Just Because I Am Brown...
by XJW4EVR indo not assume that i speak spanish.. it seems to that more and more latinos that i interact with on a daily basis assume that just because i have brown skin, i speak spanish.. end of rant.. edited to add: wouldn't this be akin to assuming that just because a person is african-american that he/she can sing, dance or play sports well?.

I don't care if they assume I speak Spanish. I do get pissed though when they get upset because I don't speak Spanish.
This happens to my wife all the time. Her other half is Sicilian. Mix that with the Filipina, and she looks somewhat Latina. When they get mad at her, she usually responds in Tagalog, and the resulting looks of confusion are again...priceless.

My 19-year old college daughter is fluent in Spanish.
We were at Wal-Mart once - the meat counter - and some south-of-the-border guys were there.
My daughter said they were talking bad about the meat and calling it some unflattering names.
When they realized my daughter understood them, they hurriedly left.
We laughed about it!
My wife is half Filipina, and we live in a section of Los Angeles that has a large Filipino population. Now she does not "look" Filipina, but is fluent in Tagalog. As a result she has overheard some rather distasteful and bigoted comments about her and I when we have eaten or shopped at the local Filipino establishments. The looks of embarassment on their faces when she asks them, in Tagalog, to repeat the comments they made in English are just priceless.

Why is it ASS-umed that because I am ranting about this I am unable to speak Spanish? I just believe that if you are going to live in a country that you should be able to converse in that language.

Do believers in demons use them to avoid responsibility for actions?
by gaiagirl inthe wtbts teaches that "the whole world is lying in the power of satan" and that "satan controls all the governments".
also, even that sincere members of all other churches good works all are service "to demons".
so, when a jw, or other person who believes in demons, commits a wrong act, do you observe that they blame it on satan or demons instead of accepting responsibility for their own actions?.

The Bible says that the Christian has three foes: the world, the flesh and the devil. I have a hard enough problem with the first two, that the third doesn't even bother me. However, that begs the question, and the answer is no. My belief in the supernatural does not alleviate my responsibility for my sin. I believe that you would be hard pressed to find a reputable Christian scholar that even teaches that.

No Communion for Obama supporters says Priest

This is an issue of the RCC imposing discipline on its members, and that is perfectly in line with Scripture. Why are you all so interested in the inner workings of the RCC anyway? BTW, I am NOT a Romanist.

What was your favorite summer movie of 2008?
by gaiagirl inmine was "indiana jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull".

The Dark Knight...By far was the best summer movie.
I believe that Heath Ledger will be nominated for a Best Actor Oscar. I hope that he wins. His portrayal of The Joker was the best acting I have seen since William Hurt as Luis Molina in Kiss of the Spider Woman.
