Nearly out....

guys, im deliriously happy that im nearly out.. my mind is now free of morbid, gloomy thoughts of the future.

its a freedom that is indeed priceless.. i now feel less need to drink (although im having a beer to celebrate just now)!!

i have been for some time atheist, i doubt it will ever change.

Are JWs the Ultimate Modern Suicide Cult?

jws lives are regularly put on the line by their religious beliefs or by the rules made by the wtbts.. if they become sick or injured they cannot accept for themselves or their loved one a blood transfusion that may save their lives.. if they live in an intolerant society, they may not purchase simple papers that could prevent them being tortured or murdered.. they go regularly to the homes of strangers and speak to total strangers and risk life and limb.

some have died because of this very practice.. so, are jws the ultimate modern suicide cult?.

i can't think of any religion, other than the suicide bombers of islam, that believe strongly in martyrdom, as the jws do.. how many jws could be dying every day because of the wtbts instructions?.

How many actually watched or owned adult material when they were Witnesses?

i was at a book study when i was in my teens and went to use the bathroom, and the family who owned the home said to use the one in their bedroom, as someone was already in the other one.

so i did and as i was in there i noticed a magazine on the counter that was only partly covered.

i could not help myself, and looked to see what it was and it was a penthouse.

Elise:: If he is believes in his right to watch porn then he should stand up for his convictions and tell the other Jehovah's Witnesses that he can't live under their rules. It's up to the organisation then whether it makes changes to accommodate the needs of it's members (who, from what I've read in these threads number more than one) or not. Otherwise you are just the same old hypocritical Jehovah's Witnesses that you yourselves moan about.

I can see now that you are, perhaps, well-intentioned, but extremely naive when it comes either to taking a stand in regard to your convictions within the JW Organization when they differ from those of the Organization or to just walking away.

If only it were as simple as it seems to you, but there is so much more to it that that for many. Stick around and read a few personal experience threads on the matter. It will likely increase your understanding, compassion, and tolerance for those stuck between a rock and a hard place. Or not.

As to porn while a Witness?...Well, being young and living at home when I was "in" I didn't have much access but, being an aspiring artist (LOL) I was able to devise my own, and I did. What can I say? I was frustrated, guilt-ridden, and repressed. Weren't we all? But it was a vicious cycle. Repressed sexuality--guilt for feeling sexual--a few moments of pleasurable mental and physical stimulation--relief of tension--increased guilt--increased tension---increased need for relief. Glad I broke the cycle by getting OUT

If you were God, would you want to be worshipped?

if i was the god of the bible, i think my priorities would be to set the ground rules of life and manage the planet, ensuring life is good.

i cannot envision any reason to desire worship.

Maybe it just depends on what your definitions of "God" and "worship" are...For me, worshipping God means (as best I can put it into words) recognizing the worth of the wholeness or totality of existance beyond my limited ego-awareness...or something like that. I'm not fully awake yet this morning...
