Am I under or over?
i had the opportunity to have a discussion with an elder the other day.
we were both in a public place and we started to talk.
he was depressed because one of his teens is now df'ed.
I left something out of this story, but now feel like I want to share it.
This elder has been on the stage at assemblies in the past recounting his experience with one of his kids. His child was born very premature, and they refused blood, the child lived, but barely. Very horrible and touching story about what this family went through. This child is the apple of his eye, so I could not resist saying to him during this conversation,
"God forbid, but what XXXX had died from not you not allowing a blood transfusion and now XX years later, you find out that you COULD have allowed potentially life saving blood fractions to be given to XXXX!"
He didn't say a word
"Oh well, no use thinking about 'what-ifs' eh!" I said to end the conversation.

once at our local kh, the families were told if they needed to 'spank' their children they needed to do it inside the hall for now on and not take the child outside.
apparently, some neighbors reported one of the mothers for child abuse and called up the hall and told the elders that if they see it again they will call the police.. .
by no shocker the mother was still able to keep her baby...
I was shocked when I went to a church for the first time and they asked all the little children ages 2-8 to come up to the stage. He told them, "Jesus loves you and so does this congregation. Thank you for being here today." The 'care-givers' ( teenagers from the congregation, they would rotate) would come up and take them downstairs for their Sunday school. They would draw, read stories, bake, basically age appropriate ways to teach them LOVE, UNDERSTANDING, KINDNESS, COMPASSION etc.
Then the 8-10 year olds were invited up to the stage, same thing.
They didn't HAVE to leave, but if they wanted to, they had a place to go.
If I ever saw someone dragging their kid down to the basement of a KH, I would go after them now and not let it happen.

lol, sometimes I read what everyone says about 'planting a seed' and for once, that was not on my mind when I talked to him. I was just being normal me.
I don't care if they choose to be a JW or not, I just want them to live THIS LIFE happily and satisfied, but with knowledge that this is just another religion, not "the one and only truth", just a choice.
I feel the most pain when I hear of young ones making a choice, and being punished for it. That is not fair. I really don't think that most JWs think about their lives as 'choices' rather, go along to get along, or born into it.
Later and thanks for the nice comments back.

I had the opportunity to have a discussion with an elder the other day. We were both in a public place and we started to talk. He was depressed because one of his teens is now df'ed. I told him to tell him hi for me and that I would be happy to talk to him anytime. I smiled and said, "It's not the end of the world." He smiled back and said, "not yet" I said, "XXXX, I don't like like that anymore, I live each day for what it offers me, whatever happens in the future is out of my hands, I never think of 'end of the world' anymore and I can't imagine what it is like to think of that everyday."
He smiled again and said nothing. I told him that I had read a disturbing article about the blood issue, and are JWs allowed to take blood now?
"No, I have heard nothing." ???
"I read an article about how JWs can take blood fractions, (etc, I explained what it said)"
"Well, as technology improves, they are able to extract blood parts that we can use."
"So, can we take an organ transplant?"
"That is a matter of conscience"
"But an organ transplant allows in more foreign wbc than a blood transfusion does!"
"I know."
"Hmmmm, it must be confusing for everyone."
"it is"
"Well, heres to hoping we never have to deal with the blood issue"
"I agree"
Seems to be some serious confusion and let down within. He was sad and had a 'plow ahead no matter what' attitude. I had a very good discussion with him though and really felt sorry for him.

my friend gave an article out her local little newspaper entitled in huge print, "blood ban of jehovah's witnesses is more complex than many realize.
" by richard n. ostling .

hey everyone,.
my name is joe.
i've been a lurker for a while and just registered today.
I am touched by your story. I felt the same when I was df'ed, but now, 4 years later, I look at the world so differently. I feel so in tune with the balance of everything in this world. I don't feel lost, I feel found.
Sometimes I talk to JWs that whisper to me that the end is sooo close and I just can't say anything short of my mouth almost dropping open at their simplistic explanation to life, the solutions to mankinds problems, their inablility to look inside of themselves for answers, to be proactive in making NOW better, their 'waiting' to me seems like hell on earth.

I am not sure if the exact same article is the one for release that has already been posted here, but it starts out,
"Jehovah's Witnesses are renowned for teaching that Jesus Christi s not God and that the world as we know it will soon end. But another unusual belief causes even more entanglements-namely, that God forbids blood transfusions even when patients' lives are at stake." Amazing read.
It was put in on Jan 31, 2006 in the Cranbrook British Columbia newspaper!
