*** w02 12/15 p. 15 "He Will Draw Close to You" *** 10 How, though, does Jehovah guard his people? His promise of protection does not guarantee us a problem-free life in this system; nor does it mean that he is obligated to work miracles in our behalf. Nevertheless, Jehovah does provide physical protection for his people as a group. After all, he would never allow the Devil to efface true worshipers from the earth! (2 Peter 2:9) Above all, Jehovah protects us spiritually. He equips us with what we need to endure trials and to safeguard our relationship with him. In the long run, spiritual protection is the most important kind of protection. Why? As long as we have our relationship with Jehovah, nothing—not even death—can do us lasting harm.—Matthew 10:28.

EYEWITNESS CLAIMS, DAN.
How are you going to falsify this type of evidence? You can't test it because it happened 2000 years ago. That does not make the evidence any LESS VALID.Believe me Rex when I say that I'd really like for the Resurrection to have happened. But we have incompatible accounts, with different gospels mentioning different witnesses as the first to see the risen Christ, which unfortunately marrs their accuracy and the stock one can take in them.

I wouldn't make all that much of this. The WTS opened up a branch in India back in December 2003. It had its own water purification plant, wastewater treatment-recycling plant and its own electric-power generation. The building was the first time the WTS used a commercial firm for constructing such a large branch. This took mega $$$$$. I can't find the source (maybe someone more adept can?), but there were Indian ministry documents which showed that the WT was among BOTH the largest receivers and donours. The numbers between the two were fairly close. You can figure out the likely cash flow. Mommy -------> Indian branch.

I never did despite all those years growing up in the dubs. Even when I impelled myself to get out of my apathetic mood and dove in "whole souled" with the whole baptism, study, field service regimen (for a few solid months anyways ) I got silence and void. I won't blame the dubs for it though because I also had the opportunity to experience Roman Catholicism for all those same years, and it didn't do much for it either. I guess I'm not as adept to interact with concepts or symbols and am limited by my disposition for the concrete.
Not that I'm entirely agreeing with JamesThomas, but I'll admit that only when I wasn't trying to perceive through the JW or RC filters and images, and wasn't even really thinking about god, did I momentarily experience something that made me wonder whether there was a brief connection. Was it only a surfacing of the subconscious though? So I still find myself with nadda.

Are the gospels genuine?
by ackack ini've been reading the jesus puzzle and something interesting was this re-ordering of q. its seems like the various pieces of q in luke and matthew have different contexts.
this would support that the contexts for the q sayings were invented.. it seems that paul doesn't reference the gospels in any form.. does this support a late writing for the gospels and therefore calls into question how close the gospels were written to the alleged events of jesus' life?.
how would someone who believes in the gospels reconcile these differences?

Remember that the LXX tradition represented a text minus a sigificant portion of the MT database, sort of an ancient reader's digest version. I have no doubt such a database was cheaper to produce I am sure that made it attractive.
Not relevant to the discussion I know, but I don't think thats generally the case. I know that Jeremiah in the LXX is shorter, but I also know that there were additions made to Daniel and to Esther. Later copies of the LXX also had several books that weren't included in the MT.
You mentioned earlier, Matt. contains something on the order of 90% of the material that Mark does. It that really proof that Mark cam first? What would prevent Mark from lifting his material from an earlier written Matt.? Nothing at all!
On topic though, Leolaia mentioned a slew of details that make more sense assuming the priority of Mark. Recheck them like: Why would Mark have left out the birth stories and some of the resurrection sightings but include that odd bit about a young guy running off buck naked? Smart editing?

Why do so many people NEED to believe in a greater purpose?
by gringojj ini am an atheist.
i believe that this is the only life we have, there is nothing more.
i have no greater purpose.

Maybe the "need to believe in a greater purpose" is a byproduct spawned by the interplay of different facets of our psychology. I'm thinking about 1) our own increasing self-awareness as a species and of our condition 2) our relatively high creativity and intelligence and 3) as social animals the pragmatic emotive and behavioural thought patterns that move us (most of us anyway, I'm an apathetic bastard) to consider others. #1 has made many come to the conclusion that our only evident purpose and function is to be mere replication machines, acting as vehicles for genes, with the genes running the show. A kind of nihilism would likely set in with that outlook. But at the same time a chimera of #2 and #3 could be antagonistic to #1, pushing the person to think not only about self, and creatively coming up with a nobler "purpose". Maybe even self-awareness of one's potential to shape their world works along with #2 + #3 feeding the drive to accomplish even more.

- Life is Beautiful (the ending when the kid says "Ho Vinto! Ho Vinto!")
- Schindler's List (a few spots, seeing the red dress on the cart hit hard)
I can't say I've seen that many films that induce crying though. I usually watch comedies, action and sci-fi flicks.

9/11 left me gobbsmacked when I first heard it (and gave me a new focus for paranoia), but what left me with a deeply etched impression of the savageness some people are capable of was what happened in Gr.12 at my catholic highschool. A genuinely nice classmate was raped inside the school's bathroom by a brute in Gr.10. It crushed her. It made the rest of us sick just realizing that such a cold pervert was once among us and very sad to see the emotional pain she was in. Made us really want for castration to be legalized.

Our plans to move to Niagara are now finalized.
by kwintestal inwell, in 3 weeks, we'll be there.
we're going to go so we'll be with mrs kwin's (heart2heart) family for christmas.
between x-mas and new years, i'll be bringing all our stuff from ns to on.

Hey Kwin,
Some specialists can really speed things up. We're always hearing about these long line ups for MRIs (a couple of months or so). Well, I only had to wait a little over 3 weeks for an MRI on my hips. The specialist was Dr.Singhe. He specializes in bones and joint articulations. Maybe we can meet up some time in the new year after you're settled in and everything.

Mention of Jehovah's Witnesses in popular entertainment
by enderby ini don't know if this thread has been done before, but can anybody think of times that jehovah's witnesses were made mention of or joked about in music, tv, or movies?
for example, there are a couple of simpsons episodes, one were marge alludes to being so desperate for company that jehovah's witnesses ran away when she went to get them more lemonade.
another time, two jw's approach the simpsons' house and one turns to the other just before ringing the doorbell and asks "ruby, do you ever think we should get real jobs?".

I remembered a good deal of those already mentioned and I'll show some of my crassness and utter lack of taste with another that was on "Married with Children". Things were terrible as usual for Al Bundy, and when the doorbell rang he got up off the sofa, picked up a baseball bat and heading to the door said "I hope thats a Jehovah's Witness".
