many threads on the overlapping generation...how do you explain it briefly to a ex-jw or jw on the edge?.

explaining the "overlapping generation"?
But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations.(rev 13:10) And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
“And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then *they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”
Then He spoke to them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. When they are already budding, you see and know for yourselves that summer is now near. So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. The Importance of Watching
“But take heed to yourselves, lest your *hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy(may have strength) to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”
And in the daytime He was teaching in the temple, but at night He went out and stayed on the mountain called Olivet. luke 21:23-37in the bible, generation can also mean offspring or kind. Since the passage in luke 21:32 is talking about the final generation before the coming of the Son of Man it should also be looked at in context. The final generation is said to be eating and drinking giving in marriage etc and then sudden destruction comes upon them...this is the same as in noah's day...(matthew 24:37-39)and in noah's day it was the fallen angels who were giving and taking in marriage with human women. the NT talks about a flesh "man" and a spiritual "man"...so now-a-days those "wo[men]" who are giving and taking in marriage(fake Holy Spirit rev 13:13) those OTHER THAN Jesus Christ are impregnating their minds(the mark in the forehead rev 13:16) with doctrines of demons(1 timothy 4:1)...and they nurse these ideas along with others who would be deceived with them.(matt 12:35;luke 11:24-26)
those who are the bride of Jesus Christ have the Holy Spirit in them(see luke 1:35)...they are not deceived. (see john 14:23,26; 1 cor 6:14-19; 2 cor 6:16; rev 12:1-2)
imo "overlapping generation" is distraction for those already deceived.

p.s. *they, those who would watch for their redeemer. *hearts, conscience minds.

Jehovah's Witnesses are entitled to their own OPINION
by Terry inwe've all heard the old saying: "everybody is entitled to their own opinion.".
but, my toothache is objective pain.. .
to be of rational value, evidence must be objective.

dear No Room For George...
you said: "...God chooses to stay off the radar, if he exists..."
(I was just considering this while reading about something else so please don't ask me about quantum mechanics. I don't know)
one could think of God's interaction with us (at this time) as "controlled"...
If an experimenter tries to influence his experiment using only his consciousness and no measuring instrument, he will not get any results.~marj hartman MS., University of Arizona~ in quantum mechanics this can be described like this.set a coin spinning on the table and while the coin is spinning it is neither heads nor tails because it is spinning. If you want to find out if it is heads or tails, you will have to change it to find that out. So in a sense it didn't have a property of either heads or tails. When it is knocked down and flat on the table, it has 50% chance of being either. The analogy here is, when you take a measurement of something in quantum mechanics, you change the state but you don't have any control over what pops up. the control is in the fact that the observer controls that it will go into one of those states but the observer doesn't control which one~erica carlson,Ph.D.assistant professor of physics, Purdue University~) ...think "God, the scientist" . when He sent His beloved Son to the earth it was "measuring instrument" +"observer determines reality". God the observer determined to "measure". In genesis 3:15 we are informed that there is a comparison which would imply some kind of measuring. we were introduced to a probability. THE Seed of the woman manifest physically into our reality brings about AND allows for one of two pre-determined states...like the coin. love michelle p.s. So...with God providing His hypothesis of man, as well as His theory that that there ARE some who would indeed choose one side of "A" coin over the other and then providing man a means of expressing that choice in a concrete and readily identifiable way...doesn't THAT "full disclosure" leave no other options but the two? wouldn't that mean the evidence shows atheist do reject God?

In the LAST DAYS (mockers, scoffers) ridiculers will come saying:
by Terry in(2 peter 3:1-13) ... niv....."in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.they will say, where is this coming he promised?
ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.
waaaaay back when these words were written an embarassing awareness of delay was in the air among christians.. shortly after jesus was executed the story was circulated that he arose from the dead and was witnessed by a great many people.. but, jesus (it was said) went up to his father in heaven and would soon return.. time passed.. more time passed.. ....and still more time passed without jesus coming back.. the idea that deliverance was "near" began to make believers squirm with discomfort.. instead of standing around waiting, enduring persecution and praying constantly for reward....a new task emerged for christians to take.

thank you Darth Rutherford...
(I don't know where Terry got this opinion)
"Time passed.
More time passed.
....and still MORE time passed without Jesus coming back.
The idea that deliverance was "near" began to make believers squirm with discomfort." ...
time is a gift

Heaven and Hell : Life after death
by bioflex ini am starting this topic to discuss the title.
i know many people on this forums dont believe in the idea of god , and even jw's reject the idea of a fiery hell even though the bible clearly states is.. this video contain testimonies osome people who even considered themselves as atheists until the point of practical death.. i just want to emphasize what one person said in the video at the point of death - " what if god is real, and what if all that which was being said about god was true" .
hope this helps whoever it may.. and one more thing, no matter what you do or how you live your life, just know that even at the point of death, jesus christ is able to save.

dear Vander...
you said: "Note that Jesus used the fraudster as an example for believers to follow in earning heavenly rewards. Think about it.
Vander
P.S. Again, let's look at the other scriptures, one passage at a time, once we deal fully with the passage at hand...to be sure we are not letting assumptions pass for truth."
considering that Jesus was talking about failure NOT victory, and unrighteous mammon NOT true "riches", isn't it in keeping with the general thrust of scripture that Jesus was referencing the everlasting habitation called hell?(luke 16:1-9) and since other scriptures spoken by Jesus reference a place of burning torment,(luke 16:24) how can one ignore these scriptural motifs (contained in the words and lessons OF Jesus Christ) without first assuming that something other than what IS stated is the truth?...

An Old Argument.... does it hold water?
by AK - Jeff inestimates range from 4 million to 15 million children die from starvation each year on this planet.
that's between 500 and 1700 children a day, depending on what numbers you accept.
still, no matter which numbers you use, doesn't this make you arrive at one of the following conclusions?.

dear sizemik...
you said: "Yeah . . . at the tsunami warning we'd be paddling out 40 miles . . . catching those 50m mothers and riding them all the way down the St Laurence, praising Jah, the great and mighty wave generator, for his goodness toward surfers."...is this a thinly veiled lack of compassion toward the plight of others? or do you just think you're funny?
dear darthvader...
you said: "I don't believe this dribble, but once religious people believe that the "next life" (no matter what you call it: Heaven, New Order, Allah's Palace etc.) is possible, it inherently devalues this existence and provide justification or explanation for the most grievous suffering."...who's devalueing?
you suggest it couldn't possibly be a non-religious person, it's got to be the religious who lend support to welfare programs around the world, and who have built hospitals and actually left their comfortable lives behind in order to minister to the physical needs of the less fortunate...they're always living in the "next life"...(it might surprise you to know that most christians believe that God IS watching them go about their Fathers business)...
would you like to have your "giving" put under a microscope?
love michelle
