Whupping bad people..
Seriously I don't know.
Have a look at LDS history and see what they went through. Gives a bit of perspective.

these were mormons who were gay or lesbian or were related to gay or lesbian ex mormons and had been themselves.. the main subject was an australian woman who had been raised a mormon for her teenage years.
when she was 12 her mother married a newly converted mormon and they joined as well.

..am I wrathful:) I never watched this so I can't comment but I sincerely doubt the Bishop would have know about abuse and kept quiet. LDS culture is far more practical than you might give it credit for - take my uncle - his neice got abused so he went and burnt the abusers house down and re-arranged his face. Though he served his time for that I have yet to find anyone who will condemn him - there is utter revulsion in our community for child abuse and spouse abuse (though apparently not for 'justified' revenge!)
Now I'm not suggesting that what my uncle did was right but we do like to keep a clean house. I think in general the LDS are often quite a hard people since nothing in our culture teaches us to continually turn the other cheek or protect wrongdoers:
23 Now, I speak unto you concerning your families--if men will smite you, or your families, once, and ye bear it patiently and revile not against them, neither seek revenge, ye shall be rewarded;
24 But if ye bear it not patiently, it shall be accounted unto you as being meted out as a just measure unto you.
25 And again, if your enemy shall smite you the second time, and you revile not against your enemy, and bear it patiently, your reward shall be an hundredfold.
26 And again, if he shall smite you the third time, and ye bear it patiently, your reward shall be doubled unto you four-fold;
27 And these three testimonies shall stand against your enemy if he repent not, and shall not be blotted out.
28 And now, verily I say unto you, if that enemy shall escape my vengeance, that he be not brought into judgment before me, then ye shall see to it that ye warn him in my name, that he come no more upon you, neither upon your family, even your children's children unto the third and fourth generation.
29 And then, if he shall come upon you or your children, or your children's children unto the third and fourth generation, I have delivered thine enemy into thine hands;
30 And then if thou wilt spare him, thou shalt be rewarded for thy righteousness; and also thy children and thy children's children unto the third and fourth generation.
31 Nevertheless, thine enemy is in thine hands; and if thou rewardest him according to his works thou art justified; if he has sought thy life, and thy life is endangered by him, thine enemy is in thine hands and thou art justified.
32 Behold, this is the law I gave unto my servant Nephi, and thy fathers, Joseph, and Jacob, and Isaac, and Abraham, and all mine ancient prophets and apostles.
33 And again, this is the law that I gave unto mine ancients, that they should not go out unto battle against any nation, kindred, tongue, or people, save I, the Lord, commanded them.
34 And if any nation, tongue, or people should proclaim war against them, they should first lift a standard of peace unto that people, nation, or tongue;
35 And if that people did not accept the offering of peace, neither the second nor the third time, they should bring these testimonies before the Lord;
36 Then I, the Lord, would give unto them a commandment, and justify them in going out to battle against that nation, tongue, or people.
37 And I, the Lord, would fight their battles, and their children's battles, and their children's children's, until they had avenged themselves on all their enemies, to the third and fourth generation. -

Hi Nate, I disagree with pretty much all you just said but we'll say no more on that I'm not in an argumentative mood tonight.
I'm a fundamentalist and I don't consider myself uneducated, I'm a believer and I also love science, I know enough to know I'm only scratching the surface of most knowledge and that everyone else is in the same boat as me, I'm arrogant enough to believe I'm right a lot of the time and wise enough to see a similar arrogance in others, I want to be right but quite often I'm too lazy to back up my stance but above all I know that I am unique and that I'm conscious - no one with all the facts, figures, books, speeches, overhead projector slides or bookish rhetoric in the world will ever convince me that life, especially my own existence is anything less glorious and majestic than that promised in the bible. You want to be slime fair enough, I want to be a son of God. Even if you scour the universe and empty it of all its magic, pink unicorns and gods I'll live my dream and if you want to call me stupid or idiot go ahead. I know what happened between God and I 15 odd years ago I can't deny it, wouldn't want to. I try not to preach too much and apolgise for crossing the line every now and then but I can only share what I am and have. -

What's wrong with the motivating factor being religion anyhow? In the world I know most motivation for anything is sex, domination, money and pleasure. Don't tell me that some evolutionists motivation isn't aethism and a desire to break down religion. Evolutionary support has its fair share of liars as well but that doesn't make all evolutionists liars.
Some religions support evolution with the caveat of God being in overall charge - what strikes me is a lack of balance on the side of the most fundamental evolutionists who are unwilling to even entertain the idea that something in this universe could be smarter than them and could have taken an active hand in shaping life on this planet.
There are some extraordinary things in the recent history of mankind that are hard to explain by simple brute force (the pyramids, alignments of ancient mega cities, Nazca lines etc..) all designed by intelligence but hard to understand how they were made (the available technology doesn't seem to match) - there is so much we don't know that to dismiss any intelligence other than our own is something I would hope scientists don't do - verbally closing doors on possibilities is not scientific. Sometimes its OK to say - 'I don't know but if I ever find out I'll tell you.' Currently we seem to have a lot of unscientific rhetoric and bluster ending in personal attacks on 'fundy's', 'idiots', 'the unenlightened', 'fools' etc.. -

Anyone notice the explosion in gambling over the last year - maybe its a UK thing. There is a concerted effort by the industry to win over lots of new gamblers especially the poker stuff.
This is going to financially break an awful lot of people and families. -

..anyone fancy doing a graph? I'd expect that they should be getting more deadly since more people are around these days - if the graph showed a decline/steady line then that would potentially be a refutation in earthquakes as any 'sign' that the end is nigh.

I was just saying that statistically it does seem that earthquake impacts are getting more deadly - if Jesus didn't turn up for another 1000 years it would be a done and dusted point since clearly it was nothing to do with end time prophecy..
I was also intrigued by another ref which could be argued is part of a parable about the last days..:
Isaiah
8 ¶ Woe unto them that join house to house, [that] lay field to field, till [there be] no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth!
Maybe Narkissos or Leo. could enlighten us as to why this would be of significance to the Jews (us) - do I need to sell my terrace :) -

Law fulfilled By Jesus - What does that mean?
by Qcmbr ini think it is interesting that jesus preaches the gospel message (including that he is the culmination of the law) and yet teaches the following:.
17 and when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, good master, what shall i do that i may inherit eternal life?
mark 10:18.

17 ¶ And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
Mark 10:18
18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? [there is] none good but one, [that is], God.
Mark 10:19
19 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.
Mark 10:20
20 And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.
Mark 10:21
21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
Mark 10:22
22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
Mark 10:23
23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!This could be interpreted as saying you still have to keep the ten commandments (so they aren't superceded) AND you need to give away all your wealth (the root of many monastic orders.) So was the fulfilling of the law a partial fulfillment (i.e. only the animal sacrifice type parts now no longer required), a complete fulfillment (no more ten commandments just the two Love, God and Love neighbour) or something else?
