I just dug up a CD of the wt from 1920-29. I'll slog around in it a while and see what I can find about Justice. Good comments, thanks. Glen

I find it hard work going through Russell's writing. I'll keep reading, maybe RR could give us the DAWN perspective. But IMHO of it it seems only the New Creation gets the Law of Love (John), no one else. Everybody body is under the Law of Justice, being under Mosaic Law (decalogue). So in our vernacular that's the Annointed getting the fruits of the Spirit, and no one else. I'll try reading it again.

Hey good catch, Blondie! In the Fort Worth Bible Students mailer it did say that Love was superior to Justice, so (to me, as I don't have the mailer with me for the precise wording) the Golden Rule is more basic than the Rule of Love. Anyway, so that's a Russell teaching that's still relevant today! So when did the Golden Rule change from Justice to Love? And more to the point what does that do for the JDubya versus the Bible Student? Does that mean a JDubya thinks it is agape-Love to do the door-to-door work, when really door-to-door work cannot be sanctioned by a rule of Justice. Maybe it's the conspiracy theorist wihtin me that would say it would be convenient for a republishing empire to encourage its unpaid salespeople to follow the Golden Rule of Love by selling its products. In the same breath it is no longer a matter of (the lack of) Justice to shun a wayward brother, as now it is is Love to teach the wayward to return to the Organization by disfellowshipping him good and proper. Hmmm....... Many thanks, B! Glen

Blondie, I was reading a mailer I got from the Forth Worth Bible Students. The Golden Rule was quoted and the mailer said this was a law of Justice not of Love. The principle being that all people are owed to be treated well. I was wondering if this is Old Light (ie Russell's) and when did the New Light (Love) come about as JW law. To me owing someone to be treated as you would be treated is more a matter of justice than love. In that "light" shunning of errant JW's is unjust and that stating it is Love is bogus. Anyway, Blondie, you always have a good eye for nabbing the right info'. What do you think? Glen

How many brought to the JWs by the door to door work?
by undercover inminimus stated in another thread that 99% of newly baptized jws are children/teens of jws.
another poster said that they knew of only one person baptized in 20 years of door to door work.. let's do an informal, unscientific poll/survey:.
how many here were brought into the "truth", whether baptized or unbaptized publishers, by means of the door to door work having no prior experience with jws?

Jill and I were door-to-door converts in 1981, but somewhat prompted by an informal "witness" of someone who was studying in the UK. In the local congo of ~150 publishers I would guess that during our tenure (1981-1998) there were about 15 dood-to-door converts baptized in total, so about 1 a year. Glen

For some reason I always enjoyed making an environment for the younger ones to enjoy themselves. As I always said "if I had been raised in the Troof I would have been df'd before I turned 18". O, I mention those names in case any are lurking - I want them to know how much I liked them, they are still part of my life. Glen

The Sudden Interest in Russell & Rutherford----What Gives???
by minimus inthere have been a number of threads lately on these 2 men.
why the sudden interest lately?
any ideas?

Rutherford is my hobby. He was the Evil Slave. Without him there would be no JWs. I am writing a black humor novel on the return of the Ancient Worthies. So not sudden interest for me, but I am happy to copy others' work and store it with my own research. Thank you all.

Yep it was the good times with the people as I remember, and it often included alcohol. There was a local family with a Bethelite, and when he came home he would always have a party with only the "A" list invited. Always lots of fun. I remember Odrade there one time. The A list were the ones who would not tell the Elders if something a little over the top happened. In the later years I would always bring the beer, since I worked for a brewery. And I would have them over to play pool, I had a keg too. I cannot hear the first Counting Crows' album or Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody without thinking of Tim Altimus, Josh Sommer, Larry and Mona Gould and Diana Alter. And those were happy times. We had bunco and poker parties, playing for points and gifts for the winners - we had unXmas Eve and non-New Years Eve parties to boot! I got talked to a few times - I was told that the word was for the older youths that if you wanted a good time go to the James'. I am happy to be of service! Glen
