the thought of voting.... i hope bill bowen does not get disfellowship...cause if he is he will no longer able to drum up supports among true diehard, dedicated witnesses to the cause.. most people up in here are deleberately bashing the organisation.... why?

New information dealing w/ Bi-polar
by Xandria in.
.
interesting... wonder if the jw's thing anything of this.
-
BeautifulGarbage
I have several JW cousins that are Bi-polar. Plus one cousin who isn't JW that is Bi-polar.
My JW cousins were allowed to languish for years being told to "go to more meetings "pray it away", "leave it to Jehovah", until finally their behavior became so bizarre that hospitalization became necessary. Especially one cousin in particular. Lots of suicide attempts. Yes, she takes Lithium. NOW. But it wasn't for years after the onset of her illness. She can't hold a fulltime job. It's just too stressful.
My other Non-JW cousin was diagnosed while in college. She immediately got treatment. She is currently not taking any meds, but does get regular therapy and is closely monitered. She graduated college and is supporting herself. She's happy.
The contrast is in the two reactions by the families. I often wonder if my one JW cousin, described above, would not be battling so hard with her illness had she gotten help years earlier.

I live in an area where many celebrities have homes and visit.
When I include my sister, My Mom and Me, we have met a ton of people.
In the 70's before Saturday Night Fever hit it big, my sister was in a local stage production with John Travolta (A star because of Welcome Back Kotter). His older sister lived in our town, and was the director. She told me he was a very nice guy.
Back in the mid 80's I met Tristan Rogers. He played Scorpio on the soap General Hospital. This was during the Palm Springs Grand Prix and he was driving in the celebrity race. He didn't have a car, and so my Uncle(who was racing in the Grand Prix) was asked if Tristan could drive his car. Anyway, what a jerk! My uncle introduces me and the moron hardly knowledges me. And here I was a fan for all those years. I guess I didn't gush enough. Creep!
Also at the same race was Perry King. I didn't meet him, but I remember spying his butt while he was talking to a TV reporter
I've seen Shelly Winters and Ozzy Osbourne in the supermarket. I've also seen Alicia Silverstone. I never go up to them though. I figure they would probably want to be left alone.
My Mom has met, well this way years ago, Ali MacGraw and Steve McQueen when they were married. Nice but said Steve had a ton of wrinkles.
She has also met, oh I can't remember his name, the Kung FU guy. Also a creep. When some little kid very sweetly asked for his autograph, the dude goes into a tirade at the poor thing that "he is NOT working right now"!
Now, I remember his name! David Carridine! yuk! poo!
Well, then I had an almost sighting. It was the Rolling Stones. It was 1980. The whole band was vacationing in town staying at a very exclusive resort. One of the employees came into the store I was working out to buy them some "supplies". The guy literally bought every bottle of the very expensive booze the store carried. Plus, he bought a ton of meat because they were going to bar-b-que. Interesting, this resort does not allow children under the age of 16. However, the guy reported that they had a ton of kids with them. Ahh, and they say celebrities dont' get special treatment.
I met baseball player, Don Baylor, back in the early 80's when he played for the Angels. Very nice man, but HUGE!
Oh, I went to high school with Michael Landon's (Little House on the Praire) son, Josh. Just a very normal kid. Tattered jeans and all. He had a major crush on my best friend.
Oh, back in the late 70's, my husband's family had Eddie Money (the rock star) over for dinner. My husband's Father was a stockbroker and was trying to get him as a client.
There's more, but that is all I can remember right now.

Arrest in Samantha Runnion case
by FreeFallin in.
an arrest was made in the murder of this little girl.
the man arrested was charged with child molestation in 2000, but never convicted.

I live in Southern California, and am orginally from the area that Samantha was kidnapped. I live in the same county where her body was found. Of course, this story is on our local news constantly. Warnings of the killer striking again within 24 hours has had me keep my children indoors. I am certainly no alarmist, but this one was very close to home.
Keeping a level head is difficult. I don't want to hold my children hostage, but at the same time keep them safe. I realize that they are much more likely to be killed in an auto accident, yet I drive with them in the car everyday. I think it is what they go through after they are abducted, and before they are murdered, that frightens parents so. I can't even imagine what the Mother is feeling right now.
I'm agnostic, but if there is a hell, I hope this guy burns for an eternity in it.

ONE THING IS SURE...ONE WOULD HAVE TO BE A WITNESS IN GOOD STANDING FOR ANYBODY TO LISTEN OR FOR CHANGES TO OCCUR.
And the irony lies in the fact that those that seek reform, and speak of it publicly, get the ax.

Adjusting underwear in public & other crap
by Leander inhave you ever been somewhere in public and without any warning what so ever your underwear decides to place you in a german suplex?
i was a victim this afternoon at lunch, i was in the middle of the cafeteria and i got so tangled up that even certain hairs were intertwined.
i felt like screaming, somehow i managed to ease my way to the washroom and straighten out matters.. i'm throwing out all my briefs when i get home.

You mean when my ass gets hungry and decides to eat my underwear?
Being the abyss that my ass is, this is a problem is one that is a constant source of aggravation to me.
Thongs only make it worse.
When hubby is around, I make him do the pullin....................of underwear................out.
Alone, it depends on how "high" things have gone.
When I want comfort, I go for the granny panties. Yeah, that's right. I will admit it. They seem to refrain from getting "sucked in" so quickly. However, I always make sure they remain in excellent condition. No worn out elastic in the waist, and a big hole in the center crack area, for me. I even have them in cute colors.
Ok...now I've done it. I have discussed my underwear on this board. My Mother would be so proud! At least she knows if I get into an accident I will have on .....well, I'm sure you guys know the rest.

Syn,
I understand you have a point of view that is, well, for the most part, unusual. You certainly have not offended me, and I don't think anyone else, in any way. To disagree is one thing, but to offend to quite another .
Since we cannot reverse the domestication of animals, let's not argue that anymore. Though my dogs did,(they are now deceased) and so did my horses, have some the instincts left over from their wild ancestors, they certainly could never fend for themselves.
So, how do we cope with the explosion of unwanted pets, AND since so many of us have animals as pets, make them more amiable to living with humans. Spaying and neutering has been one solution. Now, I have a hypothetical question for you. If a pill, or some sort of drug, could be developed that would solve both problems would that be acceptable to you? Granted, it would only be temporary and regular doses would have to be given, but results would be the same. The animal's behavior would be altered to be deemed more acceptable to humans. I know you don't think people should have animals as pets. But we do, so would this type of treatment be tolerable in your opinion?
I'm honestly curious as to your thoughts.

Blood Part 01 - The History of the Blood Doctrine
by JanH inthe history of the blood doctrine.
since a jehovah's witness (hereafter: jw) who refuses blood bases his or her decision on trust in the wisdom and divine leadership of the watch tower society (hereafter: wts), it will be instructive to look at the record of the wts in dealing with medical questions.
the current application of certain bible texts, notably acts 15:28,29, to support a blood prohibition for christians was not shared by its founder, charles taze russell.

Hi Out!
Yes, a sibling would be the first choice to locate a bone marrow match. However, there is only a 30 to 35 percent chance that siblings marrow will match "enough" for it to be harvested. Of course, an identical twin is the best potential donor. Plus, you are right, most likely, Mia's JW sibling would refuse to cooperate.
This is just one very tragic situation.

Hi Pat,
I was also struck my the same quote that belbab highlighted. It's so dead-on!
When I first read the scan of the Aug2002 KM my first thought was "Uh oh". My Mom has just recently been visiting with her JW sister after 20 years of almost no contact. Plus, there are other assorted JW relatives that we have had recent contact with after many years.
So, now, we are wondering, "What are they going to do? Are they going to adhere to the party line"? Though my Mom was never baptisted, she was shunned along with my other Aunt that was DF'd 37 years ago. At this point, we are just playing "wait and see". We went 20 years without them, we can certainly can do it again. Having a relationship with a JW is like standing on quicksand, the "ground" is not very stable.
BTW, good letter. Well stated.
