Did Charles Russell know that certain christmas traditions were pagan?

this is a question that has been on my mind lately because i believe it can make an impact on those 'honest hearted' ones who wonder why the watchtower today is so different than the one led by russell and yet russell can still be considered a brother in good standing.. jehovah's witnesses today acknowledge that the watchtower use to celebrate christmas but as they were being led 'out of the darkness' they changed their ways.

i did some research and it is clear in the old zion's watchtower magazines that russell knew that december 25th was not jesus' birthday but instead it was the time of his conception.

in one article, it even stated that jesus was born september 25 (nine months later) while in another article it stated that jesus was born on october 1st.. what's not clear, however, is whether or not old chuck knew that the traditions were pagan.

Yes, I think the last JW Christmas tree was in 1925 (or 26)

1st evidence: the release of loyal jews from exile, made possible by the fall of babylon, foreshadowed the release in 1919 of anointed christians from spiritual exile.

2nd evidence: that year marked the beginning of the period when the anointed remnants were released from a form of spiritual captivity to the ideas and practices of false religion.

although having rejected such false teachings as the trinity and the immortal soul, they were still tainted by babylonish practices.

That is incorrect.

1914 was to be the end of Armageddon. Look it up and get your facts straight.

1874 was taught as Christ's second presence until 1929, so again you have your facts wrong.

"shaken in the spiritual realm" is a long way from the end of the great tribulation and the begining of the 1000 year reign.

It's hard to take you seriously when you make such major factual mistakes.

LeavingWT: Why Never Discuss Doctrine?

among the various helpful pieces of advice i have read here from leavingwt, i have noticed that he often tells people to never discuss doctrine with a jw.

i realize that discussing doctrine with a jw can be very frustrating, but i was wondering if there is a more far-reaching and less-obvious reason for this advice.

like is it related to some peculiar aspect of the jw mind that the average person would not be aware of?.

Because they care nothing about doctrine.

If they did they would not be JW's. The WTS has change important doctrines over and over again but it doesn't seem bother the JW.

To a JW, God is guiding and using the WTS as His only mouthpiece on earth. The light gets brighter. Wait on God.

It doesn't matter if what we are teaching today is wrong, God will correct it in time. Stay in union with the FDS or you will be lost.

It's not correct doctrine that saves but association with the FDS.

They have no understanding of grace, faith or freedom in Christ. It a crying shame. :-(
