well it's thanksgiving today.. yes today is the day families get together and enjoy the company of those we love.. if you are an apostate as we are....this isn't the case.
today our witness families and friends will be getting together and eating a big turkey dinner also....they always do.
are you sad today of the reminder that this religion has broke this relationship?
We don't have Thanks Giving...it sounds like fun. I wish you all a happy thanks giving holiday...tis just another ordinary working day here for us in Aus

i choose kelpie because that is my partner's nickname for me as my initials are klp.
My favourite username on this forum is...drum roll....PopeofEruke....I like Bob Dylan at the best of times. Not only is the name unique, but it identifies the user's taste in music and creative thinking.
As for mine, well its kinda dull but no one says 'so where do you live??' or 'what's your name?' LOL

it's a balancing act.
it is impossible to please everyone all the time and i don't go out of my way to try to please anyone ... i just do what i think is right.. some good examples are controversial topics: if i lock or delete something that is controversial then i am accused of "stiffling free speech".
Awww Simon....I get real sad when I see people slamming you when you're only trying to make this place nice for EVERYONE.
Whatever is said, don't let it rob you of your values Simon. You maintain a moderated climate here, and we all have the choice to stay or go. Some may choose to stay but ignore your requests, if that means they are deactivated, then that's the way the cookie crumbles.
The very ones who whine and carry on about their freedom of speech rights are the very ones who have the least respect for others. I have no problem with Jim, I've always liked him...but I do not think the material he posted was appropriate nor do I think your warnings should have been ignored.
Keep up the good work...and I do not think the suggestion to vote was a good one....we do not hold shareholder's rights...we are here as guests...therefore, showing the administration a little bit of respect would go a long way.

if the jehovah witnesses are really the one and only true religion, and we did quit, then i agree that we are apostates.
but since we seem to all agree that they made wrong prophesies, and changed so often the meaning of the bible, why then do we call ourselves apostates?
if we quit a religion that didn't have the truth, then why are we so hard on ourselves?

You would have to be a believer (which I am not any longer) to consider yourself an apostate. When I first left the troof, I made an effort to steer clear of anything remotely close to apostasy...that's because I still believed.
Now that I don't believe...thanks to some help from this board and Ray Franz, I no longer regard myself as an Apostate.
I had a conversation with an inactive dub a few weeks ago, and he said that he found my new found beliefs disturbing..."bordering apostasy" as he put it. I then explained to him that the WT's defnition does not apply to me, since I do not follow their teachings any longer and I disassociated myself from the organisation. However, if he is still a believer of the WT, then I am NOT borderline, I'm "all the way baby".

I agree. I had my jw sister visiting last weekend and while checking her icq and mail, I put the board up and decided to check what was happening. She had a look at some of the topics and wanted to see everyone's pictures, she eventually started reading some of the threads and had a wee chuckle to herself over some of the comments. But overall, her standoffish attitude relaxed and she found it wasn't as bad as she'd expected an "apostate" board to be like.
There are other ex-jw discussion boards out there, but this is the only one that I feel comfortable enough to show my sister. Not only is the climate here moderated, but the administrators keep it that way. Its a progressive and gentle way to introduce JW lurkers to the truth about the troof.

Glad to hear you had a fun night out with hubby and made some new friends. So you guys play a bit of pool do you?? Are you a shark?? We'll have to have you guys over for a tournament, a few drinks and some food LOL...if only!!! My kids would love your kids....I could see my 12 year old daughter and step daughter playing dress ups with your daughter and my son on the PS2 with your sons....and when no one was looking, my 12 year olds would be making eyes at your eldest LOL.

i use my mum to tell all my problems to.
i'll phone her, write her, haunt her down if i want to get anything of my chest.
I rant on and on to my siblings on a daily basis by email. Best therapy in the world.

about 15 years ago when i started attending meetings, i noticed that people arrived about 20 to 40 minutes before the meetings started, just to talk and socialize.
also they used to leave about 30 minutes after the meeting.
so when you add that up, the meeting wasn't 2 hours but 3 hours.

I grew up in the days when everyone arrived early and left late...I used to hate it. Sometimes after the meeting I would sit in the car and wait until my mother finished yapping and would take us home to bed. I don't agree with the way families have their kids out at night, week after week.
I also remember when assemblies used to go until 9pm at night...what a drag.
I have no idea what it is like now...and thats the way I like it

ps...you forgot to count the hour it took to get ready...what a pain in the ass meetings were!! I'm glad to be rid of them.
