apparently being liberal does not lead to an economic power house, but it does lead to a lot of hatred of the united states in these countries.
I don't think that the US has always been as liberal as it is now. It's come as the "Religious Right" has taken over the country. They scare me.
A question though, do most Europeans lump Canada in with our conservative neighbour? I would personally say we are closer to Europeans politically then the US, but their influence is growing.

I've met a few over the years.
I was working at an airport, our plane was about to land and we were waiting for it to taxi in when a helicopter flew in and landed right where we set everything up. I ran up to it to find out when it was going to leave and ended up face-to-face with it's pilot ... Harrison Ford. He was in Halifax for the filming of K-19, the WidowMaker.
I placed a special tract with Owen Nolan, then playing for the San Jose Sharks, but was home for the summer. He was a very nice guy.
I used to deliver to Mel Gibson's house on occasion when I worked for FedEx, but never met him.

I thought it odd that the scientist who set off the bomb is a very popular Canadian comedian named Shaun Majumder (sp?). An Indian born and raised in Newfoundland ... odd combination. It's funny seeing someone in a character that you wouldn't normally see them in.

I would recommend The Bible Unearthed (link to Amazon.com) regarding the history of the bible and it's origin. It provided accurate archeogical proof that the bible account (OT) was written in the 8th and 7th centuries BC. If you read this book, you will not believe the bible (OT) was written by Moses, David and Solomon when you are done.
Very easy to understand non-technical discussion regarding the subject too.
I've read "The God Delusion" (just finished this afternoon) and it was very good too.

this may get a lil dizzying...do j.w.s love truth or are they merely satisfied that they have the truth?
as we know the witnesses describe their form of worship as the truth.
this implies that they are right and all others are wrong, with out them having to put it in those exact words.
I think that everyone has their own version of what is "truth". For some people it is fixed to their own ideals, for others (read JW's) it's fixed on the ideals of old men in Brooklyn. These old men tickle their ears with "truths" about living forever and "back it up with scripture"; bit and pieces yes, but the bible says it! Until that truth is proven to be untruth, they will follow and obey, and after ... some will still follow and obey and make excuses, others will end up here. So truth in a nut-shell ... all perception and convenience.
