We must remember that the Watchtower Bible and Tract society is a "publishing" company first and a religion second so any big announcment is most likely going to be the release of some sort of printed material full of "new light".

I wanted so badly to make a bonfire, alas I ended up just leaving them to my Mom and StepDad who were still JW's at the time when I decided the best way to close that chapter in life was to move far far away. Although my dream bonfire never happened, during my rebelious teens I did have the satisfaction of ripping a Live Forever Book to shreds. For some strange reason I did hold onto a Bible and a song book for a couple of years, discovered them in a box during a move I had a laugh and pitched them in an apartment complex dumpster.

if an atheist does something good...
by DannyBloem in.
if an atheist leads good life with high moral standards, because he choice to do so and thinks for logic it is a good thing, does it not mean much more then when a theist does the same, because his gods tells him to do it?
what's your thoughs on this?

Pranks
by Wordly Andre in.
anyone have any good pranks or jokes that they played on jw or even non-jw?.

I don't know if you could call it a prank, and it's not exactly JW related, but it happened circa during the time of my JW association so I will relate the tale.
I was a junior in high school and my JW mother would not bake a cake when it was my turn to take a cake to a school basketball game for the junior class cake raffle. I had to take matters into my own hands so I baked it myself at a friends house. We were transplanting said cake to the school when we stopped at a gas station to get a couple of pops at the vending machine. Jumping back into the car I stepped on the cake. I lifted my foot quickly the cake wasn't totally destroyed but there was a deep footprint across the side. We didn't have time to bake a new cake we had to think fast. Thinking fast we went to the mom and pop grocery store in the small town and bought a can of frosting and smoothed over the footprint until it was no longer visible. We then proceeded to the school and raffled off that cake.

How did you............
by lola28 infind jwd?
i found this website while i was looking for the company that you can get service stuff from, i believed it was the "truth" and was a pioneer at the time, not a pioneer anymore.
so how did you get here and what has changed in your life since you found this place?.

The longest conventions I can remember were 4 or 5 days at McNicolls arena in Denver Colorado back in the 80's. I remember watching the digital clock and falling into mind numbing coma's being awoken briefly by clapping ticking another symposium off on the list. Those were some warm summers too the clock would flash the temp. to and it would frequently reach 103 at the height of the day......and don't forget to pack down an extra danish in the morning because you don't want to eat the hoagies!

last time in field service
by darth frosty inanother poster had the topic about your last meeting, but what really stands out for me is my last time in service.
it was a nice day and i was trying to keep up appearances.
i offered the rags a one door and the householder took them (i didn't bother with the donation spiel.

Thanks for the welcome Virgo. It's been so long since I've been to this board that all my past post's have been erased and forgotten. Every once in awhile I go thru not quite nostalgic periods in which I reflect upon my JW past. I don't know what triggers it, perhaps a certain song on the radio or something, a feeling in the air, like the whirring of a helicopter gives a Vietnam Vet flashbacks, something gets me.

Were you like me, or was I different?
by JH in.
i remember going to meetings at the hall, and when the meeting was over, i wanted to leave right away, and not see a jw t'il the next meeting.. i thought of this thread because i see so many witnesses having lunch together after meetings and many seem to always want to be together even when the meetings are over.. i never did like this closed circle of jw's.

I've seen both sides of that coin. When I was first introduced to the Kingdom Hall it was forced and as a young teen it was excruciating and I wanted to spend as little time there as possible. Eventually I did get to a point where I decided to stop fighting it and see what it was all about and then I wanted to spend every minute hanging out with my Witness friends. This was followed by a brief three or four months drifting away period in which once again I found it difficult to be around them. It's been more than ten years since I've seen anybody from that lost chapter of life except for my immediate family.

I can't even really remember the "final" time I went out in field service. It was probably a solitary effort on a cold winter day in January or February of 1995 in some rural territory that hadn't been worked in several years and an old farmer standing at the door wondering at first who I was and then why I was there and following that probably believing I was just plain nuts.
