This one will always be the "Song" book I remember. Especially Song 119, which was played at my grandmother's memorial service.

Bristol Palin and her typical black & white right-wing / religious mindset
by Simon inso, bristol palin is through to the final on dancing with the stars even though it's obvious to everyone with half a brain that she doesn't deserve to be based on her dancing.
she's there simply because the obsessive palin fundies are voting for her.. i thought it was interesting listening to her describe people who think she shouldn't be there as "the haters".. what black and white thinking and typical of the religious / right-wing mentality.
people can't have an opinion that is based on reality and see that better dancers were voted off while she stayed way past her skill level warranted.

Maybe it's a cultural difference but when a similar thing happened in the UK
That's what I was waiting for. The old UK is so much better than the US that I have come to love and expect from you. Thank you for not letting me down.

Oh, and Simon, there is something that you CAN do...turn off the TV if you don't like it!

Why I think Jesus spoke against Organized Religion
by sabastious inthis is going to be a short essay on a point i have been thinking about for a while now.. jesus explicitly stated in the gospels not to judge.
i think this a grossly overlooked statement from jesus from the witnesses and a lot of christian denominations.. judging could be defined as figuring out what's right or wrong for another person.
it's a pretty simple concept really, and jesus warned against it.. organized religion by definition creates doctrine and policy, some enforce them more than others (like the witnesses).. to create (or interpret) doctrine and initialize policy is to judge others.

How did you come to that conclusion?

Need Help From British Football Fans
by XJW4EVR ini have closely followed the premier league for the last 13 matchdays, and i am getting ready to pick a team that i will not only follow this year but for the foreseeable future.
i am not interested in chelsea, manchester u., manchester city or arsenal.
all four remind me of teams i loathe in american sports (cowboys, yankees, celtics).

four candles, I heard an interview or a rant by Ian Holloway just after the Rooney flap with Sir Alex Ferguson, and he was good for a laugh. Tell me, is it true that there is a sort of a cliche of Alex Ferguson accolytes in the Premier League?
Digderidoo, I will look into Wolverhampton. As I said my mind isn't really made up, other than what teams I am NOT interested in. The Galaxy is not really my team, though I did see them during the inaugural MLS season when they played at the Rose Bowl. However, football just did not tickle my fancy, as it has this year.
I'll tell you what has helped me get a better understanding of the game, both American and English, are a number of Podcasts that I regularly listen to. So, if there are any team specific Podcasts that any of you can recommend I will give them a listen.
Thanks for all the input. You guys are great!

Still thinking on th EPL team. I am going to check out the team boards on my next days off. I don't want to pick just any team.
BTW I am in the same quandry for an MLS team. The Los Angeles Galaxy are my current home team, but the Colorado Rapids would by closest to my home state and town where I was raised in northern New Mexico. So I am just as perplexed on this on. BTW congrats to the Colorado Rapids for winning the 2010 MLS Cup, and beating FC Dallas (I will NEVER root for any team from Dallas, let alone Texas).

Things in the past that show you that your doubts started earlier than you thought
by sabastious ini was just talking to my wife this morning about underlining or highlighting the wt paragraphs.. when i was 13 years old i would fight with my dad because i refused to highlight the answers.. the reason was because i wanted my comment to be genuine.
i felt that highlighting the "answer" made me lean on just using that as a crutch and not truly putting it in my own words.. i still hold that argument now, and i am 26. the only reason you would ever have to highlight something in a study book would be if you needed to remember it, maybe it is fairly complicated or subtle information that could be easily forgotten.. so many times in the wt the "question" has the same phrase that's in the paragraph!
it's literally like playing connect the dots.. so what i would do is not highlight during the family study.

I don't know when I first began to doubt. I do recall telling my PO father that if "the truth" was indeed true, then no JW should fear other religions or what "apostates" had to say. This was in the middle of the "apostate" witch hunts in the early 80s.
One other event I do recall, is that I once had the No. 2 talk during the Theocratic Ministry School, and my assignment was 1 Corinthians 15:1-33. What struck me, even as a theologically unsophisticated 13 year-old was the simplicity of the gospel as found in verses 3-8 as opposed to the complexity of studying the Live Forever book in order to be sonsidered for JW baptism.

I am like you myelaine. I do not understand how one person can constitute a church. Right now, due to the economic disaster that is happening in California, my wife and I have had to take jobs that require us to work on Sundays. Due to this, we have not been able to attend a church service in about 3 months. Though we have strong prayer and devotional lives, what we both miss is fellowship with other believers, and partaking in The Lord's Supper with the church.

Rub a Dub, Real Madrid are very good. Being a total noob to football I want to focus on one international league.
Oldlight, I have seen two or three Arsenal matches, and I do like their style, but for some reason Arsene Wenger just rubs me the wrong way. Yes, Liverpool is a "big" club. My interest in Liverpool is based on the new ownership they have. I am interested in seeing how their style of "money ball" (which was very successful against the hated New York Yankees) will work out in English football.
