cut off all communication unless it's an emergency and if they do try and contact you berate them with guilt and fear of death.
i suppose i already do that because i don't really see my parents all that often and when i do i keep it superficial.
Still...how would they feel if every conversation we berated their choices just like they do to us. Every time we saw them we made them feel like an outcast. Made them feel guilty.
Oh that's right we aren't allowed to do that or have an opinion because they are right.

then, not having mailed it yet, i received a letter from my mom, also very loving, encouraging me to return, but telling me she will no longer have contact with me personally.
if i want to drop my daughter (who is only 3) off at her house for unsupervised visits and write letters in my daughter's name to keep her updated, that will be fine.
and she would also like me to bring my girl to the kh.
Your post reflects how a lot of us feel. I have total sympathy for you. I was having breakfast with a girlfriend of mine today. She is non JW and I told her how I found this board and we were crackin up because I said it's like the AA of JW's. I have the freedom to speak but don't have to reveal myself. She is 13 yrs AA so she understood the comparison.

I was very moved by the movie and plan to buy it on DVD. The hooded figure is supposed to be a demon. In one part it has a maggot coming out of it's nose.
I will have to watch it again...I saw it opening night to see the sadness you saw on it's face.

i'll probably end up having kids in the near future, and i would not want my mother preaching to my children.. so, i must ask, how do you handle your jw relatives who try to preach to your children?

I don't know you personally but you have made many comments here that irritate me. First you have claimed to still be a witness. Why are you here then?
Secondly I lived a life of HELL being raised to believe that everyone was bad. If I didn't do what was told I would die forever. These are NOT loving teachings. They teach FEAR. NOT LOVE. Fear is the motivating factor in the JW. I still hold dear some moral principles that I was taught. Those are taught in most every singly family I know. JW or not.
My son will not be exposed to hate and fear. Simple. You can throw stones all you want but apparently you don't have a child.

My son was born after I faded. His dad and I always have had Christmas (father never was JW). We celebrate his birthday and we do Easter. I am now married to a man who was raised Catholic and is WILD about holidays. My ex (son's father) is remarried and they do it up big as well.
Sometimes I feel like a misfit. I never believed in Santa. I never had a tree. I never did any of their usual customs. Now it's weird to raise my child and go thru the motions with him. I will not lie to him and tell him Santa is real. I will not lie and decorate for the bunny. I love the celebrations for him because of the family and dinner and the fun. Beyond that it's hard for me. I know the effects of the religion will always be with me but I want my son to have a normal life. I LOVE his birthday though. I love the day I gave birth to him. I love God for giving him to me. I will NEVER have a problem with his birthday or my husbands. But Christmas and Easter are hard. Anyone else have a point of view on this?

I no longer allow my son to spend time alone or any overnights with G&G. My son's father FLIPPED when our child came home and said that Santa was demonized and that God hates people who celebrate birthday's. Also told my son that Santa and the Easter Bunny were not real. My ex is not a JW and can't stand religion in general. I had to explain to my son that G was a different religion and that she was wrong and that he should not repeat this. My son was only 6 at the time so you do the math. He was upset. He no longer is allowed with her because she won't stop.
This whole thread makes me want to throw up. How parents could subject their children to this kind of abuse is beyond me. I was DF'd at 19 and that was bad enough. Reproved at 16.
its easy to belive what we read and accept as truth.when my wife came to the computer i left on the screen a post on what happend at bethel (not intentionally) ..she read it and said i dont belive it?
i would like to belive what i read on this board is 100 % true.
iam grateful for the truth on the u:n and more and more stuff that blows my mind away.and also personal stories that have had a profound effect on me.. sadly iam certain with-out doubt that the majority of exsperinences on this board are true because no matter how sincere a person is when you allow people to have a higher legal position in the land they live in than the law of the land they live in( no matter how bad or corrupt the society of the land we live in.
I for one am so grateful to have found this board. It made me feel normal and less like a freak for what my childhood had been like.
You can usually tell if you have been around the truth for any length of time if there is a BS post.

The whole thing breaks my heart and makes me cry. Brought back many memories of the same type of exchanges with my own parents. Find your path and know that you are loved.
