  I admit that a couple of scenarios of abiogenesis involve natural selection to some extent. e.g. selection for more reactive self-catalyzing RNA, or the selection for the quicker replicating clay templates. And with that mechanism being evoked , some ID proponents may mistakenly believe that evolution is also about explaining origins.

  But I'm sure you've been told this before, how Darwin himself in Origins wrote of the possibility that a Creator started off life with simple microbes and evolution took it from there. Abiogenesis then, can and is separate from the theory evolution.

  I'm for all intents and purposes a naturalist. But OldSoul's allegory does have a useful point. I believe that there's an external objective reality. (Although quantum mechanical weirdness does complicate things for me)

  Sometimes within science itself, there are a great deal of collected observations that are difficult to bring together and draw new information out. That is, until there is a new way of looking at it, a new paradigm that does just that. The reality hasn't changed, but science can now advance without that former limitation.

  Maybe those who have mystical experiences are genuinely able to interact with the reality in a way that others haven't. Or maybe its just all in their heads. Even for us non mystics, "reality" translates to the neurochemical impulses in our brains. I personally think there are prosaic causes for the events happening in their brains but how do you convince them that one set of neurochemical impulses reflect a genuine reality and others don't? Like OS wisely said, they also shouldn't expect us to be convinced either, unless we've had the experience ourselves.

  Watchtower Gives Up Explaining 607 BCE Date!

  this is a very important observation, that the watchtower has not tried to explain in print why 607 bce is the year for the destruction of jerusalem for the last 17 years!!!.

  all that the watchtower has done over most of the last two decades is to repeat over and over the year "607bce" in its publications as if it is an unquestioned fact!.

  the last time an explaination for the year was attempted by the watchtower was in 1988 when the "insight" volumes were published, but since then, no explaination for the validity of the year has appeared in print.. this must mean something, but what?

  Your theory that the period of temple obscurity ran from 587 to 537 is an interesting one but raises a few technical problems. Firstly, nowhere in the Bible is the this fact mentioned of fifty years in connection with the temple. Secondly, scholars do not agree that 587 is the starting point as the majority view 586 as the date. Thirdly, are you agreeing with celebrated WT scholars that 537 was the date for the Return of the Jews under Cyrus' decree?

  How is your third point a technical difficulty? Your second is funny. You use those other scholars to nitpick one year's difference with Jeffro, but then disregard those very same "spiteful scholars" when talking about a 20 year difference. And as for your second point, you're aware aren't you, that only an altar of hewn stone was set up in Jerusalem around 537? The first stone for the bulding was set shortly thereafter but work was halted and the temple wasn't finished till 516. Who needs the Bible to say 50 years? 70 will do just fine. 516 + 70.

  one of my favorite things to do with any wt publication, is to look for the "sin" pictures.

  they are always pretty funny, cartoony, and classic propaganda.

  the knowledge book had some but it seemed to be toned down from the standard study book that preceded it (i can't remember the name).

  Did anyone else with dialup have it cut out on them around the 2.5MB point? I've a few different times for the interview and the talkback with no luck.

  From the little I could get though, QUOTES was doing great. Good radio voice too. I didn't know that CT Russell's pyramidology was mentioned in Fads and Fallacies.

  I've been told that I look like a cross between Rick Moranis and Tobie Mcguire...in miniature. Ergo my need to get a cooler set of wheels. But wouldn't you know it, the lookers have the best rides too!

  When I was younger though, I got pegged as one of the vampire kids on Lost Souls. I could never see it, but I wouldn't have minded it.
