i guess that out of common courtesy, i will provide a copy of my disassociation letter to my mother, however, it is nothing more than a baptism nullification / gag order / i'll sue all of you letter.
its not one of those lengthy numbers that some have chosen to write.
RR: I could just cry when I think about how cruel it is that you feel it necessary to have strangers tell your own mother what a wonderful human you are. It is like having to send a resume with references to your own mother in the hopes that she will come to her senses, see what she is losing and not disown you.
I would be more than willing to compose a letter to your mother about you.

i thought i would share this with you as i am still a little bit stunned to say the least.
my mother who is a longstanding jw came to stay over the christmas period as my uncle had past away and she wanted to be more local to the family, that way she could attend the funeral and provide some support to her remaining brothers and sisters.
she lives a considerable distance away from me at this moment in time.
Wow DB, thanks for sharing that story. I loved how you highlighted the fact that you have not turned against God and asked her to show you the biblical principle for apostasy. Also, the fact that asking questions should not deem you an apostate is so true. Disagreeing with certain actions on the part of a multi-billion dollar corporation and asking them to be accountable for their actions, is NOT apostasy.
I wish my mother would even entertain the notion that it is ok to ask questions, discuss, debate, religion. You are fortunate that she listened enough to allow a crack to open in her "the WTBS says so, so it is so" armour. Also, sounds like you made good ground in gently helping her to see that they are not tantamount to God himself, in fact, just another manmade religion. You did this by letting her come to her own conclusions. Very respectful DB.

You say that you do not deserve your husband, you obviously enjoyed the flattering nature of having someone want you. I think you enjoy having your ego stroked and thinking you do not deserve your husband shows some esteem issues. Looking outside of yourself to boost your self esteem or self worth is dangerous, superficial, and temporary.
Look at yourself and WHY you are enjoying his attention so much. Don't be addicted to the initial high that "falling in love" gives and look at what "being in love" really means. Strip away the fallacies of 'what love should feel like, look like, act like' and live in reality. The chances are that if you left your current husband and got with this other guy, the second relationship would slowly evolve into what the first relationship looked like because YOU create your own reality therefore you would create an environment that would support your emotional addictions.

You know, after I got thinking about it, this man spent about 16 years with me, knew me well and how much I enjoy living, how much I love my kids, etc. It shows how quickly this disappears, how much of a facade it all was, just the fact that he can relish, rub his hands together with gleeful anticipation at my coming murder.....the coldness that is encouraged, allowed, supported just blows my mind now.

I could not stop laughing...it was the funniest, most simplistic parental plan I heard in a long time. He angrily and righteously says, "Oh, you may be laughing now, but...(pause for emphasis)...soon...(pause)..you won't be." I hung up on him, still laughing.
See, here it is folks, they SAY they don't think they are superior to anyone, they SAY they don't gloat at the impending destruction of others, they SAY they don't know who will be destroyed and who won't...BUT when push comes to shove, they say how they really feel.

That is what I think most JWs will say. I feel sorry for all the people here that thought that the news was SOOO huge, that it would immediately send their estranged families running straight into their open arms. I am just shaking my head in wonderment about WHY someone would purposely give such hope to such hurting people and then offer an essay that has, at best, implications for a minority as well as loooooong term implications. Do you know how long a court case about this, if one ever comes about, could take??

Very very enjoyable read. Your story is part of the reason that the society discourages university. It teaches you to not blindly accept, to support what you are saying, to not generalize, etc. When the society's teachings start to crumble, it is like a house of cards, the whole thing collapes.
The more you dig, the more you find, hence the reason that people are encouraged to "wait on Jehovah", "trust the brothers leading you", "do not talk to 'apostates'", in other words while they say 'make the truth your own', they don't really mean it because if you do have doubts and research those doubts, they want to dictate HOW and WHERE and to WHOM you are allowed to talk to, and what you are allowed to READ, to conduct that research. Can you imagine doing research for an essay where the professor gives you those kinds of restrictions?
