Hello All. I just returned from sunny Southend-on-Sea (Essex, England) to bring my Mum back for the winter. It's somewhat like the swallows returning to wherever they return, but more expensive. I like the UK but I hate the trip. I hate jet-lag and I hate the work that piles up in my absence. I'll feel better next week. Did I miss anything, like new pictures of Stef? I never did connect for a beer with nevergotwet, oh well maybe next time.

Give up one of your five senses
by Terry in.
you must lose one of your five senses.
which one do you give up?

I always assumed that I would lose my eyesight, blind in one very short sighted in the other. So I thought playing the guitar would be something I could always do. So for 35 years I have played about 10 hours a week. I have about 100 songs in my repetoire so you would think I have it covered, yes? Wrong. For one thing science can now fix my blind eye, so I won't go blind, but the worst thing is I am getting arthritis in my fingers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's not fair, where's the freakin' new system when you need it???????????

Can You Picture Jesus Christ Being a Jehovah's Witness???
by minimus inthink about that for a moment....... if jesus was a jw(as jws claim), how would he have handled various situations??
for example, if peter denied him 3 times, what would've been different?
or if the disciples fell asleep the night before he was to die, how would a jesus christ jehovah's witness have handled it?.......you get the idea.

Actually, that is something I did think about as I was collecting the nails for my JW coffin. The two things I recall is that Jesus celebrated a "worldly" holiday, Hannukah, and used the name of a false god (Uranus) when talking about Heaven. Paul would have made a better JW.

LET US TRY AN EXQUISITE CORPSE
by Terry inamong surrealist techniques exploiting the mystique of accident was a kind of collective collage of words or images called the cadavre exquis (exquisite corpse).
based on an old parlor game, it was played by several people, each of whom would write a phrase on a sheet of paper, fold the paper to conceal part of it, and pass it on to the next player for his contribution.
i will begin the story.

............. Brothers, it's the first of the month, don't forget to put your time in.
Mookie, wondering what that was all about, said to Cookie "What does 'putting your time in mean', Cookie?"
Cookie replied "Well, that's something the Organization wants to know. There's several Scriptures that back that up but I can't think of any now. We record every month how many hours we spent in Field Service, placing magazines and the like. We have a personal goal of 10 hours a month."
"Do you count time when you are talking to me about the Bible and that book you suggested I read?"
"Well, yes Mookie. We do."
"Cookie, does that mean that if we were to talk about these things more often you could count more time."
"Yes, that's true"
"Well, Cookie, I don't work on Mondays. Perhaps you and Dick could come by and talk to me more" said Mookie, knowing that Dick worked regular hours during the week.
"Mookie, Dick won't be able to make it but I could come by. How's tomorrow?"
"Great, say 10am, and you'll be on your own then."
"Well, I was thinking of bringing a friend with me, do you mind?"
"Actually, I'm a bit nervous about talking about spiritual things with someone I don't know. Would you mind if you came alone?"
"OK. See you at 10am tomorrow"
Sweet, thought Mookie. We can talk for hours .........................

Portland OR XJW Meet-up - A question from Scott for us all
by Glenmore inmy wife (jill) came with me, only because ordrade would be there, and we had a good time.
i should drink red wine on an empty stomach more often, i'm a cheap drunk!
i think our basic "answer" was to stay close to them, be the best dad he can be, take them to the zoo, do all the things you can to be a rock for them, and don't make issues out of the jws in case it backfires, just be there for them - always.. so the question for us all that i would like to extend for scott is, what can he do, what should he expect and how can he handle this torment?.

My wife (Jill) came with me, only because Ordrade would be there, and we had a good time. I should drink red wine on an empty stomach more often, I'm a cheap drunk! A very nice fellow (Scott) was there. I couldn't find him in the Member Directory above, so I'm not sure if he posts or not. Anyway, Scott isn't (and won't be) a JW. His concerns (and reasons for attending the Meet-up) relate to his children that live with their JW mother. A real concern for him (as you would imagine) is What can he do to protect his children from getting caught up with the JWs?
I think our basic "answer" was to stay close to them, be the best Dad he can be, take them to the Zoo, do all the things you can to be a Rock for them, and don't make issues out of the JWs in case it backfires, just be there for them - always.
So the question for us all that I would like to extend for Scott is, What can he do, what should he expect and how can he handle this torment?
On reflection I think one thing he could do is act a little "favorable to the Truth". I don't mean accept and agree (or take a hypocritaical stance) but he might get a better reception if his former spouse didn't feel attacked (I'm not saying he's in attack mode but you know how the JDubyas are on tilt all the time). When you feel attacked, you dig in, and that can make it worse. It's just a thought, I don't know his wife, him, his kids or the particulars I just know from prior experience that if you go a little over the line toward JW thinking you can get a better reception. Hopefully that makes sense.
And it was good to see: Matt, Bethany, Marie, Scott, Mailman Dan, Johnny and (of course) Odrade.
