i like to gain insight, get perspective on what it is like to be "on the other side" i guess you can say.

Hi StillAWitness (I like your new avitar, by the way, and if I played for that team I'd definitely be all "call me"...but I digress...),

I think I'm a minority on the board but I'm actually kind of apathetic toward the whole JW thing. About a year and a half ago a friend who knew I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness IMed me with a question about JW doctrine. I didn't know the answer so I googled "Jehovah's Witnesses" in hopes of finding it, but I found this site instead (ha!). Since I joined here, I've learned much more about the only religion I ever participated in than I ever learned about it while I was actually participating in it. The absurdity of that amuses me.

Having written the above, I'm about to contradict my claim of apathy. What I'd like is for the society to become more mainstream and abandon its fringe elements like the stand on higher education, the constant armageddon's-coming-yesterday-so-you'd-better-place-all-those-Watchtowers! bullshit and the general pressure for Jehovah's Witnesses to be so closed off to non-Jehovah's Witnesses. In my mind, the blood doctrine is in a separate category and is evil. Clearly, it has to go.

i love my cats as if they were my own children.

i was there when they were born and even cut one of the umbilical cords.

they are part of my family and yes, i do pick them up, hug them and kiss them everyday.

Yes, when my girls were alive, I hugged and kissed them every single day. Although one has been gone for 5 years and the other for 1 year, I still miss them terribly. With all due respect to all the other cats our there, my girls were the best cats ever. One thought she was a dog -- she'd go up to strangers and ask for pets and her meow even sounded a little like a bark. She was so friendly. The other was the sweetest, most docile cat, but she was a little shy. She'd let me cradle her like a baby and scratch her belly without ever complaining. She loved her mommy.

On the bright side, just this afternoon I decided to adopt two kittens. They're littermates born about 2 weeks ago to my co-worker's sister-in-law's cat. I'll get them in about a month. I'm sure I'll hug and kiss them daily, too.

...but only the current editions. They wouldn't want anyone to get confused by any of that pesky old light.

While Witnesses are allowed to have doubts, they're encouraged to do research and confirm that their faith is "the true religion" by reading the Bible, she explained.

ETA: The organization is so keen on JWs doing their own research to confirm the truth of their faith that it fully supports websites like Quotes' that make that easy. Oh, wait...

WTF? Anti health insurance?! I could sort of see being anti health care -- stupid as that may be -- but anti health insurance? This guy must be off his rocker. Has he ever explained the thinking behind his bizarre position?
