism of which a large sector of the church promotes. Perfectionism flys in the face of the gospel and denies the full forgivemess our lord gives of past present and future sin the gospel of grace gives to the sinner. Barry

  with the british pound now 2:1 against the us dollar will any brits here be vacationing in the us to take advantage of the exchange.

  We once had the Pound,Quid and someone came up with the idear it was far too complicated because 1 pound was 20 shillings and there were 12 pennys in each shilling. We would go to the shop and get something for 1pound 18 shillings and 11pence. Image adding it all up. To make a long story short we were given 2 dollars for every pound and each dollar had 100cents.

  But yea the usd is down I just wonder when it will be on par with the aust dollar could be not far off.

  when a birthday is a birthday

  my sister had a baby recently and on the day she was born they whole jw community come to the hospital gave presents cards balloons flowers all on her real birthday i pointed this out to them they were celebrating the childs birthday and as usual they pointed the finger at me and my warped thinking my mother went so far as to say that i needed professional help.

  so is the day a child is born a birthday and as such should jws celebrate it.

  Shure Miller had 15 proofs that Christ would come in 1843-4 but it was somehow beleived that 15 weak positions somehow = 1 strong position. There is a book going around around Adventist circles called 'The end of Historisism' by Kai Arisole an Adventist leader in finland. It is causing Adventists to rethink these old 19th century positions on exergesis.

  I dont feel one incident is enough to judge a whole world wde religion but here in Australia a week doesnt go by without some sick problem in the Muslim religion. I was going to put on this post about the Muslim women being raped for reading the Bible but then its already posted here. Doesnt matter Ill just tell you about a sheik from Sydney made a series called the 'Death series' . As mentioned in this weeks newspaper he promotes Jihad and the killing of non Muslims and he also referres to Jews as pigs.

  My message to these sick people is to STOP THE HATE

  i was df'd in 1976 and lived my whole life thinking the jws have the truth and i just could not live up to the standard and was doomed to die at the big a without question.

  unlike all other religions including jews, mormons, and sda, there is only one jw movement.

  indivuduals that leave the wts cannot organize another jw like religion.

  i think that another jw religion would get the wts very angry.

  A group of Jws breaking off and forming a sect would have little impact on the WT Society as a whole.

  What needs to happen is the sect needs to be formed among card holding JWs themselves. If IT was possible for Ray Franz to get a following inside the WT society so a large number of JWs would follow his opinions this would have the effect of forcing the WT society to accomodate their opinions or be faced with a large split in the JW religion.

  This is precicely how other churches work and is a good thing because it keeps everyone honest and tolerant of others. In the SDAs my own church there are traditional Adventists , Evengelical Adventists , Liberals just to name a few and all are accepted .

  The WT society will eventially evolve into a more reasonable institution.

  the watchtower claims speaking in tongues was restricted to the first century, though it seems quite clear that this was something to be practiced in the last days.

  should christians today speak in tongues and what exactly is it?

  i am wondering about the reasoning as some christian religions practice it and others don't.

  Gday again jwfacts,

  Im not an Ellen White fan I think I may have one of her books and that was given to me.

  It is widely known even in Adventist circles Ellen White plagurised from other writers most of which she claimed to write. In some ways this was a blessing because the result was that Adventism remained with the basic doctrins of the christian church because of the plagurism of other christian writers

  I remember a few years ago at an afternoon meeting by a high church official who was trying his best to put a good word in for Ellen White. The meeting was being recorded and when I piped up with some negative opinions of Ellen White and her ministry all hell broke loose. 'Stop the recording ', he yelled and then he went to advise me to talk to my minister.

  Ellen white did have an ability to hold the church together during its formative years and at the same time not become a cult leader as Josheph Smith has become in the Mormon Church. Her theme allways was to uphold Christ.at the same time She has made serious errors in judgement. Barry
