Here's the part that doesn't seem right to me.

"This date corresponds to Nisan 14, which was when Jesus held the last valid Passover."

In Matthew 24 Jesus tells us when the "end of the age" and the destruction of the temple will be. Until the end of the age and the destruction of the temple all Passovers were valid.

Read Hebrews 8:13 "...ready to vanish away" Something that is ready to vanish away has not yet vanished away. And did not vanish away until the destruction of the temple in 70AD.

How to get baptised properly....

who today is elegible to baptise others?

i want to get baptised.

but i don't know who is doing it properly now a days.. i thought the jdubs were the correct baptisers, but research showed that the jdubs baptise you to an organization, not to god.. i hated the questions, the time period it took to qualify and the whole bunch of crap.. .

I need some scriptual skill Here (what is the good news?)

please give me scriptures as to what the 1st century christians were two preach including the body of christian teachings at the time.

then we can compare that to what gb says the good news is and why one must answer 80 or so questions.

it will also help me with the ability to prove why i do not wish to be in the door to door work including any scriptual proofs that could be used to show not all should be preaching..

the article states that jesus never said there would be an increase in earthquakes, but that they would be "great" earthquakes in one place after the other...like we have seen lately.

this is quite a change with the wts' obsession of trying to prove that since 1914 there has been a significant increase in the number of occurances,comparing fictious numbers from the time of jc until 1914 and from 1914 until today!

The Disciples asked for a sign about the end of the age.

You have to ask youself, what age were they living in at that time?

70AD marked the end of the Old Covenant age.

Hebrews 8:13 13 "By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear."

If the old covenant "will soon disappear" that means it's still in place as of the writing of Hebrews.

Jesus said that some of the people there with his at the time would still be alive when the end comes.

And some of the people that were with Jesus at that time were still alive in 70AD.

So there you go.

Taking Back the Payment for Sins?

it's my understanding that the wts teaches that jesus couldn't have been resurrected in a physical body because that would be taking back the payment made by the ransom sacrifice.. it's also my understanding that the wts teaches that people who are not of the 144,000 are not born again and are not under the new covenant.. so how is their sin paid for?

by their own deaths, right?

We were therefore buried with him through baptism

For we know that our old self was crucified with him

Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him

For he that is dead (buried, crucified and died with Christ) is freed from sin.

The passage is NOT talking about physical death.

It's taking about those baptized in Christ.

Nothere in the bible can I find any other way to be saved but to be baptized.

To have the old man be buried, crucified and die with Christ so that we may be a new creature.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: [ a ] The old has gone, the new is here!

Galatians 6:15 15 Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is the new creation.

False Prophets or Just Poor Interpreters?

They stated many many times that it is the Creator's promise that the generation that saw the events of 1914 would not pass away until there is a new world.

"Was Jesus using the word 'generation' in a symbolic way? No, we should not say that the word “generation” here has a symbolic meaning....The “generation” of Matthew 24:34 includes persons alive at the time that the war in heaven began in 1914....Members of that generation will see the end of this world” (Awake!, September 22, 1962, p.27).

Every two weeks for almost 5 43 years — from 1952 to 1995 — the Watchtower Society’s “Awake!” magazine’s masthead use to read,

“Why Awake is Published— Awake is for the enlightenment of the entire family... Most important, this magazine builds confidence in the Creator’s promise of a peaceful and secure new world before the generation that saw the events of 1914 passes away” (Awake!, October 22, 1995).

That sounds like a false prophecy, in the name of God, to me.

If the writer didn't mean worship then why did he say worship?

The same root word, Proskun, is used for worship of both Christ and God in the NT.

i was exposed to a mildly apocalyptic atmosphere within evangelicalism, and i really appreciate gary's thoughts on matthew 24. i hope it will be of interest to some of you to hear a completely different perspective.

I think it's the right one.

Look at what Christ said to the scribes and Pharisees in Matthew 23:36

Also the disciples ask in Matthew 24:3 about when the "close of the age".

Look at Hebrews 8:13, it is clear that the age of the Jews was still not over. The disciples were living in the age of the Jews not the age we are now in.

Also the disciples ask when Christ presence would be. Christ was standing right there with them. They were not asking about his second coming. They were asking about his first coming (parousias-presence).

All of these things happened in A.D. 70
