  does anyone on this forum have knowledge about casting out demons or evil spirits?

  there's at least two of them that have been harrasing me even before i was a jw.

  i recently attended a deliverance church to find some help but it was apparent that the holy spirit was missing from that church.

  I think we can all agree that Liz isn't being bothered by spirits. Shame that those who do presume to such gifts weren't able to intuite the deception which was left to the rationalists, once again.

  To respect that which is without merit would be to concede it had intrinsic value. You both preach ( and not particularly well ) about your personal god view but then tell us there isn't a language with which we can understand it. You both then claim to be scientific and mix your very limited understanding of current science in as a second hand proof of your god , the very scientific theories you deride when they crush your god. What scientific knowledge has your god provided to you and to the world? If we can agree that it's zilch then let's just agree that science - whether it is 1600 alchemical dead end aspirations or 2011 LHC elegant brilliance - has nothing to do with your subjective magic world.

  Its a bit insulting to try and pull your chair up to the scientific table bringing nothing more than dreams and whispers couched in a language you confess is unintelligible. Science is not faith based it is experiment based. You would suffer a breakdown if you ever confronted the fact that you are wrong because like all true believers you've wired your very existence to your central delusion.

  tec - faith isn't a tool its a psychological state of suspended skepticism. A tool is by its nature divisible from its user.

  The examples I was looking for were the mystical magic proofs. I know full well what the scientific method has enabled us to do and that's my point. It beat all the gods in a matter of 200 years even when the gods had thousands of years to share real knowledge. I wouldn't swop the last year's worth of scientific discovery for all the religious waffle and misdirection preached since the dawn of superstition.

  AG - so when beaten by logic and scientific statements you back up to - 'you don't speak my language' - so therefore you are wrong. That just makes you really poor at explaining especially as it takes pages for you to make a point.

  Part of the scientific method is to look for tests that disprove your hypothesis. What tests have you done to disprove your hypothesis? I suspect you don't have any hypothesis you just have faith.

  ahhh so frustrating. tec - you use words like 'show' and 'listen' as though your god manifests himself in naturalistic ways. If you wish to suggest that somehow your physical body is capable of experiencing extra sensory perception (so you aren't seeing, smelling, hearing, touching or tasting your god) then you are suggesting a lot more than simply we haven't yet got the right machines (because we can do all those sensory things listed with machines.) You are arguing for additional sensory capabilities in your brain.

  Science however, has observed the brain while the the temporarl lobes where stimulated and some test candidates described feeling an extra being. So there is actual evidence that the brain itself is responsible for all invisible beings experienced subjectively. i know this will not make you stop and think becasue you have nailed your colours firmly to the mast of magic thinking. Your god has less evidence going for him than the dream I had last night.

  i have been out for a long time.

  but, i remember "overcoming objections" was a big part of developing the jw mindset and was a regular drill at the tms.

  is that term still part of the jw lexicon?.

  In Mormon Elder speak it was 'overcoming concerns' and 'finding hidden concerns' by 're-stating the question' (e.g. would you get baptised if you weren't scared of water?) while 'building a relationship of trust'

  tec - answering is fine but the invitation was to give some examples rather than just say yes! Your beliefs are still magic thinking since you define them as supernatural else you must define your god as natural. If your god is natural then what natural proofs are there of its existence? How would this universe look if it had been made by Krishna or from the uncarved block or from an earth diver? What is it that makes this universe best explained by your god and only your god?
