New light re: talking to DF'd persons

i was df'd in 1985 and have not been back since.

of course disowned by my family.

at that time they rarely called or came over because i had small children and they called just enough to semi maintain a relationship with them.

I'm pretty sure that if there were 'new light' on the subject we would all know about it.

I think most JW's nowadays are somehow related to someone who has been DF'd or DA'd. I know quite a lot of so-called 'staunch' JW's who now have DF'd teens or grown kids, including elders, PO's, CO's etc. The reactions to the DF'd ones vary. Some still visit their DF'd relatives regularly, babysit their grandchildren etc and are totally involved. Other's completely shun them and constantly pray that they will one day return - they wait for this moment before they can enjoy contact once again. So sad.

when you were a dud (i call it 'dud' not dub..lol), ok how can i put this.....were you 'always on'?

meaning did you always have something to give to people or witness to them at 'every' opportunity or did you look at it as a 'job' where you only gave things out in service?

I didn't enjoy any type of witnessing, informal or otherwise. I used to feel like a sales person of the worst kind - the ones that don't go away and won't listen to reason and who think they have the best product.

Apparently it was because I was lacking faith - whatever!!!

I'm 61 and I was raised by Witnesses. One thing I notice the old fossils (who told me they would never die) have in common . . . they are mostly all dead.

I've personally seen old Jehovah's Witnesses have a very bad elderly life due to isolation from fractured families, poverty from not preparing for old age, and loneliness from being neglected by younger productive Witnesses.

Jehovah's Witnesses is an inverted system where 20 year olds are "elders", 75 year olds are treated like adolescents, mothers are called "sisters", and children are hit if they laugh.

Geez Garybus, I really liked your post. I found myself nodding as I read it - funny that when someone says something that just sums up your very own thoughts.

My poor mum - She's off to clarify things with the elders

last night my parents came around for dinner.

mum is a jw, dad is not.

things were going fine everyone was getting along nicely.. mum happened to mention some people she knew who want to go to gilead.

Well done misspeaches - interesting response from your mum 'they are simplifying things' - I'm so over them saying that about EVERYTHING they are forced to change.

I love it that your mum was comfortable enough to seek more information from her elders - its almost as though she is curious to know why there's stuff you know and she doesn't.

WHY did you exit god and the bible when you exited the dubs?

not all that post here threw the bible and the bible god out the window when they exited the dubs, but many have.. for me personally, i never doubted god or the bibles authenticity untill years later when i began doing a re-search on the bible canon and how it was formed.

from there, i began looking at the sceptics view of the bible and it's god which then changed my views.. i guess my question is, why did you ( those who disbelieved god/bible upon exiting the dubs)... throw god and the bible out the window before you had re-searched it enough to make you believe contrary?

if all you really knew was that the wtbts was bunk, what made you feel the bible and it's god was bunk too?.

I think because I was born into it, I'd had a gut full of bible reading, god, jesus etc etc by the time I left. Which is probably why I have no interest in any of it now. For a long time I still had to come to terms with worldliness and find the best way to measure what really is wicked and what is simply just normal ordinarly day to day living.

To be honest I felt robbed and cheated when I discovered the truth about the truth. So I'm not really in any hurry to embrace the good lord at the moment - maybe one day.

Those with children, do you want your children to be sexually active?

i know that we all felt the witnesses were to over the top on their restriction on sex, but do we want our children to be sexually active the way we wanted to be?

for example, should they have sex in high school with their girl/boy friends?

should they not be committed to anyway, and just have sex with whoever feels good at the moment, or better yet, who ever is willing?

That was a tough one when my kids were younger (a whole 3 years ago LOL). You don't need the JW mind-set to find the right and best way to deal with this when your teens reach that age.

Personally, I allowed my daughter to go on the pill at 17, she'd been in a relationship for a year, and we did the mum / daughter chat thing. She was comfortable enough (and still is) to talk to me freely about it. She is still in the same relationship (now 20 yrs old) and she has no real hang ups about sex. My only dilemma is that because he (her boyfriend) stays with us (a lot), they may NEVER move out

September in NZ is lovely, a bit too cool for my liking though. Very floral and green. Great sight seeing expeditions, ie. Milford Sounds, South Island. You could go bungi jumping in Taupo and visit Huka Falls; try a traditional Hangi cooked in the ground or experience the thermal hot pools on a cool evening in Rotorua. You could go skiing in Queenstown or just enjoy the view of the wintery slopes. The south island is very scenic and refreshing. The north island is rich with culture and history. Both are equally exciting - in my opinion. But the notion of it being a hot tropical island - no way.

September in Aus varies so it would depend on where you went. Victoria isn't so hot in September, in fact we still get cold windy breezes in Melbourne that time of year. Jan / Feb are probably our hottest months. I would be inclined to head towards Queensland in September, there's so much to do there and the weather would be great that time of year.

Anyhoo, whatever you choose, have a great one.
