Scholar: Zechariah 12:10
by OldSoul inscholar,.
please explain the meaning of the original hebrew in this text:(zechariah 12:10).
and i will pour upon the house of david, and upon the inhabitants of jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

fortune tellers
by Ellie in.
an old gypsy lady just came to my door and asked if she could tell my fortune, as i'm still freaked out by stuff like that i made the excuse of not being able to afford it, she told me as i have such a great future ahead of me she will tell me for free, and then proceeded to tell me something about my family which given the age of my mum could be believed and then told me something really good (however, shes told me not to tell anyone else as this will break my luck).. if it was you, would you believe her?

Absolute codswallop. Everyone I've met that ever had any kind of spiritual gift always seemed to keep it quiet and often found it a burden whereas the fakers always paraded themselves (and normally for money.)

How precisely will god save the JWs at armageddon?
by kid-A inhave you ever wondered, based upon the artists conception below, how it is jehovah will supposedly "save" the witnesses during his "great day of vengeance(tm)".
i mean, will he transport all 6 million of them into waiting cruise ships while he is throwing fireballs onto the earth?
how will all the dubs avoid falling into those giant crevasses as he starts the continental earthquakes?

The LDS will feed and protect them :) We'll have to bail most people out.

Almighty god ?
by lazyslob ini have a problem with the idea of almighty god.
can somebody explain it for me?
i mean if someone is almighty there are no limits what one can do, right?

I like to think of it differently - God is Almighty in comparison to me. I of course can think up paradoxes (immovable mountain) but God doesn't solve paradoxes nor does He make them. Paradoxes by their very definition do not exist except as imaginary constructs in thought.
On a different note I believe we are all eternal - we cannot be destroyed (even by God.) I see the purpose of this life as to see who will take responsibility and want more - those who do will learn everything that God knows and hence become heirs with Christ to everything that God has and is - we will become as God those who don't will get whatever they were willing to accept.
Where did God come from? His Father - in an eternal round - according to my beliefs. This concept is laughed at by materialists and athiests (and to be fair the majority of christians) but the funny thing is (taking the view that God doesn't exist) when we become godlike through our future cleverness, when we are repeating genesis on other planets to make them habitable for our children to colonise, we will be the gods who do not know exactly who our 'father' is since the primordial slime / comets from space (or whatever we decide started life) didn't manage to keep a record. So either way we have no way of answering the ultimate question of how did we begin. -

(Old Testament | Numbers 13:33)
And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight. -

Real Christians.....
by Honesty in1. were among the first to respond to the tsunami of 2004 and hurricane katrina with food, water, shelter, clothing, comfort, etc.
and provided relief efforts to every person they came in contact with regardless of religious beliefs.. 2. point to jesus as the only source of true happiness in today's world of uncertainty.
3. utilise 'worldly' holidays to focus attention on god's love for mankind.. 4. welcome you in no matter how many tattoos or body piercings you adorn your body with.. 5. pray for everything and at a moment's notice.

I'd want to heal sick people without relying on faith or religious stuff. One swish of my cape and the legs reappear, people can see, cancer melts away etc.. pretty cool.

Apologies if it looks like I'm purely talking to LT. Oh heck... I am ...sorry!
LT - Loaded question - does God make mistakes?
A mistake suggests that there was a better way to do something. I think that's a whole different thread that would potentially be a christians v aethiests thread :)
Does receiving the Holy Spirit entail being saved? Well I do think I've quoted reams of scriptures that say that we have to do something about our faith (theres a scripture which talks about baptism being required for being saved.) So assuming that your question means: ignoring all the quoted scriptures so far, does having the Holy Ghost mean you are saved?
Let's have a look.
Acts 5:32
32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
Acts 19:2 - 6
2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
Matthew 28:19 - 20
19 ΒΆ Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
John 3:5
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
looks like one interpretation of this scripture is a need for water and the spirit. It does seem to go hand in hand - baptism by water and then baptism of Holy Ghost.
I've done some searches looking for scriptures which include the word saved and ghost / spirit and I got this one:
Titus 3:5
5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which backs up what I said (works don't save us) but mentions baptism (washing of regeneration?) and the Holy Ghost making us born again (renewing?) is required for the saving power to be made manifest.
I'll quote LDS doctrine here just to be indulgent:
Articles of Faith 1:3 - 4
3 We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
4 We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
I guess our point of disagreement is on the 3rd and 4th ordinaces - baptism and Holy Ghost by laying on of hands. I presume we are both in agreement on 1 and 2.
