Absolutely the doc wouldn't tell. However the poor JW would probably feel bad about adding lying to his list of sins. The elders ask, "Did you accept a blood transfusion?" and what's he going to say?

ok last night while sobering up from a long day of drinking i started thinking; could doctor/patient confidentiality protect one from being dissfellowshipped?
that is, could one tell a doctor he wants a b.t., but must keep it secret.
the doctor would have a right to keep the procedure from the family or any other interested parties.

in addition to the noah's ark nonsense, this idea of praying for others was one that led me away from the bible.
here's how it plays out, in my opinion:.
bob has a problem.. jerry prays about that problem on behalf of bob.. god either:.
Your line of thinking remind me of Frances Farmer's Letter "God dies"
I'd never read it before. Thank you for pointing it out to me: http://www.historylink.org/essays/output.cfm?file_id=4008
Very interesting read.

has anyone else seen this book?
i'm half-tempted to order it.
the author claims to be a presiding overseer, and claims to have lost his son to suicide after the son was df'd.
I own a copy of that "publisher to elder" book -- it IS pretty funny. It's hard to tell if it was written from a "if you're going to be a JW, you might as well be a prominent one" standpoint, or if it was more of a "Look, if THIS would make you an elder -- and you KNOW it would -- doesn't that tell you something's wrong?" standpoint. Either way, it's fun stuff.

In addition to the Noah's Ark nonsense, this idea of praying for others was one that led me away from the Bible. Here's how it plays out, in my opinion:
Bob has a problem.
Jerry prays about that problem on behalf of Bob.
God either:
1) helps Bob due to Jerry's prayer.
2) helps Bob regardless of Jerry's prayer.
3) ignores Bob.
If it's #2 or #3, then Jerry's prayer was worthless. The Bible encourages Jerry to do this, though, so it makes sense that the expectation is #1.
But #1 is the worst one. #1 says that God was aware of the problem (he knows everything), he was ABLE to help, but he CHOSE NOT TO help until Jerry spoke up. Even worse, the Bible indicates that at times God will withhold assistance until many people pray about it.
So, getting assistance from God is sort of a popularity contest? And not popular with God, but popular with everyone else?
If you are one that prays for others and feel that I've missed the point here (entirely possible) please explain it to me. I've never heard an explanation on this one that made any sense.

well, i went this weekend and there were a few key points that i thought were pretty interesting.
one thing is that we are not to use the word 'society' any longer.
i don't know if anybody else has heard of this before but i wondered what the reason was behind it.
"BROTHERS!!! YOU ARE NOT LISTENING, MANY OF YOU ARE REBELIOUS!"
Wow, what an ass.
this morning, a poster asked me why i still go on field service:.
just wondering if your conscience bothers you that you are continuing to "spread the jw gospel"?
do you have plans to stop fs soon?
Try not to get too many strangers hooked and baptized, but other than that, who cares what people not in your shoes say.
Agreed. It couldn't be too hard to do the ministry poorly, and done well it hardly ever works.
You need to do whatever you need to do, and if someone wants to call you a hypocrite for it, they are entitled to their [stupid, wrong, ignorant] opinion.

"Anthony Crispin had a fine, spiritually active son. He pioneered right out of high school, served at Bethel, married and had two children. Then his son was disfellowshipped because of an immoral indiscretion that occurred before his marriage. His son was shunned by the people he had known and loved all of his. Seventeen months after he was disfellowshipped he committed suicide. He could not take the consequences of being disfellowshipped and he lost hope. Brother Crispin has dedicated this book to all disfellowshipped ones and explains to them exactly how to regain speedy entrance once more into Jehovah's organization."

i need the link to the online image, assuming it still exists, of the actual no blood card the watchtower society prepared for distribution early this decade that contained specific wording that the bearer refuses transfusions that are not autologous.
some will recall that these were ordered discarded due to a claimed "misprint" and publishers were instructed to continue carrying the card they'd signed the previous january.. an image of the card itself was posted online.
i both printed a hard copy and saved the digital image on a long-ago hard drive, however, the circumstance that causes my need for it now is such that i'm hoping not to have to spend time locating one or the other.. briefly, my spouse of 32 years continues to follow wts dictates despite ever-waning belief in their arrogated authority, self-important claims, flickering strobe "new" light and patently false prophecies.
Good luck indeed! You might also check out the info at http://www.ajwrb.org/. That's the "Associated Jehovah's Witnesses for Reform on Blood".
