Having someone close to you whose Bi-Polar, wrecks your own psyche. Its a very fragmented relationship. Of course I always wish Mario has found some way to heal as much as possible. I also hope the eldest daughter gets wonderful healthy support from others. She's still very much in the centre of all of this it appears.

Remember in 2004, Utopian Reformist lost his daughter to a fire?
by hubert inon projo.com there's an update on utopian reformists' (mario)'s ex-wife, who was declared mentally insane and committed to a mental facility as she was unfit to stand trial by reason of insanity.
she had set fire to her home, and tried to kill her two daughters in that fire, succeeding in one being lost.. i will try to put the link or page in this post.
if not, perhaps someone who is better at this than i am, could post the link for the older members to see, who knew of this story.

any other nerds like me who miss the old hardware?.
or does anyone miss anything from their younger days (not necessarily computers)?.

My curiosity wasn't really stoked by the Apple IIe and the PET that we had in school (just those 2 for the whole school!) but I got hooked by my first computer system. I had the light beige and slimmer commodore C64c and then quickly added on the 1541ii floppy disk drive.
But that was a gate way drug to my harder addiction...the commodore Amiga. I had the 1000, the 500 and also a decently expanded 3000.
I've gotten nostalgic alot of times but the asking prices for a good condition 4000 are too ludicrously high. It's cheaper to get a mac.

Evolution, Yes : Darwin, No

this is exactly where research needs to go - it sounds like lamarck reborn!
australia proves that evolution happened but not how it happened!.

I'd like to see if there's more experimental evidence for epigenetics thats for sure. Epigenetics may be an additional new mode of change above and beyond the neo-darwinian one that we all know if. I've come across that generational study on one relatively isolated group and their obesity vs other surrounding populations. Curious.
However the classic experiments on bacteria and antibitoic resistance is rock solid that the mutations come first in that case anyway. Which is why I feel the standard neodarwinian model is still the main and basic mean of change.

Horizontal Gene Transfer: especially in the earliest stages of life in the microbial world
Epigenetics: I have to admit that this phenomenon could in a sense roughly validate Lamark's view. This wasnt the model of genetics I learned as an undergrad but fascinating.

I've enjoyed reading the thoughts of so many bright intellects on this board over the years. Most of them are very respectful of other posters and are also very humble. So in sincere respect of that, I won't mention the encyclopic, philosophical, and witty minds I'm particularly fond of. <----- The ones I'm thinking of have already been named though with the exception of one from some time back.

canada's "zone visit"
by agent zero in...the whole of canada hooked up by phone.. no big announcement that it was all a scam, no cancellation of the field service arrangement, just a praise of the new printing press and some regular drab.
what a waste of my saturday evening..

Hoser,
I concur. Nothing like that happened at all in the congregations here in my city (located in the Golden Horseshoe, Ontario, Canada). Also some jws from nearby cities who'll still ackowledge me, didnt mention such an event. Wouldn't that have been so encouraging?
Last week, the congregation I'm stuck in had a visiting Bethel speaker on the Saturday night, who according to my dub father, gave a little talk that mostly covered the changes at the branch including the new presses and all the work thats going into that. Definitely not anything from the Zone Overseer though.

Here in Canada, charities like the WTS have to declare all their income and expenses, including giving a statement of cash flow. Its blatant how alot of the after expenses money contributed to the Canadian branches gets sent to other branches (primarily the US).
Couldn't one check if the American WTS has to do the same thing? If they are using trusts etc., it could give solid leads.

But I mean actual cash. Money collected from all those contribution boxes. Can they get that money out of the country and deposited to thoise off-shore accounts so that it never appears on their books?
If a cheque is made out to you it has to go to a bank. Hmmmm could they be depositing all those cheques directly to the off-shore accounts therefore having it never appear on their own books?
I don't think it would be all that easy. It would require alot of collusion. Just at the KH level there are 2 people required to collect the money and all of it is noted on receipts (with separate copies that have to be given to the secretary), and those receipts get double-checked when the accounts are auditted. At conventions, there are also more people at hand when the cardboard boxes are emptied and the people are counting up the amount and also noting then on account sheets. I think the IBCs and trusts are the more likely and legit way of funneling money.

WTS was the first on the scene after the Haiti earthquake
by bohm inhey!.
the following story is apparently circulating in several south-american bethel-branches: after the earthquake in haiti, the wts was the first provide help in the form of 18 doctors who was transported in by air.
this clearly show how well the organization work bla bla bla.. im curious if anyone else here has heard this story, or have information about how effective the wts helping work really was..

The CO repeated this very same claim in his recent visit. Its just sickening to hear this self-agrandizement. You can be sure any team that was sent in was primarily there to assess the damage to their bethel facility and then to the slaves/workers and finally to the rest of the publishers.

Even if you did tell me whats in the Toasted Posties, I'd probably still eat them. I'm a sucker for references to evolutionary missing links.
Besides, I swallowed some of the reconstituted bran from the WatchTower for a brief time, so Mikey would eat anything.
P.S. Gotta head off for now. A very good night to you Leo and to the rest.
